There is clearly a bug in the effects library somewhere that causes these massive fps drops.

I thank this community for trying to fix it. It's awesome the support here.

Meanwhile I have been editing and touching settings since the latest patch and not have been playing at all. Just because I cannot stand the fps slideshows on impacts, or even when there is action in the distance. I used to have perfectly smooth flight in 1.2.2, now it is not. It's unplayable for me or very below fps standards.

I also feel a bit sorry for those that bought while the sale was on, and are now completely surprised by the massive fps drop on just firing the gun with the stang for example.

Why don't we have a rescue patch yet? (Back to 1.2.2 regarding effects like trail, smoke, explosions. But keep the other fixes from 1.2.3).

I really don't think that is the most difficult thing to do, before analyzing and fixing the bugged effects patch. Wich takes time, while the fps playability is below standards for most simmers I think.

I'm a bit dissapointed if we just wait month after month, patch to patch with playability issues. A swift (take out the error) patch is the least thing we could expect or not?

I guess we are close to the next patch, but I had respond to the current state of DCS.

Thank you for reading.

Cut the crap and give us some FPS so at least it's playable without going into single digits FPS everytime. No matter how many bugs are solved, it's all useless if you can't play it like you should. Since World went live all i do is flying around a bit, preferably all alone, not shooting to much, not blowing things up to much just to prevent it becoming a slide show when things matter. I don't need UH-1's, Mig-21's, all the F-number airplanes since i won't be able to enjoy them anyway. And no, i won't buy another computer... nor will i edit .lau files to get me an extra FPS or 2. That's not how a game should be threathed to make it playable. BTW, i bought everything from DCS until now but if FPS don't go up, i keep my wallet closed. Period!!

It realy is time guys, fix this, if your games were entirely free i would let this slip.... but i payed 100's of bucks, do something!

+1 frames being cut by 20 or so for 0.2 to 1 seconds ... specially on free flight servers were there is crashing and ammo being fired.

Alright, I'm going to go ahead and vent a bit too.

I just do not understand what ED is up to as of late. DCS World is a great idea... There is absolutely no point in having 6 different installs for 6 different aircraft.

But FPS issues are getting worse and worse. It's getting to the point that 5000 dollar gaming rigs are being brought to a standstill by buggy effects and poor coding. Oddly, FPS issues should be getting BETTER with time... Not significantly worse.

I feel as if ED should concentrate on actually optimizing DCS instead of releasing buggy new modules. A new terrain engine is going to be nice... Multi-core support is a MUST. It is no longer the mid-90's... Nearly every game and application uses multi-cores.

I almost wish ED would scrap the engine all together and just start anew before we get new modules and such.

Sorry, I just grow frustrated when my machine can run EVERY other gaming application that has come out in the past year on ultra... Yet I struggle to maintain 30 FPS in crowded battlefields. I understand that it's a simulation and a lot is going on... But when I look at my task manager and I see one core screaming at 100%, my graphics card cool, and my other cores are lingering around 10 - 15% I become very frustrated. ED demands 40 to 50 dollars a module (Unless they are on special), so I almost feel as if I should demand a 40 - 50 dollar game in terms of optimization.

ED, God bless you for doing what you do. You are the last developer to stand and make realistic simulations of modern aircraft. I don't want to see you go anywhere... And I want to see you be successful. But part of your future success is going to require your simulations to be accessible to casual players who buy the game. A first time buyer who thinks the A-10 is cool, puts their time in to read a bit and do the tutorials... Then finally starts the first mission in Georgian Hammer only to see their FPS hit 10-20 will grow frustrated and not buy another module from you guys.

I care about your success and future... Sometimes I feel like you guys walk down the wrong path to try to reach that success though.

It would be nice to get a direct comment on what engine optimizations have been done since the migration to DCS world, and how long the current engine will last if we keep throwing more modules at it.

As for the other problem, laggy effects. Quite frankly, I don't understand how these effects pass QA, in fact I also don't understand how the current state of BVR passed QA. Some of these effects issues have been around awhile too, like the lag associated with a cluster bomb.

"Tusk 21 in with CBU shape. Be advised all look in the other direction for 20 seconds."

Stupid right?

Regardless of the facts, I as the consumer feel this way. I didn't want to have to wait 3 months for network stability and I don't want to wait another 3 months for aircraft crash lag, especially since they are a common occurrence with mario kart (FC3) fighters around, and various other laggy effects to be fixed.

Sigh...

I'm onboard with you guys. Look at the bright side though- some of the tester team in here spend countless (I mean COUNTLESS) hours in here trying to help people out with their different problems, while other committed members of the community do their best to help us make ends meet in the interim.

The worst issue I'd had since the latest patch was, like many of you, the smoke problem. I think we got that solved in the SOS thread and while it means very short duration smoke- it helps bring the game back to being playable. It's worth checking out and Rider1 did all the work for you. Download his modded smoke files, backup your own and voila... better playing experience.

I keep thinking that it would be nice to get a little more dev feedback in some of these threads- but then I realize the more time they spend in here helping us with the interim problems, the less time they can spend actually FIXING them.

Keep the faith boys... be patient...

I've got 2 pages of crash logs in a month from my full time server and each time it's a chore to get things rolling again, submit error reports, it's hard on the guys who play in the server regularly because they (like you) have to start from scratch every time... is it my rig? Is it a game problem? Is it a mission problem? I have no clue... but each time I have to check out all 3. P1sses me off no end- and I'm with you guys 100%

But... just gotta breathe and plug away at it.

A confused newbie...

Aghhh, I thought the issue with my poor FPS with DCS was with my relatively average PC gear... i.e. down to 8 FPS in some sections esp with the P51 prop running on a high 'G' turn... I also get screen 'atrifacts' as well in that situation; I have spent some time playing with the GFX settings in DCS and modded the graphics.gfx to limit to 40 FPS :( On other games I don't have a GFX problem! I also use iRacing... a race car sim, and get in access of 80FPS with some very fast 3D sceneary shifting, so whats going on here with DCS... do we have a corrupted GFX engine? Shame as the sim is outstanding apart from the graphics/FPS side. I ask myself if spending a $1000 on a PC upgrade will fix the problem?

+1 on fixing this issue, thank god I stumble in this topic cause I was thinking in upgrating a new GC, just to know more plp have this issue and Im not alone.

I dont whant more modules if I cant use them correctly ofcaurese I whont buy none more.

We are getting EDGE sometime in the future and that should improve FPS a lot.

It would be way too costly and take too much time to redo the engine for every single thing they have. I agree with you on the other points, it is a bit ridiculous to be able to play the latest games at ultra settings and to have a slideshow with DCS.

Based on what fact? Have you seen perform EDGE? It's not because it will look better that it will perform better. My experience over the past 25 years learns that when it looks better (read new engine with extra eye-candy), you pay cash in performance on the same equipement.

I get slow down when / if

CBU / mlrs is going off

ground effect is in place

at certain airfields / objects

It seems its a case of optimisation being carried out, and I am not sure it will be a priority with edge coming out in the future, why would they waste resources on something that is going to change anyway? I fear we may have to put up with it until then.

Just going to add my 2cents

In running the virtual aerobatics server I have noticed a significant reduction in crashes since 1.2.3 came around. There was also a couple of issues with resource management which have been fixed as well. The problems are not gone though as we do suffer the odd crash, maybe 2-3 times a week now vs 3-4 a day.

I have a 3770K @ 5ghz with 16gb of ram, a pair of GTX670's in SLI and 2x SSD's in raid 0 and I still get a 20fps dip when I go near that new smoke.

My fps with everything maxed inc AA is normally 55-60 then I see smoke and I am down to mid 20's or something. The code is poorly optimised.

Regards

+1. I also think there should be optimisation or atleast an option in the setting for building detail, amount. The buildings near airfields and large town seems to make FPS dip the 20's or even more. I can get around 50+ fps when not looking at towns and some airfields and then as they come into view it decreases my fps to about 20. I do think its about time these fps bugs do get fixed/addressed or acknowledged by the devs. Thanks.

The reason for FPS dips around airfields, certain areas and some citys, are due to poorly optimized 3d models.

Each 3d model consists of multiple objects. When the number of objects increase in a scenery it put's a big load on your CPU.

If you use the modelviewer you can check each 3d model for it's number of objects and triangles.

Now, this is the strange part. If you look at some buildings like a huge terminal it only has 2 objects. If you look at a small crane, it has over 40!!

Same with some units, a m1a2 has 4 or so objects. While a buk radar has over 30. The m1a2 looks a lot better then the buk, but the buk radar is what kills the cpu if you put to many of them on the map.

I made a thread about the objects issues a while back ago.

Have a read if your interested: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491

It's too much work to optimize this old engine, our only hope is EDGE.

Don't expect true optimization before that, just workaround :)
