Since today the forum loads a JavaScript snowstorm-min.js which produces some snowflake effect on the whole web page.

This is a f*****g bad idea, tbh. With several forum tabs open this LAGS THE HELL OUT OF my Firefox. One core at 100% and I can barely type this.:(

If it is not only me, cought some dumb malware, I strongly advice to restrain from placing such silly gimmicks on the website...

I just came on to this forum issues section to see if there was anything about the snowstorm. Just reading this without anything else open is running my laptop at 80%. I was just wondering why the fan is so loud just to be on the forum.

Edit: Snowstorm gone, I now have Christmas lights which are not working the CPU as hard.

Oh dear, so get a script blocking plugin (like NoScript). You shouldn't allow every Tom, Dick and Harry to run scripts in your browser anyway.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Exactly, I block 90% scripts in NoScript (I allow only essential ones) and 99% ads via Adblock. Easy and effective.

Additionally one should manage what sites are allowed to save cookies and you need to manage how long cookies are to remain on your system. I use CS lite mod, e.g.

Yep, for cookies I use CookieMonster and by default I deny all of them except few sites I visit regularly. From time to time I delete and renew when visiting page again.

Please ditch the Christmas lights up top? I had the volume up and nearly popped a coronary. Got my Agent Orange all acting up. Thanks and happy new year!

Add this URL as a custom filter into AdBlock and the lights will be gone :

I enjoyed the smashy light bulbs, but actually it might have been best to bring them down yesterday in order to avoid Goblin attack. (Yup...Goblin attack!)

I was reading up on the whole "bad luck to leave decorations up after the 12th night" thing and found that the 5th is generally considered to be the day to leave it no later than. All is not lost though. If you still have em up on the 6th, then the thing to do apparently is to leave them up until Feb 2nd. Beware though, if so much as a mince pie crumb is left after that date, there's a risk of Goblins pouring in through your keyhole, turning your milk sour, craking your cups and plates, leaving Gobliny footprints in your butter and you know...generally being utter cads!

Nobody likes to see that right?

Depends which calendar you are working from :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Russia

New Year holiday

In addition to New Year's Day (Новый год Novy god) on 1 January, 2–5 January are public holidays as well,[1][2] called New Year holiday (Новогодние каникулы Novogodniye kanikuly). The holiday includes January 6th and 8th, with Christmas being January 7th, declared as non-working days by law. Until 2005, only 1 and 2 January were public holidays.[3]

Christmas day

Christmas Day (Рождество Христово Rozhdestvo Khristovo) is observed, on 7 January, as a public holiday according to the Julian calendar used by the Russian Orthodox Church.

I think it's funny.

However, it did make it harder to check the forums at work as I got the occasional odd glance from nearby coworkers when I accidentally brushed the mouse pointer against bulbs... :D

(yeah, I know ... mute the sound ... and get back to work ... :music_whistling:)
