  4. Hello I'm from the Killing Floor forums. I was like "What the hell, a simulation game beating a zombie shooter? (when the sim was winning)" at first. I posted a few comments on the forums and some people posted a few videos of the game. It's now on my list on what I should buy next :P I've come here to say that I am...frustrated with the KF community right now with how they've been acting. And I'm sorry about the idiots who left racist and hateful posts. I'm truly sorry that you have to deal with these idiots. And on top of that, I must say thanks for not attacking the KF forums yourself. You've shown great sportsmanship about this and makes me sigh at some of the bigots making a fool of themselves. On another note, good luck in the polls! -Voltali

  7. In the end, I think it was great community effort here getting the votes in. Considering that DCS Blackshark is sim in a very niche genre, having that many votes and carrying the lead for as long as it did is quite a statement. As far as the whole "cheating votes" thing - Most people who play Blackshark are older and generally operate from one computer. Sure they may have one at work, but think of how many are firwalled from gaming sites at work. God knows I am. I'm lucky to be able to see these forums. And that's not saying that the Killing Floor votes were massivley overstated either. Each game got less than 3000 votes. That's not alot of votes in the grand scheme of gamers. Killing Floor got exposed to many more people based upon it's engine alone and it's advertising via Steam. Not my kind of game and didn't download it. Kind of got tired of the twitch-reaction based shooters in my late 20's. Now, as I reach 40, I prefer more tactical games. But props to Killing Floor and it's players. Diversity is what keeps the gaming industry from going completely under. This has nothing to do with any nationality or geographic location. It was a reader's poll for games. For the "Russian vs _______" aspect to become a debate in the first place was out of place by the members of both communities who participated in that debacle. I say congrats to both games and each other game in the polls. It gave them some publicity that they may not have gotten otherwise. To the people from the Killing Floor (and Steam Forums in general), if you ever feel like something different. Hop into the cockpit of the Blackshark. The learning curve is vertical. The manual is over 500 pages. It's a heckuva change from the shoebox shooter genre and could be fun in a different aspect of gaming. Of course, what is enjoyable and good is perceptive to each individual gamer. If you need advice or help, just ask. Novices are always welcome :) No need to bash Killing Floor the game, nor it's players. It was a PC game in a world of console ports. At least the top two were strictly PC and one of those top two was DCS :)

One mission and you will be ready to start killing - i promise. Lots to learn in Black Shark. take one bite at a time or your jaw will hurt.

  12. Yep, been using one for a while now (Xonar DX). Simply a superb sound card, none of that alchemy rubbish you have to deal with on creative cards, and the drivers are actually well written and don't cause crashes every 5 minutes. Audio quality is far superior to any creative x-fi card I used in the past, and they come in PCIe x1 flavour as well as normal PCI.

  14. The Intercom and VHF-2 radio need to be on to ask the tower for Engine Start Clearance... so in the real world one would have those on at least. Ejection, fire extinguisher, EKRAN would be on before engine start for obvious reasons. Without ground power the AC systems won't be powered until the main rotors get turning above 86% RPM (this is the AUTO setting! initially the throttles are at LOW 79%) with the generators on which is rather late in the procedure. There is the emergency AC bus that can be powered by the MOD-500 DC-AC converter but that only covers a limited selection of items. Batteries of course cover all the DC stuff. The fuel tanks should provide adequate flow by gravity/suction without the pumps but it's a violation of safety to do so at any point during operation. The APU supplies no electrical power. All it is is bleed air for engine start. Spiking the electrical system (in fact battery draw, currents, and potentials) are all not modeled since ED couldn't get detailed-enough information. You will never damage the electronics in the Ka-50 outside of battle damage. A small aircraft often uses electrical power to start the engine (like a car) so saving battery power for start can be critical. The Ka-50 uses bleed air so that isn't an issue. Without ground power there are limits to what system you can bring online before engine start. I usually leave stuff like NAV, K-041, and WCS for after start.

  16. I'm not sure I agree with you. I've flown Black Shark with both a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick and for the last half year with a X52 Pro. 1. The helicopter is actually really stable by itself and requires very little, if any, pedal input to hold heading - of course it is somewhat sensitive to wind but that's how it works. 2. AMAZING turn performance imo, both left and right. Especially during pedal input at high forward speeds. 3. Your description sounds like bad practice on your part. I must say that the trim system (trims not only cyclic but also pedals, plus that it directs the auto-pilots to what attitude, altitude and heading you want to hold) is very good - even with my Extreme 3D Pro or X52 Pro I'm having no trouble at all. Remember to use Right Ctrl+Enter to see where you trimmed your controls? 4. Not sure about this one, but it wouldn't seem very strange that it can experience VRS because of the design, it's kind of inherent to this rotors-on-top design ;). The solution isn't the best but never get into it at low altitude and then you're fine =) 5. During a hover you stress the engines a lot more than during normal flight, it's more a helicopter design problem that the EEG's can't maintain rotor RPM, rather than some fault with the simulator. But I'm not sure on this one. It would be interesting to know what data you're referring to? 6. With proper handling the Black Shark can go a lot faster than 300 kph without rotor disc intersection. I feel that maybe Vne should be set at something around 320 kph. This is most definitely a handling issue on your part. I'm sure several others with me can agree on that. Avoid right rudder during high speed flight and make sure to always give her the smooth treatment. Also this is dependant on the weather conditions during flight. On your stick note, I'm sure X52 Pro is not the best choice, but in my opinion it is a very good HOTAS for this simulator. Hopefully someone else will come and join me to help you tackle the issues you are experiencing.

  17. 98% on open Black-Shark multiplayer-servers you get this expierence: Loop this 7 times... Begin========Begin 1. Start with cheat 2. Make some mission progress with try and error. 3. Five minutes after start got shot. Die. 4. Go to 1. End==========End Leave the server So in contrast to many others on Black-Shark- + LockOn-multiplayer-servers i don't expect any change.

  24. Steam gauges will make LEAVU a complete package. Very cool that you are considering them. Either option sounds good, just be sure to please include a save option so that you don't have to place them with each start LEAVU. 2D panels are just fine IMO. Maybe they'll take less resources.

  28. While I agree with your sentiment about the level of fidelity Arma does jets with, this is not in itself proof one way or the other - There's a few people that have posted here flying the Ka-50 with a keyboard :-) Personaly I think untill it has a more complete "stable" of aircraft, ED should concentrate on the air warfare side of things, but their own sub-contracting work for the US Govt shows that the concept has "legs" even with today's technology. It's significant though that the US Govt is getting (through a supervising technology integrating lead contractor) specialists in each field (FPS, SIM, RTS) to develop the various elements, not one company to do the whole battlefield. I think the best way forward for this would be for someone - perhaps ED, perhaps a stand alone company, to develop a standard (both comms & things like minimum standards for ballistics / AI FM's / radar modelling) that allows one platform (Infantry sim/air sim/naval sim/overall strategy) to communicate with another in real time. That way the infantry sim can model things at the correct level (think ARMAII & beyond) on the ground - with a max view range appropriate to that SIM. The air sim sees a world at the appropriate level of detail and view range. Common shared details are passed between (terrain, buildings & unit positions (including rounds & missiles etc), radar & laser detection, not grass & broken windows or the fact that your Ka-50 is "running on accumulators")

  33. TL;DR: I recently discovered some articles from i5 automatic overclocking using 1-2 cores vs 3-4 cores when checking some specs of Core i7 vs Core i5. Q: "The Return of Affinity hack?" Here's some good reference material if you consider i7 or i5, and wonder if you should HT (minor reference to why it may not boost DCS so much), as well as experimenting with Affinity if you're a Core i7 or i5 owner. Brief overview: Core i5 vs. Core i7: Differences Between Intel's i5 and i7 Processors Now I havent seen this on my old first generation i7 940 - but I'll be sure to test it out a bit later. I think have read somewhere that the old i7 9xx may have experienced some difficulties doing this, the boost newer happened, so it may be hard to do with the old versions. The effects of turbo / automatic overclock of i5/i7, Tom's Hardware (oh god I hate the adverts there now); Intel’s Turbo Boost: Lynnfield Gets Afterburners p.4 From the brief look I had it seems - i5 might perform as good as any i7 if it gets boosted. Goods news. - i7 owners may actully be able to get some (long lost) more performance? (If it works on older i7 cpu's) I havent personally tested any of the effects - but if someone else wish to share their experience testing affinity on i7 / i5 - and if you get "Auto Overclock" / "Turbo" mode - then I there's gonna be a lot of people interested in the topic. I'll be back with more material if I have the time to test it myself :)

  34. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced the F-35 is the swansong of the manned fighter and in fact the "lost generation fighter". The true next generation fighter is an UCAS, isn't it? "5th generation" is just an LM marketing trick. Let's try to make this case (don't take it too seriously though ;-): - the F-35 has the pilot in an entirely wrong place: IN the aircraft. For gods sake. This means you are tossing around a person at 9 G's, with all negative impact this has on SA, while you can easily put him in a comfortable armchair as thousands of lockon pilots prove every day. - The whole Idea that you send this valuable man into highly defended enemy airspace for sead missions totally escapes me. What about sending missiles into this airspace? Sounds like a better useful payload/gross weight ratio to me! Sending the pilot with the weapons package is like our version of Taliban tactics. Werner Von Braun had a better understanding decades ago. - This guy in the cockpit takes away valuable space for armamant anyway, and if it goes wrong you can go search him, with all risks involved! - OK, the F-35 screen is somewhat bigger than the ones in current fighter aircraft. Have you compared this laughably crammed screen with the screens a predator crew can use, while nipping a hot chocolate from a comfortable seat? - Isn't it chrystal clear that the predator outfit is only the beginning (like technicolor was the beginning of color movies), and that a true next generation UCAS will provide crews with ACMI/AWACS like tactical screens? Talk about SA then! - The F-35 costs so much that the UK will eventually only be able to buy about 50. Think about how many UAV's you can build with that money! - With the fuel the F-35 burns on taking off, your UAV will fly a complete 16 hour mission. - there currently would be a bandwidth problem if one were to try to send the plenty of information in the F-35 cockpit over a secure network. But that is a false problem: a. There is an even greater bandwith problem IN the cockpit of the F-35 between the information system and the poor pilot, who will have to be superhuman to be able to process that info at supersonic speed. An UAV is managed by a crew of 3. And you can easily fill the room with ten if it gets interesting. b. an all UAS approach would divide those complex tasks over many more airframes, so that bandwidth issues can be spread. - How many flight hours did you all have, at your PC in Lockon? In my case, it must be several thousands. Try to do this in a real F-35 cockpit, and pay the bill! - whereas Reaper and UCAS-D are 100% next generation aircraft built with todays technology, the F-35 is an attempt to cram into a 20st century concept a myriad of 21st century technologies. Its like packaging the future in the past. This hybrid will be overcomplex, utterly unreliable, difficult to sustain and will miss all the real advantages of the new technologies. - If you were to try to simulate what you can do in the next UAS systems in a real aircraft, you will have a very poor and limited "simulation". So, I rest my case: the true future of fighter aviation are we, the virtual pilots. WE are the 5th generation crowd :D The F-35 is a last effort of a dying industry that tries to sell us the dream of a manned fighter. They should convert to hollywood moviemaking. Or make console software or something. (to be sure: I actually like F-35, but lets say I have some questions, so "you are shooter"! :-)
