  1. Hi all, I hope you're doing well! As development on the 2.0 build of the UH-60L mod is wrapping up I'd like to give an overview of the changes coming to the mod and some thoughts on the future. I was planning to do this in video form (and may still do so later) but I'm recovering from a nasty cold and currently can't stop coughing long enough to talk sensibly. Hence this post will have to do in the meantime One question I know will be on people's minds is "what about the submods?". The answer is simple - it's entirely up to the respective developers. I will be cleaning up the Discord server and rearranging the channels a little, but development and maintenance of the submods remains, as ever, the domain of the respective owners. The first area I want to discuss is art. I'm well aware the artwork of the UH-60L mod has it's limitations and issues. However there are no major art changes in this update. I'd love to do a complete overhaul of the model from scratch but I lack the capacity and capability to do it myself and I'm yet to find someone both talented and dedicated enough to commit to that endeavour. It would require a significant amount of work and time and I see this as being almost the entirety of a possible v3.0 update in the future, if possible. The positive side of this is that liveries _should be_ largely unaffected by this update. With that out of the way let's get into what is coming. The first big change is the flight model. While the engine and transmission simulation remains relatively basic (and will continue to do so) the flight modelling and physics have been completely rewritten. It's difficult to convey a change that is largely a subjective experience but I believe the result is far more accurate and dynamic than the previous version. From a technical point of view the new simulation is now mostly physics based instead of using tabulated data. The stability systems have also been updated and while the Flight Path Stabilization will remain a work in progress for now, I'm happy with the SAS and trim implementations. Speaking of trim, Force Feedback is now supported! You will need to enable this in the mod's Special Options menu. One art change that did come in is the use of the rotor blur system. Aside from a great visual update this also allows for flapping and coning animations which really improves the rotor disc effect. A new feature that many have asked for is the door gunner AI. The UH-60L now comes with the possibility of adding M60 and M3M door guns that are controlled by AI gunners. These gunners can be controlled with an ROE toggle key and a simple UI is also available to show their status. The M3M is a little fictional liability I included but I think it fits nicely. Another big change coming in 2.0 is the new 'DAP' variant. This is loosely based on the MH-60L Direct Action Penetrator. Since many of the capabilities that make up the MH-60L are not possible to implement in a mod (e.g. FLIR, laser designation, terrain radar...) I've compromised by taking the UH-60L and giving a ridiculous (but realistic) amount of dakka. The door gunners are replaced by M134 miniguns that can also be toggle to fix forward for pilot fire control, and the ESSS pylons can take the following weapon options: * 2x M230 30mm chain guns * 2x GAU-19 .50 rotary machine guns * 2x M134 miniguns * 4x FN HMP-500 .50 machine guns * 4x M260 7-shot rocket launchers * 4x LWL-12 12-shot rocket launchers * 4x M261 19-shot rocket launchers * 16x AGM-114K Hellfire laser guided missiles * 8x Air To Air Stinger missiles Custom cockpit panels have been added to the DAP variant for both the pylon weapons and door gunners. The DAP variant also has the fuel probe enabled by default for air to air refueling. Both aircraft now also have more options for fuel bags. The older 230 and 450 gallon tanks are now in stock. For the cargo haulers I'm pleased to announce that this version supports the new cargo system for loading and unloading crates and troops onto your aircraft. It's also now possible to release your slingloaded cargo, although it continues to have no effect on the flight model at this time. A number of other quality of life and bug fix changes have been added, and so I'll wrap up by listing some of them below: * Various DGNS bug fixes * Added FLY TO course support for DGNS * Various CIS, HSI and VSD fixes * Added sunglass/visor * AVS-7 now only visible when NVGs are on * Moveable crosshairs on the DAP variant * Overhauled damage model with new collision geometry and damage values * Doors can be removed or added from the Ground Crew menu * Added crew models (visibility can be toggle from interior as usual) * Interior geometry updated for proper enclosure and better lighting effects * Added working windscreen wipers * Various fixes to radios and ground crew calling * Fixed RWR displaying symbology outside of RWR * Fixes for fuel tank mass calculations and AFMS display * New documentation * New installer I'm sure I've missed some things but I'll leave them for you to find them out! --Kinkku

  2. BA-52 "Wyuga" - ELINT pod for Su-22, with the "Lutch" indicator. I made it so when you equip the Wyuga, the TV in cockpit gets replaced by the screen for KH-58 and 25MPU targeting. Now comes the fun part - coding the sead indicator and logic using Su-25A avionics

  5. This is video was very well made and it is the confirmation that this module brings quality and completeness. They have even worked the full functionalities of the AMU and from what I saw on the previous video the CNI-MU is also fully implemented and this is easier to say that actually doing it. If it would have not been that I have already pre-purchase it the first day it was available, I would purchase it right now. I can see an incredible potential for missions and since the Airplane Company was "new" on DCS I was a bit cautious on this but seeing what we have seen on the provided videos I LOVE IT, another great third party developer that knows how to do its job !!!

  9. Simple Request. The ability to restrict liveries. Why? Many reasons, the ability to PID by tail flash, single player missions/campaigns that are focused on a certain unit. Multiplayer missions, squadron missions, etc. We can restrict weapons

  10. Incoming fire expected, but I'm starting to think that we have it all wrong. I think that DCS was neither meant to be a flight simulator nor a combat simulator. DCS is a Flight/Combat Simulator Simulator The fun isn't actually flying/combatting, the "fun" is actually getting the simulator to function properly; the software IS the game. User mods are just extra "quests" to complete to get/keep the game running. Every now and then ED will throw in maps or EA modules that just barely work -- just to keep everyone playing the actual game of getting the software running properly -- again. Think that indie hacker game where you actually had to code in a console to play the game... Thank you. I'm off the soapbox now. TLDR: There is more activity in these forums about how to fix, enhance, modify and overcome faults than there is actually FLYING and using the sim for it's purpose of digital combat flight simulation. If ED doesn't see the previous sentence as the WHOLE issue here, then we're all doomed. DOOMED, I tell you. ...For the forum topic: I wish that ED would release a "DCS 3.x", that has 2025 graphics capabilities, functional AI, functional FM, functional weapons, populated maps, updated legacy maps, improved ATC and Carrier ops, more static templates, fully-functional modules and maps BEFORE release, EA < 1yr, DCE, updated ME and scripting engine, involve (not alienate) UNPAID module builders, implement all the promised changes for the past 10 years, AND finally, reign in the evangelists long term members on the forums. All in one package. I would even pay for such a new and improved DCS -> but only when it hit v3.5.

  12. The radar does have a weather mode, but its mostly used for A/G / low level flight. The weather radar is actually one of the very few things in the plane that isnt modeled, but the DCS weather system at the moment just isn't fleshed out enough to make it a good experience. You wouldn't like what you saw on the display...

  15. Have you considered that a given aircraft can fly on either "blue" or "red" sides? .. an F-16 can fly for REDFOR with a Venezuelan livery, a Mig-29 can fly for BLUEFOR with a luftwaffe livery, and so on. You are putting on your own force-jacket when setting up your coalition's countries, instead of using your imagination and devising mission situations that are balanced for both sides.

  16. Ah, I was wrong about something, the missus will be pleased . Shame about the wind on Sunday, some good as there was enough space to mooch around in, relaxed a bit. That fighter balbo’s getting better every year I think? Ain’t we lucky . Mrs Slippa got a bit choked for a bit there, it does get ya. I know what you mean about the line-up, what to shoot? Spoilt for choice. Years ago I’d have my eye glued to a viewfinder filming the lot but too much of that and you miss just experiencing it all. I do a lot more mooching about and chatting now. I only got a few shots of the balbo this time as Mrs Slippa wandered off with my long lens and I got busy chatting with the fella about the workshop. We’d walked down from the West by the Rapide flights, watched the ground rehearsal for a bit before they went up.

  19. RECRUITING FOR A-10C CLASS 25-02 IS NOW OPEN! Recruitment is now open for interested Warthog drivers. Currently, we are seeking Pilots based in US timezones, we welcome international applicants but be advised we expect them to be able to participate in our formal flight nights that start at 1900 eastern on Thursday and Sunday evenings. ABOUT THE v303rd FIGHTER GROUP Recently celebrating our 3rd Anniversary the v303 FG is a US-based group focusing on USAF TTPs. We welcome the international community but to become a member you must be able to fly during evenings across US time-zones. The Virtual 303rd Fighter Group is a mil-sim lite group focused on building innovative DCS enthusiasts through tactics, training and high-end combat as we continue to grow our skills in flight simulation. We are a close-knit relaxed group of friends, who understands real world commitments and responsibilities and we do not take ourselves to seriously! The Group currently flies the DCS A-10C II and DCS F-16C. Both of which through the natural training progression start training separately but evolve to work together to execute Group operations. Our training server is available 24/7 with additional servers available when conducting combat operations. We use tools such as Tacview for sortie debriefings, LotATC for controllers, and DCS Olympus to make combat operations feel alive and unpredictable. A-10C TRAINING PROGRAM DCS A-10C Basic Qualification Training Course (B-Course) is designed to make the student pilot proficient as a wingman in all aspects of DCS A-10C employment within the v303 FG. Student Pilots in B-Course will fly exclusively as a wingman except when flying with other students. DCS A-10C Mission Qualification Training (MQT) is Squadron developed and upgrades B-Course (BAQ) pilots to accomplish the v303 Fighter Squadrons specific missions. The goal is to further refine the students abilities within the v303 FG at a tactical level. Each aircraft MQT program is refined to highlight the aircraft's specific capabilities and primary mission set. v303 Fighter Group Weapons School (WS) has two mandatory courses for A-10 pilots (Close Air Support & 2-Ship Flight Lead Upgrade), the rest of our offered courses such as Instructor Pilot Upgrade (IPUG), Forward Air Controller, Aircraft (FAC/A), and Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) are an optional course for pilots that complete MQT. The goal of this course is to train pilots how to control and exploit the air environment and how to plan large force exercises (LFE)/combat missions. Weapons School graduates serve as advisors for the v303 FG, their respective squadron(s), and assist in drafting and validating tactical doctrine for the Group. v303 FG LINKS v303 FG Discord v303 FG Website v303 FG Recruiting/application page

  21. Honestly - I don‘t know. But since all of us have night visibility problems, I don‘t think it is hardware related, since the displays should be capable of showing black without halo and the other stuff… As you see, the problem with sunrise/clouds can already be solved by settings in the software. Maybe Pimax / Calvin can make a statement here…

  23. In DCS, the data for the Magic 1 missile comes from a variant before early-to-mid 1980s, whose seeker head used ordinary glass that hardly transmitted infrared light above 3 μm. Even with a liquid-nitrogen-cooled seeker, the end result would still be similar to the AIM-9B. However, the modeling uses a seeker head with magnesium fluoride, which is opaque. It should have similar performance like AIM-9D/R-13M

  25. Nice apocalypse therapy session. You’ve invented a new genre: meta-simulated ennui—DCS isn’t a sim, it’s a bug-hunt simulator. Cute. Reality check: some people indeed love the fiddly joy of installing mods and fixing LUA scripts; others actually enjoy flying and shooting stuff. Both camps exist. Want a polished “DCS 3.x” miracle boxed up with 2025 graphics, flawless AI, perfect carriers, and a worship-free forum? Great wishlist — drop it in Santa’s mailbox next to “unlimited development resources” and “instant QA for all third-party modules.” If you want change that isn’t a rant-shaped prayer: Pick three realistic, measurable improvements and push them with reproducible bug reports and community proposals. Stop asking for “everything” in one release; prioritize. Engage unpaid modders with concrete incentives (docs, tool access, communication channel), not broad insults. And while you’re at it, fix “its” vs “it's”—syntax matters when you want devs to take you seriously. We’re not doomed. We’re just dramatic, and drama doesn’t compile into features.

  26. My guess based on previous ED releases They said release likely end of summer. (After previous revision from June) This by ED standards means no earlier then September 22. (The absolute last day of summer is still summer ) Typically things get held up by about a week which puts it at September 29, but you don't release on a Monday so likey September 30th to October 2nd depending on issues. This lines up with the pre-order discount on steam which is September 30th

  27. Now on 1.14.2, with QVC and TM favourite settings. Performance on 1.14.2 is back up to solid 90fps and the sharpening in PP is really great (I cap it at 70 anyway and leave headset Hz at 90), still some stuttering when looking towards 3/9 o'clock near the ground where there's lots of objects but screenshots below i'm getting a very faint white box in the centre of the FOV After further flying the white boxes are not so much white, but more like brighter, very noticeable when looking at darker stuff like water or bottom of the cockpit. I've made some screenshots and edited them them to show an approximation of the effect, although they are more noticeable around the edges than in the centre in real. Something is telling me: its the more focused area being different to the peripheral. If I could just sort this id be square) Pimax play sharpening at 0.6, Upscaling off, smart smoothing off, pp quadviews off. thanks 5090 MSI Suprim soc DDR5 6200 19-14900K

  33. That's not true. F-16C Baltic Dragon.zip livery uses 55MB space, unpacked it's 278MB. Other liveries yield to similar ratios. But ok, question answered by @Czar. I was just curious why DCS downloads a lot of liveries in .zip format when updating and thought it might be a space saving option.

  34. Maybe this is old news, but why does Pimax want to know my location, where my PC is at, at all times when I turn my PC on? The installed Pimax software literary checks my location every single minute my PC is on and online. Every single minute. Why? I came over this just by accident and have now turned off location services from Windows for the time being. I have checked the history for this for the last week now, and only Pimax is listed as a app that checks my location. And it checks this every single minute. Waste of resources, and there's a privacy concern in this too I think. @Calvin.Pimax Why do you need to know this? And why check it for every minute that passes?

  37. I totally agree @Despayre's comment and the TID repeater is a good resource for a pilot. Just in case the pilot is busy with the SAM launch, a red opponent shows at six suddenly... etc... RIO can help up a bit. But, it is okay and it is just a wishlist.

  38. I wouldn't call Spud's video recommendation a bug fix. That's more like masking the symptom. Not to mention, will you spend the time to edit all the training mission and scenario files after each DCS update? It may be viable for mission creators in a multiplayer environment. However, even with a small amount of wind, steering is hard to control. I would also argue that having a small amount of wind at 33ft helps to dissipate any smoke over the airfield. Otherwise, the smoke will bellow and completely mask the landing area. I do hope that Magnitude 3 remedies this problem sooner than later. As previously stated, I will not fly the Corsair until this bug is resolved.

  39. It's because the assets in my mod packs doesn't have a Level Of Detail (LOD) configuration. Using this technique the models will be replaced with ones with much less polygons the further away they are. Without LODs your computer will have to calculate the max poly version of the asset regardless of the distance to you. My core DCS assets all have LODs, and I'm currently adding it to the mod packs also, but it'll take a while before it will be done to all of them.

  40. Welcome to the update Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.2! This update brings a few changes with it: First, the USS Enterprise got support for lights at night. Second, the USS Bon Homme Richard and Generic Essex carriers with SCB125 upgrade got updated parking positions, so planes drive in reverse to the parking. Unfortunately the result is not always great - some positions the planes wiggle for and back. We're working on further improvements to this, but with the carrier plugin gone from ModelViewer it's quite some work. Third, the livery names were normalized and start with the ship designation in brackets (e.g. (DD-728)). The update only contains the changed assets and not the complete mod. You need to install Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.0, then update to Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.1, and finally this update Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.2 can be installed. https://github.com/tspindler-cms/tetet-vwv/releases Alternate download on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XHQWl6aq5nPYAeLnRnSViTqPBNsMcx7u?usp=drive_link Enjoy! 46. I've done a bit of research. These are the sensors of the S-31EZh "Zhelazny" system (Russian: С-31ЭЖ), the pilot's head tracking system. How it works: This system was part of the ZSh-5 – the world's first integrated helmet-mounted sighting system (HMS), introduced in the MiG-29 and Su-27 in the late 1970s/early 1980s. These "windows" are infrared photodetectors that observe reflections from small, point-shaped IR emitters (diodes) located in the pilot's helmet. This allows the aircraft's targeting computer to know the pilot's direction of view and can direct the OLS-29 sensor (optoelectronic infrared sighting system) or weapons (e.g., R-73 missiles with a wide-angle head) to where the pilot's eyes are looking. The "pulsation" that is visible to the naked eye (sometimes a slight flicker is visible) is the result of these infrared emitters/receivers working - the system is constantly checking the head position. So - old Track IR ! Good to know. I'll check, Do you remember how to activate the HMD in the Ka-50? I haven't flown one in a while.
