Military Assets for DCS by Currenthill

IMHO I would prefer individual downloads for the simple space requirement of packs. I don't always use everything in a pack. My tuppenceworth.....:-) -

Wow, that's horrendous, I recall we were regularly sprayed with that stuff after a short announcement, " A member of the cabin staff will shortly come through the cabin to spray against any mosquito's or bugs that may have entered the aircraft." That happened each time we came back from Belize, just before descent. Could'nt you claim war pension from that?, gets you free pensions for that particular condition only. Unless like me you've made it to the State Pension, unlike the majority of our friends. Well done again for getting everyone back too. I've got bad back, knees & feet from being detached to the army so often, so it's fair wear and tear. I have an ex marine physio, and he could not compute, crabfat and all these infantryman's injuries, but on my last visit he said, you either bul****t your stories or an elephant sat on you, your body's battered man. I was really touched by that That skin's just the job by the way, thanks I can recommend getting the Maserati car mod and driving around the place, just always start from on the ground, don't let it be on a turning point or you'll start 6k above the place Condor.....I'm from Dundee....so you know why I joined up, I love the RNAS Condor displays in the early 60's, Scimitar's Sea Vixen's & the Gannet wrecks by the main road. They were great airshows, but I was about the height of a sea vampire main tyre then, but I do remember them well lol -

Thx Crazy Eddie, Downloading now, nice plane, but we had R/T probs around Ascension, probably due to time of day and frequency prediction charts go in the bin at Sunrise/Sunset. Coming back from Falklands the Right engine would not spool up past 70%, no one wanted to go down the back and send 300 pax back off the plane (Considered a dangerous thing to do) So Rolls Royce guy had the bonnet open for ages, and we made a few restarts, no joy...then he comes aboard and reads the log, tells the Capt to take off and get to 30k+ soonest as it'll work fine there. (That went down well..) Eventually Capt agrees to do the take off and get out to 30k but if it's still duff, he's coming back. No spare engines at Mount Unpleasant so this would be about a week turn round..... Anyway, off we went it made some odd noises and fluctuation but at 29500 it coughed and cleared itself up to full power as we got to 30 k, took it to 32K and it was humming. So a good flight, until south of Ascension when we got a bad weather warning, as the radio's became unreadable in lighting storm (R/T is badly affected by lightning) No one could get the wind speed, must've tried about 20 times. hey ho gotta come down anyway. The approach was interesting as the wipers didn't seem to be clearing the water off the windshield. I did mention the small hill in front of the runway at Ascension, we pulled up a wee bit as the USAF base lights slid down the left side, awfy close.... and then LIGHTS, and down we came, it was not pretty, it was pretty hard and I'm sure we were not pointing the right way a few times....! The pilot said that was the worst landing experience in 40 years of V force and Tanking. Why, because we were NOT cleared to use the ILS system that's fitted to the Tristar, that was compatible with the U.S. system, because the MOD would not cough up for the RAF licence as we had only the Tristar used it, not enought airframes -
My first encounter with a Lynx on exercise in Germany, Paderborn training area, 78-79. We were Orange team, and on top of a hill, nice 3 man team with landrover, happy days. Had all the cam out so not easy to spot. Then we heard it.....L O N G time before we saw it, got the LMG ready and could have put the kettle on and made a mug of tea, man it was noisy, they overshot us and came back a few minutes later, you could'nt hear yourself think with it searching for us. Then it legged it. No chance of a surprise attack from that! We put it in our report and were'nt asked to play again.

Militariy Aircraft Mod

Could I ask for a DC-10 Skin so I can use the Tri'star in the Falklands map, I went from Ascension, mount pleasant and back on a flight as extra radio operator as we were having a problem with comms at that time, thanks in advance -
Got my order in, man it was log jammed earlier, could'nt even get connected , So went and had a mug of tea, chilled, and it's all sorted on the next attempt. Wonder how many have sold? In two minds on this one, I worked with RAF Lakenheath from RAF Honington, on various things, had a monthly visit to the North Sea range control and watched a few live and a few recorded 'fights', always interesting to see the RAF'V USAF methods and then off to the burger bar....but don't get run over by a trundling Strike Eagle. Noisy objects. I think this wlll be a few screens too many for me, but as long as it has LN on the tail, I'll be happy ....its what retirement is for, wheeeee!!!!!

Project Avro Arrow
flyingscotsman replied to StressfulGengar's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
This would be a fantastic addition, hopefully one day we might get a TSR2...., Wishing you the very best for your Arrow -
I have to put a LOT of down trim as on take off, it goes about 50-60 deg nose up, wallows and trim as I might, had to eject as it rolled, had the burners on too. So tried in the air start, deadzone 4, x & y about 15 curve, but still I can end up a flat spin very easily, and been trimming it nose down from the get go.....but I like the cockpit (prior to departure...) and it looks good.....before it goes into a rapid spin...... My hat off to test pilots in those days

That's the best book I've ever read about modern combat, I provided comms for his squadron, probably saluted him many times but never met. But a great read

A bit late, with apologies, but heartfelt Happy New Year, to EVERYONE who works at ED, helps out and moderates and keeps us in line, THANK YOU one and ALL.

Great to hear this coming, I had some Sim time in the RAF Honington sim, was totally lost for most of it, the pilot spoke at 90 words per minute, but it was great fun. Didn' t see the Tornado in the 2023 release on UTUBE an hour or so ago, but still will be wallet ready

eeee the Hook, I thought it looked beautiful, back in 64, William Greens, observers pocket book of aircraft.....if you remember that, I hope you remembered to collect your Pension, lol THANK YOU

Saab SK-60 Trainer
flyingscotsman replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Thank you, I remember the Saab from Green's 'All the worlds aircraft' back in the 60's. Really glad to see this one. -
Looks like we'll have to pull out HMS Akrotiri as a flat top, and base her off the coast instead!
-
We have RAF Akrotiri in the Syria map, probably, I hope it will be an easy, port over.

Blasted fences, we had to erect the barbed wire/metal post version, the first photo, at RAF Brize Norton in the late 70's. One of the senior officers gave a brief that it was scheduled to be completed in six weeks......2 years later, we were still at it. So much for the forward planning! It always seemed to lash rain on the week I was slated for it. This cut and paste install is MUCH easier, lol
-
Hi Hawkeye 60, Thanks for the Vulcan, set it up at RAF Akrotiri Cyprus, and sat in the F-18 as it taxi'ed towards me and lined up on the runway, watched it get started and cut accross to the main runway turned in behind and followed it down the runway, it lifted off......and I lost sight of it....Odd.. Check F10 yep it's in front of me, but the only time I saw it next was in F2 looking accross, I could see both planes. Did another check. AH-64 followed it taxi-ing again, and when it lifted off......Vulkan cloaking device kicked in and it dissapeared......sneaky lot these Vulcans. To confirm, from the cockpit, it cannot be seen after take off Maybe someone else has seen this problem Looks great and thank you

Civilian Objects And Vehicles
flyingscotsman replied to Eight Ball's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Sorry for being lazy, yep downloading the skins, och ye did a Yellow one too, thank you. Pity no one ever did a Whirlwind, HAR10, they sounded great, I never realised though that their payload was RUBBISH. We had a Commando version with us in Norway way back 81, the Puma guys used to take the micky about its speed. I'll say it straight, it was always serviceable...... -
Civilian Objects And Vehicles
flyingscotsman replied to Eight Ball's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Hi Crazeddie, One of the smartest skins IMHO was the RN, ASR version, with the grey/dayglo and playing card markings. I think they were based at RNAS Culdrose . That show's my age, lol -
I agree with Joey45, I had a few trips in Nimrods, even got to 'drive' once, (To stop me being airsick....it worked!) I too loved the FSX Nimrod, best wishes for this MOD.
