When first receiving the Virpil base I was a little disappointed when trying to get a good setup for the base for both helis and jets (I fly an about equal amounts helicopters and jets). When you fly both helicopters and jets and can not afford two perfectly set up individualt sticks/bases, you need to do some compromises. Had been running a TM Warthog base with 7.5 cm extension for two years (to get around the hard center issue). The Virpil setup with the same 7.5 cm extension felt OK, but not great. I decided for fun to test the base with the following setup: TM Warthog grip No extension Soft springs Cosmosim no center cams When flying helicopters, I loosen the tension 13 full turns from all tightened on both axis. Then the stick still centers well. When flying jets I tighten the screws almost all the way. It is close to a "best from both worlds". CONCLUSION: 1. The precision and fine control has for me (surprisingly?) been much INCREASED compared to using the extension and this setup is very good for helicopters. Button ergonomics seem to be better with the shorter throws. IMHO the Virpil base has such a smooth and accurate center, that there is no absolute need to an extension for high presision heli flying (and still have a good feel when changing to a jet). 2. Flight feel when flying jets is much improved with the shorter stick and above setup. F-16 did not feel quite right with a long extension. No more trade-offs and "sloppy stick feel" when flying jets 3. The CM2 base is great as you can change the tension very quickly using a hex screw driver (included). A HUGE selling point if you fly both helis and jets. I know preferred setup varies greatly form person to person, but do not do like me and think that a longer extension automatically equals a better setup (for heli and jet flying). No extension can be pretty awesome too (at least with this base).

Virpil throttle not working in DCS ...
MIghtymoo replied to CTBlankenship's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
Yes, MSFS. To the point I decided to just unistall it. Personally I have had minimal ctd with DCS (Flown for two years and had one handfull of them). -
Not in fromt of the DCS ME, ATM. Is there not a new setting under Options in "Advanced Waypoint Actions" that allows the AI to continue on the mission even if the odds are low for success?

Virpil MT-50 CM2 4-way hats always trigger push function in parallel
MIghtymoo replied to shagrat's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Got the CM3 Throttle for Christmas and have the newest FW and software installed. All in all very satisfied. But, have the same problem as the original poster. Very annoying to not be able to use the hat push buttons. If you map the push button in DCS and use the hat, it register the push button when returning the hat to center. Workaround is unmapping the push button from logical windows button. Would love to see if someone has a solution for this. -
Tobii eye and face tracking native support - as support for Apache
MIghtymoo replied to thbrix's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I got Tobii headtracker for Christmas and I tried hard to set it up. Worked pretty well with Farcry 6. For DCS it was not a good experience. Very hard to get used to the jumpy eyetracking, especially on a large screen when scanning the cockpit / MFDs. When disabling the eyetracker and only using headtracking, I found out that the Tobii reacted to when I blinked and moved the camera up slightly every time. This was especially bad if zoomed in on instruments/MFDs. I tried all kinds of guides and settings before giving up. Tobii was sent back for a refund. Now I realize just how good combo with Smoothtrack (on the iPhone) and Opentrack (on the PC) really is. If you have a phone with a decent front camera I would highly recommend this combo if you want to have mo gear on your head. Old pic of setup with iPhone on top on monitor: -

Can you report back after testing? I have a package arriving on the 24th, but has heard less favorable reviews lately and consider just returning the unit. -
I little late, but here goes. I use Smoothtrack for DCS and love it. Have had some issues with lag a few times. I make sure to close all open apps on my iPhone before flying. Only have Smoothtrack open. I am also using 5 GHz network. If you still have issues, you may have to many devices on the network competing/congesting the network.

Found several things not working on the HAD page 1. TMS Right should cycle targets/emitters. Does not work 2. TMS Left should show SEAD info on the DED screen: Does not work 3. TMS Down should "unlock" locked target/emitter. Unlocks, but makes the HAD no longer SOI. 4. TMS Up should add markpoint after pressing the MARK (7) on the ICP. Does not make mark point. Works with Ground Radar and in HUD. Sidenote: PS: Found a "new" TMS command in the HAD page : "TMS Up Long" changes mode EO/PB/RUK in the HAD page.

In the newly released video from the Norwegian Airforce there is a clip at 01:50 where the F-16 drops iron bombs (see attached image). I managed to count 18 bombs in the short clip (may be more?) In DCS the max load-out is 12 (three on each of a total of four pylons). Any experts out to clarify the observation?

And all scenarios can be just as fun It is a sim and sandbox.

I think this will be very much enjoyed by the DCS community. Lots of video from inside the cockpit and great filming overall. Looks just like DCS. Some Norwegian language, but still a treasure chest for ANY F-16 fan.

Looks like a simple and easy way to do this.

I have seen the video to verify that post penetration now works . I was looking more for info about which modules and bombs have delayed fuze options. I can't find any in the A-10C II.

I love mission editing, but it can be a time consuming job. Also creating your own mission from scratch, takes away some of the surprise. If you like to create fun missions quickly, I highly recommend BriefingRoom for DCS World: https://akaagar.itch.io/briefing-room-for-dcs A good mission can be created in a few minutes. PS: I am not linked to creator in any way.

Great write-up for realistic setup of defences. Manpads are fun to locate and kill, but not in above scenario. Many of us are not hardcore milsim players. Honestly, I think DCS is just tedious and to difficult if you make too hyper realistic milsim scenarios. I love something between arcade and milsim. Most DCS F-14 pilots fire more Phoenix missiles in one playing session, what the whole US-fleet has fired in combat through history For me DCS is a sandbox for fun scenarios: Setup a mission that is possible to complete with a wingman. Not penetrate a multi layered SA-defence, peppered with lots of enemy planes.

A-10C II was my very first module. Tried hard, got frustrated, moved to F-5, F-14, F-16, Huey, Hind, Mig-21, Flaming Cliff +++ Now I am back to the A-10C II and enjoy it alot. Favorites depending on my current mood: For CAS: A-10C II A2A and high threat (SAMS, planes etc) missions: F-16 For low level threat missions with focus on navigation and flying: Mig-21 (F-5 is also nice) Helicopter: Huey (Hind is awesome, especially the start-up and in co-op, but too much in a beta for me; Petrovitch not complete enough, changing keybinds frequently etc)

Litening pod poor contrast/generally useless?
MIghtymoo replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
It is not super easy to find target only using the TGP. I prefer to look out of the side of the cockpit and when I see something usefull, slew the TGP to HMCS cursor. Then it is pretty easy to locate targets. -

+1 Reading it now. Interesting if you want to know the life of an A-10 pilot!
