    F-16XL

I guess nothing about F-16XL is any worse than J-8PP. Just remember that the flight control was in a rough state at the time of completion. I think the prototype had F-16A avionics but I heard block 25 as well. I don’t think ED wants to do this project but no reason an interested group couldn’t.
  3. RWR, upgraded version of the J-7PG RWR described
  4. I don’t see why it matters if the F3R uses AESA when we have several options to use PESA doing a computerized RCS study isn’t different from doing a computerized CFD study. It’s a pretty common tool, in fact I’m fairly sure all stealth aircraft produced to date were designed by computer. The Rafale doesn’t incorporate stealth shaping to anywhere it should drastically deviate from any aircraft of contemporary age in game today. Im only saying that as far as DCS is concerned nothing about the Rafale’s EW suite should be that different from the Hornet, Viper, JF-17, and probably Eurofighter. EW is simplified and there exists some fairly detailed articles on how the system works, including a pretty interesting paper by the author.
  5. The Rafale F1 F2 and F3 used a PESA radar. As for RCS it’s not a stealth design and their are RCS https://basicsaboutaerodynamicsandavionics.wordpress.com/2023/04/08/rafale-radar-scattering-simulation/ as for EM, I don’t see that as any different then any other aircraft in dcs 80s-2000s.

  7. https://defencepk.com/forums/threads/paf-j-10c-news-updates-and-discussion.18/page-26#post-56655 this source “Be Dazzled” is PAF connected and has a pretty good track record of being correct. J-10C winning 4 of 6 BVR engagements over Qatari Typhoons. Captor-E MK-0 vs J-10CE AESA PL-15 vs Meteor. would love to get any kind of J-10 some day.
  8. I’m interested to get a look at the new external model. I hope for the BS3 treatment.
  9. The radar on the J-8H/F is actually not secret and it’s easy to get info on (it’s almost identical to apg-66). It seems cockpit functionality is the issue.

    Su-27M

Different rolls, air superiority vs multirole.
  11. PL-8 is heavy, like AMRAAM weight

    Su-27M

Yea I have no idea if it would ever actually be possible, I figure no harm in asking, for the same reason we have the KA-50 and Sukhoi potentially being open to it. my favorite Su-27m video

    Sukhoi also cool!

    Su-27M

Supposedly they cooperated in the past on an Su-27m sim. http://www.migman.com/sw/su-35/Su-35.php apparently as of a few years ago Sukhoi was up to cooperate. maybe not on an in service aircraft but something analog to the KA-50 with a developed aircraft like the Su-27m.
  16. Yes J-10 avonics are similar to JF-17 from the J-10B simulator https://imgur.com/M4hE4gG https://imgur.com/umQoSe1 https://imgur.com/6h5YzWO https://imgur.com/FH5XLmt J-10CE has a similar physical layout even the J-10a is pretty similar https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/attachments/02c5300c-4f51-4431-bf43-e2a30badafbc-jpeg.695365/ of course the 800 pound gorilla in the room for a J-10CE is the AESA radar.
  17. I always liked the looks of this plane

    Su-27M

This request is inspired by Ninelines post in the F-20 thread I’ve always loved the Su-27M. This post got me thinking, if we can’t have a two seat Ka-52 but could have a limited service single seat Ka-50, might an Su-27m be ok? The Su-27m is more or less a single seat Su-30sm in terms of role. Some points. Su-27m would probably have similar performance to an Su-33 but slightly less draggy airframe and higher G limit. Same fly by wire system. Shouldn't effect demand for air superiority Flanker like Su-27 or Su-30mkk. Has a multimode plantar array radar, N011 bars, the mechanical scan version of the N011m pesa used on the SM (last two aircraft had pesa bars as well). Native R-77 compatible compared to J-11 jerry rigged solution. has support for a large array of Soviet air to ground weapons. Most development was Soviet rather then Russian, seems to effect how doable aircraft are. in addition to prototypes and preproduction aircraft, three production jets were produced and operated by the Russian Air Force for a few years, same number as Su-25T. anyway not sure how plausible it is but I thought I would suggest it.

  21. CIA has the F-13 and a number of other mig manuals on their website
  22. I thought about this a few time. I believe it is correct but our mirage does have a more powerful engine then the India mirage did at the time, I don’t know if that can or cannot make the difference in sustained turning. Mig has excellent thrust to weight but is a draggy design and suffers somewhat in sustained turning. On the other hand the mirage is a delta wing and even with the new engine it doesn’t match the migs thrust. It does however have relaxed stability with its fly by wire which cuts down on drag in a turn. I’m not sure, I think with the new engine the mirage an fulcrum should be comparable. the instantaneous turn rate is interesting. If the fulcrum did show itself to have a higher instantaneous turn rate in testing it wouldn’t matter if the engine changed. Both aircraft have excellent ITR, though I heard from a Fulcrum pilot it’s difficult to fully exploit (he also fought the mirage and was disappointed by it). I don’t know if the Fulcrum is under performing or the mirage over performing.
  23. I wouldn’t bring it up then. This is just arguing over alternative history. The Cold War never turned hot in real life and arguing if a fictional scenario would have happed in say 1982 or 1987 or whatever is kinda moot. You’re unlikely to get every single module to meet at the same year.
  24. Rafale would be cool. Years ago there was a Rafale sim being developed by an engineer who worked on the real thing. Ended up running into licensing issues but it was supported by the French navy who planned to use it as a training sim. interview here. https://web.archive.org/web/20070324213332/http://www.france-simulation.com/articles/interview/interview_6.htm I have the 70 some page manual for the sim. Also have a thesis on the M88 with thrust curves, a technical book on the Rafale’s carrier qualification and tons of what I guess are white papers on the aircraft’s radar, mission computer, and other systems.
  25. They did take 52 AMRAAM to the gulf. The 33rd carried them for scud hunting. Initially they were going to leave them at home till the bugs worked out but brought (I guess AMRAAM has superior qualities to Sparrow against ballistic missiles?) apparently they always intended to be able to use the LRIP missiles if the need arose. https://books.google.com/books?id=HqLVPFYIOJMC&pg=PA984&dq=amraam+lrip&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi3tpyD_9CDAxVKFjQIHQ6NCA8Q6AF6BAgPEAM#v=onepage&q=amraam lrip&f=false while it seems the missile deficiencies proved to not be a problem in actual practice. https://books.google.com/books?id=cNTioltU3N4C&pg=PA430&dq=amraam+carry+gulf+war&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiaxZrIgdGDAxU5GTQIHedZADQQ6AF6BAgGEAM#v=onepage&q=amraam carry gulf war&f=false F-15 with AIM-120 in desert storm https://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/f-15-eagles-were-the-deadliest-birds-of-desert-storm/
