Sorry for my late reply, was a bit busy lately. @GumidekCZ @Harker Thank you for pointing me towards these bug reports. I didn't even think of the possibility of running into a bug. I just thought I am doing something wrong. Anyway, good to know that I don't even have to try locking them and need to adjust my strategy until it might be changed by ED. Thank you for the hints. That is basically what I try to practice and why I joined the GS server. I am aware of most of the things you mentioned but unfortunately, knowing something and actually being able to use this knowledge in the heat of a battle are not the same. So I have to practice more and more It is easy to get overwhelmed by all the systems you need to monitor. At least I know now that trying to get a lock on a low flying target while being high doesn't make any sense ATM. So I will try sending some pitbull-AMRAAMS into their direction and look how it works

Hello everyone, I am a EU based pilot (Germany) and looking for some people to fly and learn with. Since my available time varies a lot, I won't be able to participate reliably and regularly in squadron events. Therefore I am looking for a squadron with no obligations regarding participation. What am I looking for: I don't want to be part of an extremely serious squadron (no "Sir" etc.) but I don't want it to be extremely casual neither. I like learning and sticking to real-life procedures, radio and brevity codes when flying missions where everybody agreed on being serious. On the other hand, I also like casual flying and trying some stupid things while chatting with my comrades. I am exclusively flying modern aircrafts even though I have some warbirds in my virtual hangar. Therefore, I am looking for a squadron that focuses on modern birds. I am more of a chopper guy, desperately waiting for the Apache and Kiowa Warrior, but I also enjoy fixed wing aircrafts (I have a glider pilot license). So a mixed squadron that offers chopper and fixed wing pilots a home is also a requirement. Also: Since I am using the open beta branch, my future squadron should also be using it. My modules and setup: The modules I have the most experience with are the F-18, A-10, Ka-50 and the Huey. I own all chopper modules and all maps. As additional fixed wing I have the F-14, F-16 , the Harrier and the Viggen, even though I never touched the Viggen so far. Furthermore I have the combined arms and supercarrier modules. For debriefings, I have a TacView pro license and for more realistic coms with the AI I recently purchased the VAICOM plugin for Voice Attack. What do I offer: Since I got my VR goggles and discovered DCS 9 month ago, I have already gathered 570 hours (steam) on DCS. So 63 hours on average per month. It's not all flying time since I also spend some time in the mission editor. As I said before, I can not promise to contribute regularly, but as the numbers show, I am also not the person that appears once every few months and then vanishes again for half a year. I am also willing to contribute to server and other upkeep costs if is not overly expensive. What else: I have a real close friend that I am flying with once a week on Sundays. I am not sure if he would also join the squadron, but I won't cancel this regular appointment with him, if not. So ideally, the squadron also accepts guests on their servers. I think I have covered the most important informations. If not, feel free to ask

I finally started to practice air-to-air with the hornet. After dozens of youtube videos on that topic (GrowlingSidewinder for example) I first tried fighting AI MiG-29 with R-77 which wasn't that hard even on Ace level. Now I could have started training against other AI aircrafts but I thaught it would be better to just try multiplayer to get a better learning effect. So I joined the GrowlingSidewinder server and had a few test flights. I wasn't bashed as hard as I expected but I found something that I am struggling with: Low flying targets. It might not be a word-by-word quote but one thing GrowlingSidewinder kept repeating in his videos was: "As an AMRAAM capable aircraft you want to fly high. Flying low will get you killed". Does make sense to me since it gives you a range advantage agains aircraft without active radar missiles. However, my problem was that my radar could not pick up low flying targets that maneuvered between the mountains (I was between 30k and 40k feet) until I ate a missile myself (<10nm). While it was a stupid target fixation mistake, to get so close, I wonder how to fight low flying enemy fighters? My current agenda is now to just stay out of their WEZ and break away if I can't pick them up on time but I am curious if there are other options. I thougt of just shooting some pitbull AMRAAMS into their direction and then go cold but I am not sure how high the chances are that they pick a target. To my understanding the situation is not ideal to begin with due to the ground clutter working to their advantage but I am not sure if my radar setup couldn't be improved. I usually use MED PRF for close targets (If I don't forget to switch), a 4bar scan with 20 or 40 degree and the elevation set to the correct height. The problems I run into is that I constantly have to adjust elevation and azimuth the closer the target gets, which distracts me from paying attention to my own defense. Maybe one of the ACM modes is a better solution here, but since it is extremely hard to visually find a target hiding in the dirt I don't know if this is a good choice (at least for me - playing in VR). Sidenote: I was also wondering, how those targets appeared on datalink in the first place. Sometimes, the next friendly unit was double of my distance away and someone must have picked them up to appear in DL. Is the AWACS radar maybe so much more powerful?

no evidence being possible Possible to select a specific waypoint??
Wychmaster replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
At least the kneeboard variant is possible. You need Voice Attack and the VAICOM plugin with interactive kneeboard license. This is really awesome for VR users. The interactive kneeboard directly integrates into the DCS kneeboard and has a dictate mode. I used it yesterday to write down some coordinates from the F10 map and add them as target coordinates for my GBU-38s in PP mode. Dropped all 4 at once and hit. -
The manual can also easily be found online if you search for it

@QuiGon Danke nochmals. Hat soweit erstmal alles geklappt.
-
Usually a 30% discount. This will be reduced to 20% when early access starts. At least this was the case for the Hind.

Found this misplaced yellow point light. It actually belongs to the "BATT SW" caution light on the caution light panel below. I also attached a short track (before somebody asks for it ). hornet_light_bug.trk

fixed Leopard2 AP rounds - no laser distance correction
Wychmaster posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
All variants of the Leopard 2 MBT seem to ignore the distance measured by the laser range finder. The projectiles always fall short at higher distances. The HE rounds are just fine. I have attached a track file to demonstreate the problem for all 4 variants. As reference, I also fired some shots with an Abrams that does not have this problem. bug_leopard2.trk -
So what does "W" stand for?
-
If RW and LW stands for right wing and left wing, I guess no pictures are needed. Good find.

I am currently building a new practice mission and want to keep things half way realistic. While I can place the launchers of a Sa-10 or Sa-11 in DCS multiple miles away from the command vehicles and search radars, I am wondering which real life limitations apply to those systems. How is the data transferred and what are the maximum unit distances?

Collective VPC TCS Plus + Ka-50 Grip
Wychmaster replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thank you. It worked (partially). The non-functional directions were missing physical button mappings (right side on the screenshot you posted). Now everything is set up to my liking. Thanks again. -
What's the secret to getting the throttle to move/rotate during startup?
Wychmaster replied to sirrah's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Hey guys, maybe some of you want to support my feature request in the wishlist: -
To everybody that owns the Plus version: I just created a feature request in the huey forum that you might want to support:
-
I would really like to have an option to cover the full movement range of the throttle with a controller axis. I recently got a VIRPIL rotor base plus and there is no possibility to move below the idle stop in the huey. The axis movement range is limited between idle and max power. The VIRPIL base has a physical idle stop that also functions as a button and it would be great if we get the possibility to actually use this feature in DCS.

Collective VPC TCS Plus + Ka-50 Grip
Wychmaster replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
@71st_Mastiff I have the same setup. Are your 4 way hats working correctly in DCS? Mine have the problem that one of the directions isn't recognized by DCS. So I have to use button press as stand in, which is always triggered when you move any direction above the "click-threshold". -
Good points. Don't want to argue here because I have no real life training/experience on that topic nor did I do any in depth research about it, but I would think that staying hidden with only unmasking the sensors vertically can be performed in more situations than laterally. The latter one requires a slope/edge while the first one can almost always be performed behind any obstacle you are hiding behind. Maybe I am missing something or the possibilities for lateral sensor unmasking are various enough in reality but can you maybe give some examples where Iateral unmasking is more beneficial than vertical. As I said, don't want to argue. I am just curious to get another perspective here.

Yes, the optics of the Kiowa are over the rotor. So you can spot targets visually while hiding in cover. Lasing should also work, but I am not sure. The Apache can detect targets with the radar while in cover, but for visual identification or lasing, you need to pop up and expose yourself.

If there is any module I would invest the time to master it, it is the Apache. Longbow 2 made me fall in love with this helicopter. Since then, I was waiting for a new sim with state of the art technology that includes this awesome aircraft. Think many of the rotorheads here feel the same
