  1. @backspace340: Hey mate, thanks heaps for that. It improved my flying dramatically. He still ran out of fuel just before I could peg him, but he didn't get any shots on me. Cheers!
  2. Geez, this seems impossible. I've tried now about 60 times, no-joy. He gets on my 6 after the first turn, then I cant shake him. I either lose all of my energy trying to pull leaf, or I destroy the aircraft with over G. Can someone please post a YouTube video or something on how to do this. Much appreciated.
  3. @ClearDark I know how you feel. I must have tried this mission 40 times and I have not had 1 legitimate guns kill. Either he gets me, or he runs out of fuel. I've tried vertical, but lose too much energy. I try to pull any lead whatsoever, my airspeed bleeds off too much. The F16 seems to have limitless energy and extreme turning capability. I've even tried extending in full AB then going vertical again, and he just follows me up, with lead pursuit, so I fly into his hail of 20mm. Man its frustrating. Is there any way to dumb the AI down (I know the AI is dumb and predictable anyway, but man, they seem impossible to shake off your six)?
  4. Ahhh copy that, thanks for the info Victory.
  5. There is a small E bracket on the hud though isn't there? Or have I been looking at something different lol...? I tend to use the AoA indexer though once turning base.
  6. When landing gear is deployed and landing mode is selected on the hud, a small E bracket will show on the hud which moves up and down relative to your attitude, airspeed and power. On downwind you want to maintain 600 feet agl with power, at the same time trim the nose up so the E bracket stabilises on your horizontal "hud wings". Once you achieve this, you are considered "on-speed", your AoA (angle of attack) is optimum for the arresting hook to trap a wire. You now adjust up and down with power, without changing attitude of the aircraft. Hope this helps,
  7. Excellent video again Mav, well done. You make it look so easy and smooth. One question: You emphasised how important trimming the aircraft is. Do you also trim in the horizontal (aileron), especially when the tanker is banking? I find I get laterally unstable as I near the basket. Cheers! Scotch
  8. The way I understand it is it gives you virtually instantaneous response and effect, rather than waiting for the engines to spool up or down then waiting for the glideslope response from the power change. Once you have trimmed for on-speed aoa, activated dlc and adjusted the power to hold glideslope, if you're slightly high - dlc to slightly raise the spoilers (more drag, less lift, plane starts to drop), once you intercept the ball, dlc (spoilers) back to neutral (less drag, increases lift so holds your previous set attitude and glideslope). So I think of it as adjusting higher or lower of neutral instantaneously. I still need a lot more practice to get the feel and touch right. Cheers!
  9. @Victory205 Thank you for your explanation Sir. I totally forgot about using the BDHI, as many have already said on these forums we have been spoilt with the Hornet lol... Also thank you for taking the time to read and respond to our posts, we are very lucky to have you in the forums sharing your knowledge and experience. Cheers!
  10. To add to this Vic rather than start a new thread, once you switch to AWL steer mode from TACAN, is there a way to keep the dme distance somewhere visible for cross-checking? It seems once in AWL/ICLS mode all displays no longer show DME to selected TCN (carrier). Cheers!
  11. I think this is the case. I was practicing the the case 1 instant action today, and after a successful trap, I went to swing the wings back for taxi, nope - spoilers are up. Looked down at that switch mentioned (anti-skid/spoilers/both) and it was on "both" - default set at mission start in the air. So that should be selected "off" for carrier ops. Yes, it activates definitely with weight-on-wheels.
  12. And make sure you have flipped the 4 SAS switches up to activate. IIRC they are linked.
  13. Hey Glyn, I finally finished the campaign. Fantastic work mate, the voice work and background chat made it all very immersive, with a great story line. I made my first successful Case III night trap to top it all off. Cheers [emoji106][emoji898]
  14. Many thanks for the advice guys. One glaring error I've made, as Glyn pointed out, is to use chaff instead of flare. For some reason I had in my mind that SA-8 locks on via radar (hence to rwr tones) to launch, then the guidance was the missile's IR seeker. "Know your enemy" lol... Cheers!
  15. Hey Glyn, Well done on this campaign mate. The scope is fantastic and the voice acting is superb. Everything thing runs silky smooth. My problem is my poor skills/technique. I just can't get past those SA8s ingressing into Gori. I fly very low, fast, jink a little, dump flares, but they still get me. Do you have any tips? Cheers!
  16. Hey many thanks markeebo, I finally got him lol... I was building up my energy ok and forgot about the g limiter. At the critical time I pulled that, and he was toast. Got into a horizontal scissors, and finally got a reactionary guns shot through his right wing. Thanks again for the timely advice, Cheers mate [emoji106]
  17. Hey Folks, Thought I post here as a continuation rather than a new topic. Flying 1v1, me F-18 vs AI F-14A guns only, once we have manoeuvered for a few minutes, he ends up on my tail in lead pursuit. What are some tactics to shake him? Usually we have lost most of our altitude so vertical is no option. Cheers!
  18. @deadlyfishes, Hey deadly, I've reported this on discord as well.... I tried the latest versions of PG and GC, appears auto scripts to spawn enemy are not starting. Also there are no AWACS and Tankers starting (this I fixed by unchecking Late Activation). Definitely no enemy or drones spawning at mission start to give JTAC target status. Cheers!
  19. Hey Folks, Rather than starting a new thread, I was looking for some ssd drive management advice, with the latest OB iteration. Currently I run Win10 (latest build) on Samsung PCIe M.2 C:/ drive. Therefore, DCS puts the Saved Games folder there. I run DCS on my Samsung 850 pro sata 6 SSD E:/ drive. So I assume when playing the sim, it is constantly accessing the Saved Games folder (E: to C:, C: to E:). Would it be feasible to co-locate the Saved Games folder with DCS on E:/, then link this through the Properties/Location tab so it becomes the default? Does it make much difference? Cheers! i5-6600k, asus strix z270 mobo, 32gb ram
  20. Hey Folks, I'm still trying to understands this dedicated server. So as an example, if I wanted to play a mission with a friend, using my pc as the DS would I also be able to play as a client on said mission? Would I need to buy/rent another DCS licence? Cheers!
  21. Wouldn't it be great if there was a tab to download current weather for the map, which would match up with the time in ME.
  22. Sounds like a good explanation, makes sense. So to re-pressurise, do we reset the bleed air as mentioned earlier? Many thanks to all in the discussion [emoji106]
  23. Hey Folks I've searched this forum, Chuck's guide and the NATOPS and could not find anything. Every now an then I get a deedle-deedle advisory "TK PRES LOW". I'm thinking fuel tank pressure low, but is this internal, external or both? It even comes up constantly after I have jettisoned drop tanks. Can anyone explain this please? Many thanks.
  24. @deadlyfishes Hey mate, I noticed on PG and CAUC the kc-130 seems to dive to low level as if it is going defensive when it spawns and cruises near enemy ground forces. Makes it impossible to refuel. Cheers!
  25. I noticed that too when I tried to edit the 476th range mission to put an A-4 client at Nellis. However, it worked when I spawned one at Tonopah [emoji848]
