Why the engine get overheat while slow speed?
bart replied to MivwTaupos's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
There are examples of car engine's that have been adapted for use in aircraft, specifically ultralights and home builds and they have performed really well. It doesn't mean that if you have a 250BHP car engine it can't take full throttle/load for a long period of time however. I think you would be surprised how well engineered a car engine is. They have to pass strict performance and durability checks before they are signed off to be fitted into a vehicle. I've spent the last 21 years working in R&D for road/race engines. We have had engines run at both peak power and peak torque conditions for hundreds of hours on test beds and they have survived. Ok a handful do blow up at times, but you strip it, find out what component failed, update the design and repeat the test. Modern engines are extremely robust, especially the higher performance ones. Ok running it on a test bed is cheating a bit, as we have all the cooling we need to hold a given coolant out temp and pressure, where as in the vehicle it would never see the conditions it would see on the test bed, but the engine would be fine, it's the application it's put in that causes the problems!. What we have here is an engine cooling problem at low airspeeds, and Merlin's were known for this for the reasons stated above, the rads were too small a surface area to give adequate cooling on the ground or low airspeed at high power settings. The same thing applies with car engines too, no forward speed and it would soon overheat. -
DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
bart replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Yup, finally some news on the Mosquito in the newsletter. Cockpit looks great, I wonder how far along the FM is. That's going to be a big task, like ED said it's the first twin engine prop plane they have done. Can't wait to experience it in VR, it's my most awaited module since the Spitfire IX. My late father worked on Mosquito's as an engine fitter during WW2, so there's a bit of a connection there with me too! Got some great old photo's of them taxying out to go on a raid he took during the war. Ok, here's my guess for a release timeline. A few day's before Christmas if we are REALLY lucky, but if I had to put money on it....sometime Q1 2021..... -
Agree with most here.... Please roll back to the old style, It had character, not to mention was much easier on the eyes and straight forward to navigate around. This new forum has none! Why change something that wasn't broke? I bet we don't get the busted Christmas lights on this one either!
-
I have to admit I don't like the new forum setup either. The old format was much easier on the eyes and much much easier to find or go straight to what you wanted. Big step back IMHO. Hope it's just the Beta version like was mentioned above!

As Snoopy said...A10-C II is king in this respect. You have the best of both worlds!

A-10c II Hotas functions Chart for kneeboard
bart replied to VaporFlow's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Just as a follow on from Ziptie's answer above, if you have the HMCS as SOI and then slew the cursor from the centre cross hair it becomes ground stabilised (the open box). To get it back to the crosshairs (boresight it) it's China Hat Aft, which is the control you are asking about. You can tell by the look of the cross hairs in the HMCS whether its bore sighted or not by the cross shape. If it's a Maltese Cross it's bore sighted, if it's just a plain cross the cursor is ground stabilised somewhere. -

Great job  No word on a release date for this yet though :( -
For me I lean towards the A10-C II, got to love that HMCS and the laser rockets. :D

Brilliant  That footage looks stunning and that new GAU-8 sound just tops it off. The Mods should add this video to the FAQ and Updates sticky post. So much to look forward to with the Hog... new gun sounds, new radio to play with and new HOTAS commands on the way. Good job ED. -
That's one way to knock out enemy communication, target all their telephone poles with AGM-65D's! and there's the added bonus that the poles don't shoot back :D

Throttles from Cutoff to Idle not working on cold start
bart replied to Jalava's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I do a similar thing. When spawning in a cold dark jet I have both throttles set to idle, first thing I do is lift them over the idle/cut off detent to the cut off position to synchronise the controls, then leave them there until engine start. Doing this they work first time every time. I do this in all modules I have the idle/cut off mapped to, as the issue is module wide. Once you have moved the throttle to the cut off position DCS knows where the throttle position is then, and it works perfectly after that. -
yes, both short and long fwd seems to work. Slaves all to SPI fwd long, and works for a Maverick FOV, TGP FOV fwd short.
-
Might be worth running a repair just in case any of your files got corrupted. If your switch is working on the throttle ok, then it must be a software thing as I assume it's in the code to recognise long and short push on the China Hat or any other HOTAS control for that matter. If indeed your hardware is working, then it's got to be a code issue?

[REPORTED EARLIER] Release cue missing for CBU-105?
bart replied to andy_j_white's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, I was hoping for a fix for this today. ED have released a hotfix for the Beta branch today but no mention of this in the changelog. :( -
Same here. I'm guessing you mean DMS Long RIGHT not left though!. I either have to slew away from the steerpoint, or put the TGP into Standby, then A/G again which puts it in the boresight position (resets it?) then it will slew to the HMCS crosshair. Bit of a pain when you're in the thick of it and forget to slew or Standby/AG it to get it to work...

I see there's an update today... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=273255 Anyone got the low down?

ED team just turned the Hog from being dangerous to LETHAL in this update. Fantastic work guy's, I'm having an absolute blast with the Hog. As said above, anyone new to the Hog and thinking of purchasing it for the first time, don't hesitate. It's well worth the full price and is a firm benchmark for all other modules to be compared to. It simply is Eagle Dynamics's best, most detailed and realistic modern aircraft module to date, a true study sim and will IMHO take some beating. I can't wait for the talented mission and campaign designers to come up with some new stuff for our new Hog. Thanks ED, you guy's really put out this time. Awesome work

I could have used miles and got it down to $3.30! but I felt guilty so going to buy at full $9.99 :) I'll keep the miles for a more expensive purchase later......
-
I can get it in my cart but that's it. I'm going to leave it for now. On a side note, if you have to go through the purchase again make sure PayPal doesn't bill you twice!
