Its funny in a way. This thread started out with some helpful statements and light banter, then in time it turned into this. I often wonder what drives people to make statements that attempt to put themselves on a pedestal when in reality, they demean themselves.
We always do. VR and 4k pretty much requires them. We however were using a dot mod for quite some time now. I haven't had a chance to try the new implementation given the VR issues.
I'm sure your right. How to do it though, no idea. I know a guy or two in my group would love to drive some Abrams around but it seems to me (and I don't know the stats) that full fidelity tank simmers seems to be an even smaller subset than full fidelity aircraft simmers.
I would think that FC3 level tanks would be the best way to get people in. I might buy an easy to drive tank but its more work than I'm willing to put in to go to a full fidelity.
I doubt I would buy a module.
However, I think it would be an absolutely amazing experience to go in on a target knowing its human controlled. I hope you get your wish because it would certainly affect a lot of us in a positive way.
Of course the real pilots don't use autopilot for tanking so if your goal is to face the same butt puckering situation the people do in reality, practice, practice, practice.
Try using your thumb and two fingers on the joystick right at the base of it. Smaller movements really help with the control or lack of over control.
I place the basket on the HUD navigation carrot and keep it there until I get close to the basket and then do my final attachment looking at the probe and basket. I know other say not to but I've been doing it this way for a long time (we used a Hornet Mod for a couple years). I successfully attach and stay attached every time.
Don't know yet. Its not out to the kickstarter backers yet. (I am one), so it'd be a few months off for sure before it came to the everyone else.
At this time it looks good with a few issues. I expect it'll be worth it.
Camp 1.
I don't know what hans means by having to find the sweet spot for the HUD, I've never done anything more than hit the rift center button once and fly for hours.
I have a triple monitor setup (27") with TrackIR. Haven't used it since I got the rift and moved all my flight sim stuff away from them.
