  1. Have you actually spent some hours with it? after a while, everything feels like its under water when you try to play games without it anymore... it has no effect on film at all, since mainly it decreases latency and blur... what gsync does is just stop the monitor from trying to display two frames on the screen at the same time, something that doesnt' happen in film... do some research before you call it an "effect"... it's more like a regulator, it makes sure the screen is only taking one frame at a time, and displaying that whole frame before the next one, unlike without gsync where the monitor just tries to display all frames at the same time regardless of if theres already a frame half drawn on the screen or not.
  2. Ok so my Asus ROG PG278Q just arrived today, and I gotta say, G-SYNC is awesome, and it's so smooth, it's so nice... I haven't tested it too much yet, but I can compare some things to my benQ GW2765... the PG278Q doesn't have very black blacks, and colours aren't nearly as vibrant as my GW2765, but in every other way, it's better, from what i've seen so far... no tearing is awesome, and seeing things as small as a pixel when the entire scene is shifting around is much MUCH easier with the asus monitor. yeah i'd say totally worth it to have two monitors, one really fast one with gsync, and one with good colour reproduction, one good for games, one good for everything else. I'm glad i got my BenQ monitor first. well... that's if your hobby is playing games. Now im just waiting for a EVGA FTW or classified 1080, and I'm set.
  3. Or use an adapter, HDMI and DVI are the same, just different connectors, and displayport can be converted into hdmi or dvi
  4. your new monitor takes too long to boot up, by the time it does, windows is booting, that's what this sounds like... instead, just spam the key to get into your bios the second you turn your computer on, and you'll be in the bios by the time your monitor boots up...
  5. I don't have 6DOF at all, my view is centered, but only 2DOF....
  6. So far from what's been leaked, the RX 480, falls somewhere around the 980 in performance and costs a lot less...
  7. lol every time i start to get used to how things are with the mig-21, they change again, keeps me on my toes... but if the choice is between knowing how the plane is currently modled, and having the plane modled more accurately, I'll choose more accuracy every time.
  8. The problem with TVs is the input lag, some TVs have 100ms or more input lag, in other words, you press a button on your joystick, the thing happens on the computer, but you don't see it on the screen for a noticeable amount of time... where this is fine for things like solitare, for a first person shooter or flight sim, any delay between what you do, and what you see on screen, can make it unplayable, or very frustrating...\ that's why computer monitors are so much more expensive, as they are specifically designed for low motion blur and low latency.. TVs are designed for pre-recorded things, where they can just sync the audio with the video, and it doesn't matter how long it takes for the picture to actually appear on screen, so long as the framerate is good... feel bad for console gamers... your TV might be fine... http://www.displaylag.com/
  9. Yeah I wouldn't upgrade from a 980ti to a 1080... I have a 780 refrence, skipped the 980ti, was always >< this close to buying it... but the extra 10-25% or so performance of the 1080 over the 980ti puts me over the edge as to FINALLY having a videocard with enough performace to bother with... the 1080 will more than double my framerates, the 980ti won't. and now that i'm a proud owner of this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236405 ...well... (sale ends on the 22nd btw)
  10. if the pump fails, no trouble, there's still enough cooling for you to use your machine long enough to order a new cooler or pump. and cpus shut down on their own if they overheat now, it's not like back in 1998...
  11. the difference between being allowed to do something, and being allowed to do something for free lol freedom of speech is the former... isn't that one of americas things? "freedom isn't free"? lol
  12. I think you're hitting the limits of what can be done with current hardware.
  13. very nice!
  14. oh cool! may buy 2nd 1080. DCS new motto "Making intel and nvidia rich"
  15. does it work in 1.5? 2.0 only has the nevada map... do we expect 1.5 and 2.0 to merge sometime soon™? good advice is to know that 1GPU will always work, 2GPUs won't, so it's better to have 1 really good gpu rather than two not as good ones, and only SLI for the boost it gives you in games it actually works with... unless your goal is to extend the life of the 1 card you already have... then hope the games you play actually show improvement with sli, and no graphics glitches, or game crashes... or at least have that mindset, so you're not angry that you have a 600$ paperweight when you're playing games that don't support sli.
  16. Dcs is single GPU only... reason 1 good card is better than 2 less good cards, 1 card works, lots of games don't work with 2, or are less stable with 2. To me, sli is all about extra performance if you actually play games it works well with, but still build around single gpu, add the 2nd just because you can. So If I had the choice (I do, and have pre-ordered a 1080)I'd go with a 1080 over two 1070s, one card just works, never sure if sli will, so then I know I'm getting my money's worth.
  17. The corsair's good at medium and low altitudes, the r2800 engine works better with a supercharger, can think of the corsair's like an underpowered p47 with better slow speed handling, since it doesn't have the convoluted supercharger setup the p47 has.
  18. When talking about bandwidth, as in... the bandwidth of an HDMI or display port, or network, its bits. When talking about storage, how much space something has, it's bytes. the smallest amount of space it takes for one text character.
  19. An i5 at 4.5 ish is fine, but with a cpu like that, not having a 980ti or a 1070/80 is almost sacrilege so I think that's what he meant by save your money.
  20. 1/3 true... the most optimized game in the world will run like crap with a bad gpu is the 2nd, and the best GPU with the most optimized game will run bad if there's a bottleneck anywhere else, so having the best gpu money can buy solves 1 problem of many.
  21. If the cpu becomes unstable, it can cause freezes w/o bsod, but it would have to be right on the edge, and you'd still get lots of crashes, yeah.
  22. PG278Q is 900$ CDN, i have 1100 to spend, for my price limit, this seems to be the best choice, I'm unwilling to spend near 2000$ for a computer screen...
  23. lifetime warrenty on a videocard is like asking for a warrenty on a cheeseburger... eventually it becomes crap, literally in a cheesburgers case, or it gets old, and not useful... lifetime warrenty makes sense on a lawnchair, it doesn't get obsolite over time, it becomes no less useful with age... another way to look at it is... 4 years is a long time to use a high end videocard, if you're still using a 1080 in 4 years, you're probably going to be upgrading to something new soon, unless you're looking for a second-hand videocard, and/or are still using a 970 or a 780, then a 1080 will be a nice upgrade... don't think i'd get a 1080 if i had a 980 or 980ti...
  24. they're going down in price here, there's some for less than 900$ CDN now, they used to be all around 970CDN... the market is going crazy, prices all over the place...
