  1. Hey all. I'm really glad that ED have added various font scale options into the graphics menu, would it be possible for those options to include settings below 1.0, And possibly also include the messages you get on a lot of the big online servers. Currently in VR on servers like Blue Flag you can end up with message strings that cover a large portion of your visibility. Thankfully there is a mod for this, but I have to apply it after every patch, It would be great if the font size of these messages could also be in the options menu and critically give us the option to set them SMALLER then 1.0. So incriments down to 0.25 or something would be great. Mod Discussion:
  2. I fly exclusively in VR and I use the pilot body in every aircraft I can, and I have an easily accessable stick binding to show/hide it. In VR I find it adds to the immersion greatly, and TBH I can't wait till the A-10 and F-16 and (hopefully) the F-14 get it too.
  3. Yep.. Although if the Blk40 was done after the Blk 50 was finished those would all be present as they are planned for the Viper eventually anyway.
  4. It’s also not currently possible to “Over-G” anything else on the jet (or the F-18 for that matter) I’m hoping G limits for all stores (including T-pod) to come in the future.
  5. One of the main reason they don’t just lower the nose and jump on the brakes IRL is also because of how punishing it is to the brakes. We don’t have to deal with overheating brakes or wheels blowing their fuse plugs as you taxi clear of the runway. Aerobraking is “free”. if DCS modelled brake temps and blown tyres from overheating brakes then aerobraking would be a no brainer.
  6. It’s going to get work, they’ve said it’ll get work. Just going to have to be patient.
  7. Autopilot wasn’t a factor with the times I’ve seen it.
  8. I actually enjoy aligning my Mavs, but then again I'm also the kind of weirdo who likes turbulent crosswind night ILS approaches in cloud down to minimums lol... Sooooo I'm probably not normal
  9. Can't check right now but I know its very small, low single digits. You can tune it and find something that feels nice.
  10. Phew.. I'm not going crazy then. lol. It might fly a bit better with it at -12
  11. Ah.. they must have changed it. That's great lol.
  12. I'm using a Warthog grip as well. So no idea... Just to confirm you pull back and left and the Red dot moves down the black line in the middle, correct?
  13. Huh.. Perhapse they changed it with the newest drivers?
  14. Yes Rotation wants to be -12, not +12. +12 will mean youll need to pull back and right to get pure pitch command rather than back and left (towards your body). In the FSSB Software the Black lines are showing you the final output. And grey lines are showing you the raw data coming from the sensor. I agree its not intuitive. Also IMPORTANT tip that I rememberred, turn BFA Roll and Pitch to OFF and then instead use a small deadzone in DCS to add a small breakout force around the centre. The reason for this is that BFA is applied BEFORE the axis gets rotated, instead of after. Which actually fights against you getting pure pitch or roll inputs.
  15. Why, praytell did you decide to reply to a old unrelated post and not start a new one with your question? Anyway. I don't believe there is a plan to make refueling artificially easier, it's difficult for a reason, because its also difficult IRL. What stick/throttle have you got? Then I can offer mode advice regarding curves. The biggest suggestion would be to simply practice your formation flying if you want to make refueling easier, its the same skill.
  16. I use the red button on the back of the left hand warthog throttle as my "Shift" and I have bound all the stick controls to do other things with that pressed down. CMS for instance does this: Forward = F1 View Backwards = F10 Map Left = F2 External View Right = F6 Released Weapon Shift-first stage trigger resets my VR centre position Shift pinky button toggles lables Shift DMS is all kneeboard controls (hide/show, next previous etc) Shift MSL Step brings up or hides the Breifing, Surprisingly handy when your're trying to find a freq. Shift TMS UP/Down are the two top left MFD buttons on the left MFD, just so I can cycle radar range quickly in TWS mode, or change the zoom on the HSD, depending on what I have there. Shift TMS Right/Left is the ICP steerpoint rocker ip/down, so I can quickly cycle between steerpoints. Shift Trim hat left/right does rudder trim as well. There are a few ideas. NOTE: apart from the TMS bindings these shift controls are the same across all my modules so they are second nature to me. Really help in VR I find.
  17. Something like a violent pitch oscilation could certainly be the result from a frozen over pitot system on a FBW aircraft like the F-16. The FLCS needs airspeed data to know what part of the flight envilope its in, and what gains to use, in order to be able to control the aircraft. This was the crash of the X-31 caused by the exact same issue. Great video which is worth watching in its entirity, but skip on to 15:45 for particularly relevent bit. Although In all likelyhood the F-16 would have some kind of failure mode and reversion to a more conservative FBW state if it sensed a pitotstatic issue. The other thing I'd like to mention is that I thought the pitot heat system in the Blk 50 was always active once the WOW switch was released on takeoff and that the cockpit switch is mearly for pitot heat on the ground prior to takeoff and pitot system testing. I've been flipping it to on just before takeoff anyway because it seems to help avoid issues. But my knowledge of the real jet from reading various -1s was that as soon as WOW was released then the pitot heat system was switched on, but I don't know if that applies to the USAF Blk50s Perhapse @FoghornF16 could chime in on this?
  18. I run zero curves and it feels good to me, and felt pretty good to my brother (who used to fly the RDAF F-16AM) when he tried it, although I have my force levels turned down a bit in the stick software, (7.2lb roll, 13lb pitch). Also remember if you're using a side-stick setup you want the 12 degree rotation as per the real stick. So you want to set -12 degrees in the FSSB software. This rotates all the axis around clockwise slightly so to pull pure pitch you just pull your hand towards your body, not "aft" towards the back of the aircraft. Sounds weird but feels totally natural for side stick. The FSSB software also allows to set different full deflection forces for left and right roll (NASA Roll Sensibility), Most people are much stronger rolling left than they are right, so adjusting the number higher makes it easier to roll right to compensate, I adjusted mine until full deflection in both directions felt about the same and the setting I like is 140% but your mileage my vary. Hope that's useful. Attached is pic of F-16 12deg stick rotation btw.
  19. I doubt we wil see it on the Block 50. But I'd love to see a Block40/42 with the WAR HUD and all the TFR bells and whistles. - AFTER the Blk 50 is done, of course. I'd happily throw more money at ED for it as well.
  20. Nahh... aerobraking is more fun specially in a crosswind. Thanks for you input about holding the right AoA.
  21. Again, does this usually happen in cold missions? There seems to be something up with the probe heat not working on occasions, which messes up the FLCS and results in the oscilations.
  22. Foghorn, Does the real aircraft hold an aerobrake attitude by itself once you've got it to where you want it? Currently in the sim we need to keep increasing pitch input to hold the correct aerobraking AoA, But I've heard from various places that the real jet kinda stays where you put it in that ragard, any input on the matter?
  23. Is Inverted Pitch Hangup hangup modelled in the FM at the moment anyway? I haven't noticed it.
  24. Weapon wise, as already pointed out the CBU-97 is great fun, and tbh pretty OP against stationary armour lol. You can carry 10 on the Viper and unlike the A-10 you actually have the speed to be able to sling them a fair distance when you toss bomb, so they can be used in a "standoff" capability. Surprisingly good for taking out sam sites if you're feeling brave lol. They are dumb unguided cluster munitions so they are effected by wind and your release precision but we should get the precision guided version of this weapon, the CBU-105 which will home in on a GPS coordinate like a JDAM. Although I don't know how many we will be able to carry, as they may require different racks. The Viper will get the HTS or Harm Targetting System which is a seperate pod that sits under the chin intake and will allow for much better ability to sniff out and locate enemy radar sites for the HARM missile, this will be unique to the Viper. Aircraft wise they are totally different really. The Hornet doesn't mind getting slow, It has AOA for days and plenty of nose authority, The Viper you need to keep above 350 in a turn fight otherwise you'll get into your AOA limit and stop turning. IMHO the Cockpit in the Viper offers the best seat in the house, Nothing quite matches the bowless canopy, specially in VR. The Hornet of course has carrier ops which is a whole thing in itself. Apart from the carrier ops side of things I find flying the Viper more engaging from a Take-off and Landing point of view. you pretty much just fly the Hornet into the runway without flaring, select ground idle, airbrake out and hit the brakes. Nailing a landing and following aerobrake in the Viper is much trickier (specially in a crosswind!) and is much more satisfying to me. It has ILS (something the Hornet doesn't have for land bases at least) So you can shoot low visibility ILS approaches in it, which the masochistic side of me really enjoys lol. Air to Air refueling is different on both, the Navy uses probe and drogue which has its own challenges, but the Viper with the receptical being behind the pilot means when you're really close to the undeside of the tanker when on the boom, which you will be doing quite often. Again, I like the challenge of AAR in the Viper. You're right about the HOTAS, for me the Viper system just makes a lot more sense and its not quite correct in DCS yet, but I'm sure they will get there. I LOVE the dogfight/missile override swtich on the Throttle, the ability to quickly flick from AG mode to AA mode and back again when you need to is invaluable in some situations, the Hornet feels clunky by comparison. Undoubtably the F-16 is still very WIP, I'd even say I wouldn't blame you if you held off for a while and picked it up later when it was more finished, but it is early access so that's to be expected. Its currently waiting for all the AG radar modes, Mark point integration, a better working HSD, and a few other little things. There are some flight model refinements coming and I really hope we get a pilot that can sustain 9G for more than 2 secs soon so we can actually use the F-16s agility at high speed. I fly it on the reg and really enjoy it for what it is, but its definitely WIP, If that kind of stuff frustrates you then perhapse the Hornet would be a better bet at least right now. I also really enjoy Carrier ops with the Super Carrier and the F-18. Its great seeing the deck crew running around and returning to the boat after the mission is really satifying. Get both!
  25. They sould post about aerobrake mode here in the forum, I hadn't heard about that.
