It features in yet another Wags Viper vids… must surely be close given the airtime
-
Optimistic on this one… out of a list of “keenly awaited modules” this now seems like the most likely to drop - South Atlantic - Mirage F1 - F4U-1D Corsair - MB-339 any or all would be fantastic… (ETA - list order doesn’t indicate preference or expected release date)
-
I also suspect that ED core changes can provide a curve ball to the 3rd party devs… didn’t ED revise the DCW:WW2 damage modelling and effects during the time period referenced? (I vaguely remember M3 stating that they wouldn’t be able to use the new WW2 DM…)
-
… and there’s me thinking Black Buck
-
From what I’ve read it depended on what squadron made the reports Seems like Hermes’ pilots didn’t work out how to use the Shar’s A2A capability, especially Blue Fox… whereas Sharkey Ward’s squadron on Invincible perfected Shar A2A tactics (pre Falklands) and did very well either way c’mon Raz get the FRS.1 done… I’m sure there are some “assumptions” on the other modern units

Absolutely stunning

released Why hasn't the South Atlantic map been released yet?
rkk01 replied to huchanronaa's topic in South Atlantic
@skouras posted in this sub that he had made another teaser vid… but that release (of the vid) was up to the devs @Raz_Specter has also posted “watch this space”… -
That’s some incredibly complex geometry going on there…! Great to see the systems so faithfully modelled - even more amazing to think that the original design engineers and draughtsmen worked it all up on paper…

"We are aware of the potential of converting some of our projects to DCS..."

Hhmmm, that might even tempt me to get civvysim -
Always interesting to I-spy the icons along the bottom

The whole gist of this thread seems pretty harsh - there’s nothing that even comes close to the DCS: Warbirds modelling and “feel” Yes, there’s still plenty to do, but ED do appear to be making steady and real progress Most desired fix for me is AI gunnery accuracy. You could probably attack a VIIC, S-Boat of assault transport with an F-16 at full A/B and still get shredded

Yes, Blue Fox = FRS.1 Blue Vixen = FA2 Was just going on what I remember from the audio…(Blue Vixen is referenced at circa 19:40) either way, blocked by UK MOD security classification
-
I’d have to listen through again first Q after the intros is “when”… I interpreted response as “soon”… actual Raz response was that they were selecting the build for submission to ED Despite being audio only, if is worth listening through - covers assets likely to come with the map, possible (commercially undecided) standalone asset pack, AI aircraft and timing of potential full flyable modules In particular, the discussion of flyable modules confirms that it is UK Security Classification around the Blue Vixen radar that has stalled the Sea Harrier FRS.1, although it sounds like we may get a flyable GR.3…! (Apparently the AV8B NA was initially planned as a GR.5 or GR.7…!)
-
Then there’s the question of addition variants of existing modules - Spitfire I, V, Seafire, 109 E, F, G, for example… or entirely new modules that bring a different angle to DCS (as the Mosquito has) I’d love to see the Spitfire V / 109F matched up in DCS, or a Mosquito B.IV / IX…. But a P-38, Beaufighter TF.X, or dare I say an Me-262 would do more to expand the existing experience as would a CVE with a squadron of F4F and TBM / TBF

rkk01 replied to huchanronaa's topic in South Atlantic
Aaaarrrgggghhhhhh….NOOOO This is NOT the case - and very frustrating every time it is posted There is no UK Harrier in DCS, save a few skins for the US AV8B NA - a ground attack version operated by USMC (AFAIK) Falklands needs a Sea Harrier FRS.1, primarily a fleet air defence FIGHTER. The RAF also operated the Harrier GR3 in the Falklands conflict - in the ground attack role. It might not be known to many, but along with the F-15, the Sea Harrier is one of the very few jets with an unblemished A2A kill:loss ratio -
Fascinating stuff… … is there guidance on how to employ these assets in DCS? Pleased to see the Cobra Ball variants included - read through a really interesting set of web pages about Shemya AFB and the Rivet Ball predecessor to the Cobra Ball aircraft. The (publicly released…) history of Shemya, Rivet Ball and Rivet Amber is fascinating and sobering - dark times, black operations… http://www.rc135.com/0000/INDEX.HTM

WW2 birds are a good setup to test AI “radar eyes”… I spent a while trying to simulate Nachtjagd Ops on the Normandy map - flying Wilde Sau in the Anton Fantastically atmospheric, searchlights, bombers, flak barrages, moon and clouds to dodge between Always tried to approach bombers from below and behind - dark ground beneath me and lit up sky to silhouette the bombers… but these things clearly aren’t simulated in DCS, which is pretty disgraceful given the authenticity claims attached to this sim… I was using labels for night Ops () so had perfect intel on range - the furthest a B-17 gunner opened up on me was 6,000m and the fire was perfectly accurate causing mission ending engine damage Let’s be honest here - 6km, accurate fire, night time, day fighter sized target… that’s utter nonsense I suspect the code works on the basis that your simulated x, y, z, coords are continuously computed and the AI “gunners” have this as a continuously known aiming point.. This approach to AI fire might have been acceptable for DCS’s Cold War / Modern roots, with radar guided AAA, but is nonsense for WW2 setting
-
Interesting on the engine start and management… @Scoobyon does the Lanc have a workaround for the DCS 2 engine limitation? Or have you found a way to have four Merlins all roaring along independently???!
-
Well, hopefully we will have to Corsair pretty soon Although Wildcat / Martlet and Avenger would be the classic pairing for a CVE

released Why hasn't the South Atlantic map been released yet?
rkk01 replied to huchanronaa's topic in South Atlantic
Nope we don’t have the Harrier… and Raz have said they aren’t prioritising So, the most important aircraft of them all (for this theatre) is likely years away - after: - F-15E - MiG-23 - Super Tucano -

Neither of which are Raz products though… I could understand if people thought we were waiting for the Pucara or SHAR… but best not given likely timescale on those same for the naval assets - issue the map when it’s playtime… 1982 asset pack can come later -

???? Genuinely curious… -
I’d have thought gen 3-4 mid to late Cold War…? Tornado, Jaguar, F-104, F-111 etc
-
I don’t know about release dates - too much of a hostage to fortune… but we really are missing much in the way of pipeline or roadmap at the moment. To me, there seems to be very little visibility on post AH-64 ED modules… has ED subbed out module development? Most pipeline visibility is currently based on 3rd party devs… WW2 - Marianas is the only ED content I can think of Corsair is the only aircraft (IIRC???) and that’s M3 Jets - anything ED??? There’s no forum subs for ED jets not already on release. F1, MB-339, F-4, Typhoon, F-15E, MiG-23 are all 3rd party Helos - same…? Two 3rd party projects, no ED projects???
