  1. Seems like I shouldn’t worry much… Project Lancaster have all the best fireworks accounted for
  2. How low can you go??? As kids we used to watch the Phantoms and Buccs at the (then) annual Navy Days - always a highlight The Buccaneer Red Flag videos are always worth a Google Holy Hell… Would need the Ark, of course…
  3. 809s aircraft and aircrew were divided up between 800 on Hermes and 801 on Invincible. I think the COs wanted uniformity and compliance. The 809 NAS Phoenix tail badges were painted out, but the light grey scheme and low vis roundels couldn’t be changed at sea
  4. @Scoobyon - that has absolutely made my day - and I dare say I’m not alone so - is that a Grand Slam, Tallboy, Cookie, incendiary dispenser AND an Upkeep…?!!!
  5. As a major player in NATO throughout the Cold War… with a reputation for top notch aircrew training, homegrown and European aircraft collaborations and a good few Red Flag scalps - there really should be a strong case for more UK (and Euro) assets in DCS. It helps our European Allies that there are really good devs in Europe, but are we really lacking the will or homegrown dev community in the UK…? Security classification of older aircraft seems to be a hurdle whatever subject matter is considered - but with first hand experience operators getting older by the year I’d say now is very much the right time to get a selection of Cold War workhorses into DCS… Where do we start? Venom / Vampire, Hunter, Lightning, Canberra, Harriers, any Vs (although Vulcan always steals the limelight…), Buccaneer, RR powered Phantoms, Jaguar, Tornado, Lynx… (and that’s a short list…)
  6. Well, we now have Port Stanley and Mount Pleasant to fly UK Phantoms from… (although I have to say, that runway at Port Stanley looks pretty short and narrow…! And I was using the Mosquito FB.VI for my sightseeing )
  7. Those skins look lovely Just read Harrier 809 and the discussions around the 809 NAS Barley Grey / Light Sea Grey FRS.1s delivered to the Task Force by Atlantic Conveyor. Seems that the light grey Harriers didn’t go down well with the 800 and 801 COs…! For more legacy Sea Harrier posts and likelihood of a Razbam FRS.1, See here. Would be good to get an FRS.1 at some point - seems like the AV-8B / Harrier II lacked the thrust : weight and acceleration of the Sea Harrier
  8. Certainly does - Makes you wonder how / if us Brits could get anything more modern than a Spitfire or Mosquito I know I have gone on about a relative who was with 100 Group 214 Squadron. All of their activities were deeply classified until 20-30 years after he passed away. From what I’ve read I believe that the EW / RCM kit carried and the detail of their operations is still classified or sketchy at best (probably classified and then lost to the mists of time). I think the justification was that the ABC kit formed the basis of the V Bomber ECM suite…? Sadly it seems like the same mentality prevails regarding obsolete equipment and I fear that details of Blue Fox may disappear with the folks who developed and operated it From the info linked though, it seems like Blue Vixen was a really capable piece of kit - no chance of a FA.2….!
  9. Interested in the loadout limitations that might apply to the Lancaster within DCS… My understanding is that ED control weapons / ordnance available within DCS??? Clearly the Lancaster justifies some bigger bombs than the 500lbs bombs the Allied WW2 aircraft are currently limited to. I’m specifically thinking of the 4,000lbs Cookie and 12,000lbs Tallboy. There are real world Op Crossbow Lancaster / Tallboy targets on the Channel map, and with South Atlantic making a good “Norway”, we could also use a Tallboy or two in the fjords… (I’d happily forgo the RL Lanc mods that were applied to get the Tallboy airborne )
  10. … and what’s wrong with that… South Atlantic provides a great “Norwegian” setting, and Tirpitz and other German naval assets are available thanks to the very active modding community. BUT, the Allied warbirds are limited to 500lbs bombs (at least the German aircraft have the 500kg bombs available) The in development Lancaster mod looks great and could certainly benefit from heftier ordnance, especially in respect of “Norway” and Tirpitz…!
  11. Radar vid - looks like progress A2G
  12. rkk01

    Radar functions

    Radar vid online now… A2G
  13. Thanks @Gierasimov… I’d been using PrtScrn but wondered if there were any more sophisticated tools such aperature and exposure etc
  14. Can anyone please direct me to camera and video tools??? Like most sims, I’m guessing there must be a set of image capture tools…
  15. Ok, as a quick update… … seems like it was an issue with a DCS naval asset mod that was causing DCS to hang - not the SA map or Mossie / Port Stanley combo… have now flown around the Falklands and the Patagonian fjords in the Mossie, and am very impressed. Amazed how large the Falklands alone are. The barren landscape is excellently done, gives a real feel of wilderness flying that the other maps don’t get close to. The textures and colour palette really do the ground justice. Felt like flying over Dartmoor As far as the fjords are concerned, yes the terrain mesh and texturing will benefit from future EA work, but hunting ships in the steep narrow fjords is challenging and really immersive. This part of the map really is like Norway. Got shredded by Prinz Eugen and Z39 in one fjord. Mossie is the perfect fit aircraft for this map. Just need some WW2 era transports to provide a target rich environment
  16. Won’t run for me At least not with the Mossie from Port Stanley… not sure if it’s that combo or not Game loads, but then freezes as soon as you enter the cockpit - will set up a few other missions in ME and see if choice of aircraft / start locn / altitude makes any difference
  17. Interesting topic
  18. Reading Harrier 809 at the mo - provides a better insight into the comparative capabilities of the FRS.1 and GR.3, and their crews, compared to the Shar pilot memoirs. Blue Fox as a search radar to aid intercept - yes, with FC from the ships… … but also providing gunsight HUD reticle / aim point, which the GR.3 didn’t have (and that the RAF crews in Shars weren’t as familiar with???)
  19. OK so I know this is one of the most contentious issues on the forum… … but, the release of Raz’s South Atlantic map has totally changed the landscape* The distances are huge. To do the map justice we should be able to fly long missions, but the interruptions of real life really will kick in on this map. I hope to fly “Norwegian” shipping raids using the Mossie, but using the Falklands as “Scotland” is probably going to require a 2-hour inbound flight *pun intended
  20. Agreed - and not just for ships… will be interesting to see how the 60s and 70s systems perform when the Raz assets join the map FWIW, a former neighbour was on HMS Brilliant. After the then state of the art Sea Wolf malfunctioned he was tasked with improvising additional air defences for the ship… supposedly upside down office chairs attached to the guardrail with a GPMG attached to the legs swivel
  21. Was hoping to use Pebble Island for a staging point before refuelling my Mossie for the flight across to the fjords… or anywhere else on the islands of W Falklands… … but that does look quite small OTH, that’s a very long flight inbound
  22. Raz have a number of models in their Facebook photos folder… these are obviously very early models - but show the intention IIRC the Round Table class LSLs and Fearless / Intrepid LPDs were “possibles”
  23. @BIGNEWY @NineLine 500lbs feels a little underwhelming right now
  24. OK - fixed… anything I had loaded before wasn’t being recognised. Activating “Scharnhorst” in the installed tab brought the whole squadron back anyway, here’s why; “Lonely Queen of the North”
