  1. I don’t recall exactly, but what I often do if I think I missed some dialog or story and don’t want to replay the mission is track down a YouTube video of the mission and just skip ahead to the missed parts:
  2. While I do appreciate everyone’s input, to clarify what I am asking, and what I am not asking: I am not asking the devs to re-open the flight model if they feel it is in the finished state. I am asking if they believe it is in the finished state or if they plan to do further tweaking. That’s all I’m asking. Again, I do appreciate the input but it is an answer, from the devs, to my question that I seek. I know they are dedicated to a detailed and accurate flight model and if they state, in their professional opinion, the FM is finished and accurate, that’s cool with me. The rest of the info was merely background. Unfortunately in the BFM community there isn’t enough downside to the jammed flaps in relation to the benefits gained to dissuade the vast majority of players from doing it. I’d like to see it change but if it’s accurate, I guess it is what it is. Cheers all.
  3. I wish it were as simple as using energy tactics though. Even in a hornet or viper, with 250kts energy surplus, the flapping tomcat is able to stay inside your turn and spiral up without stalling out, where it should bleed speed and stall. Of course one can extend away, build turning room, and come back for a face shot, but my point being that it seems to benefit from greatly increased lift at low speed and AoA without sufficient drag penalty. However, with only my rudimentary understanding of aerodynamics leading me to believe it generates too much lift at low speed, managing to do so with low AoA and drag, I can’t say it’s modelled incorrectly. I trust the devs if they say they feel it’s flushed out appropriately. Just so folks understand where I’m coming from, here is an example. I pushed this situation intentionally to see if he could follow. Spiral up started under 5000ft, went up to 15,000. I initiated it when he was stalled out over the top of a loop, 100kts while I was over 400. He managed to roll out of the loop and spiral up with me, maintaining a better turn rate and tighter radius, with similar AoA, and still managed to accelerate nose high. I mean, if this is correct, I have no data to refute it, just that he’s generating a ton of lift (indicated by climb and turn rate), at low speed and low AoA. Just feels off aerodynamically. But once again, if the devs feel it’s correct, I got nothing to refute it. Just curious if it was on the list to look at or not. To clarify as well, dude was an awesome tomcat driver, I’m not trying to take anything away from him. I’m not sharing this to analyze the tactics as I’ve said above I pushed the situation for testing purposes.
  4. Thx for your reply. I’m not sure I fully follow as I don’t understand where engine performance comes into it, but if I am following correctly, you consider the flap down flight performance to be correct and finished?
  5. Potentially opening Pandoras box here…. But regarding flaps. Is the flight model “finished” regarding flaps down usage above the limits? I’m not referring to the flap jamming logic (which I support). More asking if the aircraft’s performance with flaps down (and jammed) is an area yet to be addressed. I ask because it has become extremely common on BFM servers for Tomcats to simply drop the flaps, let them jam, and just fly that way the whole fight. This gives the aircraft a massive rate and radius advantage, and doesn’t seem to impair it except in ability to get above 400kts. It gets much much more stable at high AoA, even kind of starts to feel like it’s on rails, and can sustain high AoA for long periods of time. I’ve tried it myself for testing purposes, and the general impression I’m left with is it feels a bit too “easy,” almost like it suddenly acquired fly by wire. The FM doesn’t feel like it’s up to the same (awesome) detail and complexity as it does in the normal envelope. If this is the case it’s entirely understandable, as I’m sure you guys want to focus on detailing the normal envelope first, but it makes me wonder if it’s planned to tighten up this regime or not. Thx!
  6. I have had this problem since the 2.8 update dropped.
  7. I’ve found that hi trajectory tends to loft it too high, so the laser spot is below the seeker field of view. Try lo or direct and see if it works. If this is the problem, maybe there is an issue with hi trajectory? I’m not sure but if you have a point selected as acquisition source, is the hellfire supposed to inertially guide to that general area or not? If so, it should point down and see the laser. If not, that would explain why it sails over. TL;DR - I’ve seen this a lot with hi trajectory. Especially when as close at 6km, try lo or direct.
  8. I’m much happier now. I still have a bad stutter issue on one specific multiplayer server, but I’m beginning to suspect it’s a scripting issue on their end. I can’t figure why it’s only an issue for me though. My FPS on that server is extremely low, I can’t figure out why. As for the motion stutter, locking FPS at 45 using Radeon Chill was the ticket. This locks me at half refresh, which greatly smooths out the experience, even without reprojection. My old chip couldn’t maintain above that 45, but the 5800X3D is giving me 60, which put me right in the middle between refresh and half refresh. That’s why it didn’t feel smoother!
  9. Anyone able to realistically complete Mission 12? I'm no Maverick but I know what I'm doing well enough... But with the threats in the target area, and the weather pushing me down right into the threat band for all the SAMs and AAA, I can't even get close to the target. Finally got taken out by an SA8 that's impossible to avoid if you plan to hit the target. Plus my wingman broke off well before the IP to go full LEEEROY JENKINS!!!!! on the target, well ahead of the CAP and SEAD.... predictably he didn't last long haha Edit: Got it second time around, this time the SA8 wasn't a problem. Did my bomb run with tracers whizzing by all sides, felt like that scene in Flight of the Intruder. And BIG THANKS for the skip to push option, I absolutely love it. I've long lamented the lack of a save game feature in DCS, as it's a tough pill to fly an hour to the target and get shot down, and have to re-do all that just to get back to that point. Skip to push is a wonderful elegant workaround. Love it!
  10. Hey, am I nuts or in mission 12 are you landing with a tailwind? It felt AFU, and when I checked mission editor, I think there's a tailwind on final! Ugliest approach I've ever flown
  11. Thx for the info all. I need to do some more testing now in heavy missions, I’ll probably be happier when I see the gains there. I tried reproduction, but it was very wonky, and had a ton of artefacts. I need more testing there to see if I can get it looking half decent…
  12. Well I think I’m in the minority, but colour me disappointed. I seem to have the opposite experience from others. Stepping up from my 3900X, I’m seeing a decent increase in frame rates, but the experience feels unchanged. Instead of micrstutters at 40fps, now I have microstutters at 60fps. What I was most hoping to solve is a very stuttery / jittery view when looking sideways flying low level, especially in Syria. While my FPS number is definitely higher, it doesn’t feel any better. It still stutters and jitters. I may look at returning the processor. I didn’t pay this much just to say I had a 30% increase in FPS. I want a better visual experience and I’m not seeing any difference there.
  13. Sweet! Just picked up the chip, will install tomorrow. I’m already on the latest BIOS, as it gave me resizable BAR on my 3900X too. Looking forward to smoothing out the stutters on the low end.
  14. As yesterday’s news shows we are probably still a year out from the multi core engine, and it sounds like it will still only use a small number of cores initially, I pulled the trigger on an X3D finally. Thankfully my local store must have just gotten a shipment because they had stock for the first time in awhile. This should last me until the engine comes out next year, after which I’ll look at a new build. Quite amazing, my current build started out in 2017(!) with a Ryzen 1700X and 1080ti. Now I’m going onto my third processor and already upgraded the card to a 6800 XT last year, all on the same original motherboard. Kudos to AMD for AM4’s longevity and upgradeability!
  15. Following. Which frame time line is for which? I *think* green is GPU, and white is CPU?
  16. I see the guard police were out in full force for Mission 8 Edit: Question on Mission 8 though. Both my harpoons hit, and I destroyed both boghammers, and landed on the boat, but only got 60 score. I did take one round from a boghammer but had no damage so I chose to continue mission and RTB normally. Does getting hit cost you points?
  17. Yeah in Canada they are pretty much sold out across the board from major retailers. Just resellers have them now, at inflated prices.
  18. Thanks for your assistance, but I’m not going to re-fly a 2hr campaign mission that I already completed (crash happened on RTB after mission completion, as is the usual). I’ve already spent far too much of my time troubleshooting this bug, I’m moving on
  19. Interesting… it presented identically to the freeze bug we are discussing here. You sure this is the cause of the crash, and not something secondary? No one else has reported this bug in the Bold Cheetah thread. If it’s a bugged mission others should be seeing it too.
  20. This is getting extremely frustrating. I can't do anything in this game right now. Had to shelve Raven One, started Bold Cheetah, it was fine until mission 4, now I've experienced the same on that campaign. So I guess I'll shelve that campaign too. I'm running out of content that actually WORKS. Here's another log. dcs.log
  21. Great work! This thing rivals paid campaigns. You are truly a saint for making this available for free. Quick minor note - On mission 4, the push time in the kneeboard is :20, but I think it's supposed to be :30, as I was all alone when I pushed at :20! The voiceovers started and the AI started doing their tasks at :30.
  22. OK fair enough! There is some chatter that Heatblur may be making progress. Let’s hope….
  23. Another data point, Raven One Dominant Fury Mission 8 froze on RTB, almost exactly 40NM from mother. Very consistent with the previous crashes I've had. Log attached (Open Beta 2.8) dcs.log
