On a positive note: I'm getting WAY better performance on board the Supercarrier in 2.7! This is a good thing because overall performance for me in 2.7 is degraded.

Water is too dark and horrible
wilbur81 replied to Fabiano-VIKING's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
I think that the worst thing about the water in 2.7 is the fact that, arguably, it looks worse than 2.5.6... but comes at a higher FPS cost. "If it ain't broken..." -

Most of the visuals (especially the water) that changed took a step backwards in my opinion in 2.7. The new clouds are amazing for sure and something for ED to REALLY be proud of. But, and I know things aren't this simple, I would've voted for keeping the visuals, water, lighting, etc. from 2.5.6... and merely introducing the new clouds into how things looked before. I'm kind of weary of the gamma getting jacked up higher and higher with each new update. My honest first impression of 2.7 was not about the clouds, but about how bad the gamma looked, introducing a sort of reddish, washed out hue to everything. If one brings the gamma any lower (I'm a 1.8 guy), the outside world in 2.7 starts to look a little better, but the cockpits become ridiculous. I keep a Stable version loaded on my SSD and when I flip back from 2.7 to 2.5.6, the latter looks quite a bit better...especially the water. -
Tried all of the above... still appears every time for me.

In 2.7, it is as if the Hornet's 'pit receives sunlight through solid surfaces rather than creating shadows. Gamma is set to 1.8 in settings and cockpit shadows set to "high"... The clouds are beautiful in 2.7. The lighting on the other hand is a hot mess.

[NO FM CHANGES IN UPDATE] Flight Model/Engine Thrust Tweak?
wilbur81 replied to wilbur81's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Hey, Devs. Were there any undocumented flight model, engine thrust, FCS, or drag factor changes made to the Hornet in 2.7 and supplemental updates? I've done some testing where I have the same mission/scenarios open on both latest Stable and latest O.B. and it appears that the Hornet cannot achieve as high an AOA now in OB and that g-onset has changed. But I guess we'll never know... -
reported HACQ Locks onto target 30+ miles away Track Available
wilbur81 replied to Teriander's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, it's REALLY messed up right now... -
Hey, Bignewy. Just came back to DCS from a two month break and downloaded the latest 2.7 OB. Here's the annual question: Did the Hornet's flight model or engine thrust get tweaked in 2.7 in any way? It doesn't seem to be performing as well as it did before 2.7, particularly at slower speeds... as if it has been AOA limited more than before....but maybe it's just me? *EDIT* I need to post a 2.5.6 and 2.7.1 track respectively with the FCS page up, but I'm finding, in 2.7.1, that left and right stick on final approach to the carrier introduces what looks like an adverse yaw or horizontal nose 'swing' that was/is not present in pre-2.7 builds. Again, the burden is on me to post tracks... Anyone else with the time and both builds on their PC can try it out to see what I'm talking about, but I noticed it immediately on my first 2.7 Hornet CASE 1 approach.

Agreed. -
I'm getting TONS of crashes. All drivers and W10 are up to date.

Same problem for me since the update. -
Yes, even after running the "slow" repair option.

Here are some more reasons why I'll take the Legacy over the Super any day... in the words of Capt. Eric Doyle of the Blues: (https://aerobaticteams.net/en/news/i326/Is-the-Super-Hornet-better-for-the-Blue-Angels-than-Legacy-Hornet.html) Here are some words from Capt. Doyle about difference between the two Hornets: “The aileron roll of Super Hornet will be a little bit slower, maybe a bit more sluggish.” “The flight computer may require some work-arounds. In the pirouette maneuver done by Blue Angel solos with the current [Legacy] Hornet (which has its own FCS), the pilot points the nose skyward, kicks full rudder and the airplane yaws/rolls around itself. But the stock Rhino’s flight control software won’t let a pilot do that. So we had to build in a little ‘notch’ into the flight control computers to allow us to do a pirouette.” Sure seems like the Super took all the fun out of the Hornet.

That's more like it.

... by "direct SME feedback," you mean all your friends that flew the LOT 20 Hornet that you've had in-depth conversations with and then sat down and compared detailed notes about how our DCS Hornet performs at sea-level clean, with/without pylons and stores, at performance-chart fuel capacities, at all temperatures, in full mil and max A/B, confirmed that the DCS Hornet top speeds are not being effected by realistic/unrealistic pylon and weapons drag, simulated fuel weights, etc. etc. right? My guess is that, between the Lot 20 SME's that ED has spent the last 3+ years consulting with, and the 404 performance data that they DO have access to, that they know what they're doing. "My SME's are better than your SME's..." I digress. I'm still holding firmly to the fact that ED is going to get us as close to real as possible. A real Hornet driver like Mover who says "Man, this Hornet feels draggy" on his first few DCS flights on YouTube does not equal detailed SME analysis anymore than a real Hornet driver who says, "Man, this Hornet feels too fast" does. And you've admitted that neither you nor anyone else commenting here is looking at real documentation on the matter.
-
According to what source and testing? Seriously, dude... baseless, data-less, one-liner, throwaway comments like this cause so much "yeah, but..." nonsense on these forums. If you want to post a whole bunch of performance charts for the 404s and then accurate test-results from DCS with detailed and thorough experimentation at all altitudes and temperatures, etc. etc....be our guest.

Nice!

You're "pretty sure it is not abandoned?" Good Lord... folks around here seriously underestimate ED. When they are complete, the DCS Viper and Hornet will be THE definitive civilian simulation treatments of these two airframes... period. They will both be as close to reality as unclassified pixels can get. They are already magnificent (with the Hornet naturally having more time in the oven as it came first), but this kind of niche' perfectionism that they're pursuing takes A LOT of time and care...

Getting our Hornets and Vipers closer to real world performance would not be "nerfing." I for one as a DCS Viper and Hornet owner am looking forward to both jets being as realistic as possible. But no carrier ops for the Viper makes me turn to the Hornet again and again...

Indeed.
