  1. Wags, SERIOUSLY! Watching this latest Hornet video... you and your team have created a MASTERPIECE! Well done!
  2. I'd think so, but certainly if they could pull it off w/o a performance hit, that'd be amazing.
  3. Nobody here wants the performance penalty of terrain rendering many, many miles out from your a/c. There have to be some compromises... and that's what we have with the current TGP, which is reasonable.
  4. The Syria map is by far the most detailed map I own, but it isn't as well-optimized or polished as PG or Caucasus. I feel like ED's in-house maps (PG, NTTR, Caucasus, etc.) look more clean, sharp, and tidy. Syria looks a little rough around the edges in terms of textures, but many here have disagreed with my assessment. I'd still go for the Syria map over the Viper when you already own the Hornet, but that's just me.
  5. Just take a screenshot of the info bar airspeed data on the jet in question in the f2 view and post it.
  6. Agreed. As a full 4K res. user, I should (to Hawkeye's point) never spot a single F-16 at 18 miles away... But I SHOULD see him at 5 miles... assuming I'm looking at his sector of sky. The new spotting has made that closer range spotting more realistic at 4K... they probably just need to reign in the farther out stuff.

    NCTR help

Does anyone know if, in the real BLK 20 Hornet, the AZ/EL page displays a NCTR print? It seems as of now that you only get the a/c ID on the AZ/EL page if it is already confirmed via some other friendly on Datalink. In other words, if I'm flying alone, with no AWACS or other Link 16 support, my SA page is the only Hornet display that will give me NCTR.
  8. I'll try again as my first post was apparently deleted by Mods (I'll assume accidentally ;-)) In this track, all of the below items occurred at least once in the test mission provided: These are in no particular order: - AACQ (SMS right) failed to STT lock the '+' plus sign priority target - STEP button on SA page didn't automatically take me to STT aircraft I was locked to - Viper & Tomcat do not get a NCTR print - Radar got stuck in RST/BST multiple times, not allowing me to undesignate my STT or return to search - AZEL page did not display NCTR print when SA page did (maybe not a bug given some of the stranger real world Hornet interface properties?) NCTR Test.trk
  9. I'm confused: this thread is now labeled "Correct as is" and has the additional comment of "30 degrees off nose or tail." In my track I'm literally about to put my nose up the Viper's tail pipe... and still no NCTR print. I'm literally dead-on nose-to-tail aspect.
  10. Yeah, it seems like (possibly) the problem is associated with multiple 120C launches in the air. Again, this is a newer bug for me from one of the last two (I think) updates.
  11. Certainly not for me. PG runs quite a bit smoother than Syria... but I only have a 1070 gpu and play at full 4K. Syria doesn't feel nearly as well optimized as ED's in house maps.
  12. Understood. Happy New Year, Sir!
  13. Thanks for testing, Flappie! I'm surprised that no one has brought this one up yet? Hopefully it will be looked at soon.
  14. Hey, fellas. Am I doing something wrong here? No NCTR print on the SA page from dead on rear aspect, under 10 miles in STT. No NCTR.trk
  15. Just tried this again and the drop from 60fps to 7-10 fps (at sim time 08:04:22) coincided exactly with the enemy 120C going pitbull and my RWR sounding the CW alarm in the headset. 080422.trk
  16. And here's a really good episode on the F-15: https://omegataupodcast.net/224-flying-the-f-15-eagle/ And the F-16: https://omegataupodcast.net/251-flying-the-f-16-viper/ And the F-35: https://omegataupodcast.net/343-flying-and-testing-the-f-35/ Seriously, Markus' interviews provide an amazing, in depth, and fun (Especially Jeff Fellmeth's Eagle Interview) perspective on the jets. And the BEST part about each episode: They're nice and long.
  17. I'm getting (since one of the last two most recent updates) a very significant, sudden, and very repeatable FPS drop in the Hornet. (See the three tracks below). Here's the scenario: - Frames go from a steady 58-60 fps to 6-12 very suddenly and the sim becomes unplayable. -Syria Map -Player in Hornet w/ one AI wingman at around 34K feet. -Three opposing AI Vipers -Seems to be associated with multiple AIM-120C launches (by me) or possibly my RWR warnings when enemy 120s go pitbull? Or maybe something to do with TWS support of 120c launches in quick succession? - The FPS drop moments happen at sim times 08:03:22; 08:06:09; and 08:03:49 (as noted in track file titles) roughly speaking. ** Maybe of interest: I just flew again and with FPS having dropped to 6 FPS, an enemy 120C struck my Hornet and instantly frames went back up to 60 FPS as my jet was destroyed. Again this is a recent update that introduced the current bug. MajorFPSdrop080322.trk MajorFPSdrop080609.trk MajorFPSdrop080349.trk
  18. Having flown Syria now for a couple of months, I'd say it is the ugliest map I own. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just doesn't hold up to PG, NTTR, or even Caucasus in appearance in my opinion. Don't get me wrong: Syria is the most AMAZINGLY detailed map in all of DCS... and a HUGE achievement from that aspect. It just doesn't look as good to my eye. The textures (set to the highest possible) just don't look good to me, on the terrain and on structures. The colors seem more 'cartoonish' than the other maps as well. Again, it's hard to put a finger on... and this is certainly my opinion as I know many other think it's the best map. Maybe the other maps that I own are more optimized to the non-use of MSAA (I use '0' as I play at full 4K) than Syria? I'll never know as Syria+4K+MSAA+gtx1070=not happening.

  20. I would love to see more mission builders creating fast mover missions that have realistic infantry movements on the ground. A player flying CAP at 35K feet in a Tomcat may never see any of it, but it adds an INCREDIBLE level of realism, interest, and sense of purpose for the fast-mover missions. Before kids when there was a bit more time I used to create little intimate scenarios such as having a terrorist group occupying a 'safe-house' and adding triggers that caused Special Forces to start attacking the house... and then more triggers that led to the terrorists driving away in a truck convoy that some Warthogs needed to neutralize. I flew CAP for this while it was all happening. People know this, I think, but the mission editor is a remarkably powerful tool. But the big limitation for most of us is time and the fact that after creating cool missions, there's no surprise. All that said, 'boots on the ground' make all missions in DCS (including pure air-to-air) much more interesting in my opinion.
  21. No, it was a 250 GB SSD totally dedicated to DCS alone... nothing else on it. I keep my Win10 install on a separate 128GB SSD. I had to upgrade to a 1TB 860 EVO to accommodate for future DCS updates and the Marinas map.
  22. I 100% agree. My only beef with this whole discussion is the suggestion that ED would put their precious resources towards earlier models of jets they're already in-very-deep developing.
  23. Fair enough. I strongly disagree. I'm one who comes to DCS for the most modern simulation that is possible given man-hour and military classification restraints. And ED has given us that quite reasonably in the blk 20 Hornet and blk 50 Viper. I certainly don't think many at Eagle Dynamics would sympathize with your comment that "[the earlier, older models of these aircraft] should have been the ones to be developed from the get go." So we'll agree to disagree.
