I seem to remember someone in another thread stating that the difference mainly comes down to ease of maintenance and reliability. Perhaps some radar modes are different - I'd imagine the more advanced A/G modes to be removed/deactivated as there was little/no use for them...
-
Yes but the effect can be shared among ED modules, no (similar to NVGs using the same shader/effect across modules)? The community has been asking for this feature for ED modules for 7 years now so lack of time is not an excuse they can use. There are keybinds for left and right sunvisor but they are not what you'd think: they are for instrument cluster covers. A proper sunvisor is not implemented in any ED module.

Yes it is tricky. Only recently have I been able to aerobrake reliably. It’s the same with the F-5 really: it can be done but it requires some finesse and a lot of practice.

Heatblur's M61 Vulcan shot grouping
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to MicroShket's topic in Heatblur Simulations
In short: the community claimed for years the dispersion was quite a bit off (CPE too large, leading to the M61 being far less accurate in DCS than it is/was IRL), while ED was adamant they modelled it correctly. After years of bickering, ED had to confess the community was correct and they fixed the dispersion. -
Lunar Sale | Su-25A Announced | MiG-29 Pilot Helmet
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to Graphics's topic in Official Newsletters
Excellent news about the Su-25, but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed the FM won't be upgraded to PFM, as it's the only aircraft in DCS which doesn't have a FM to that degree of fidelity. Are there plans to rectify that in the future?- 101 replies

Scintillation? Not exclusively: https://youtu.be/M_1g1N4ilQM?si=lSD-MsHftCqy1-wN (purposefully not embedded or I'll get naughty points again ) Already mentioned earlier. I haven't tested it myself yet, but I think it just freezes your motion while the rest of the DCS world continues on its merry way so you might want to be careful using this.

Game Crash DX11BACKEND: DX device removed. Reason: 0x887A0007
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to nrlemo's topic in Game Crash
Not to be the bearer of ill news, but when I had a similar error message, the graphics card I was using at the time had started to die. It took over a year, but it did die and replacing it "fixed" that issue. Perhaps something to keep in mind. Why? I for one am happy to see there are at least people who don't constantly make new things about stuff already discussed, bloating the forum even more than it already is. This thread here is as good a place as any (probably better even) to post, as long as the error message received is exactly the same.- 17 replies

Feedback Thread - Tomcat Patch 24-12-24
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
HB have stated Jester doesn’t use AEW&C data yet, but that it’s planned for later during the F-4 EA - and since the F-14 is also supposed to receive Jester 2.0 at some point, both modules should benefit. -
F14 VR - VDI screen not usable in MT Version
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to westr's topic in Bugs and Problems
I’m following. i doubt it’s specifically nvidia related though, as for the first year and a half of this problem existing I was using an AMD gfx card -
F14 VR - VDI screen not usable in MT Version
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to westr's topic in Bugs and Problems
It doesn’t. I clear that folder every time I install a new nvidia driver so I would’ve noticed if it did. -
F14 VR - VDI screen not usable in MT Version
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to westr's topic in Bugs and Problems
But there's nothing there that I don't clear manually before every patch (I even clear more folders than just those), and yet the VDI is still black on my end. -
Absolutely, but there are indeed differences in how intuitive things are when you "sit down" for the very first time. As an example, it took me quite some time to get used to Western helicopters because I find Eastern/European helicopters a LOT more intuitive: the collective and pedals move "in sync" while on US helicopters they move opposite.

Cockpit Point of View all screwed up - Help!
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to bop1701's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
The forum is weird like that. Sometimes it’s there when it doesn’t make sense, and other times it’s not there when you want it to be -

Is the texture resolution increased by 400%?
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to LucShep's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
I'm simply stating that VRAM clearly is a limiting factor to many models in the nVidia line-up. I'm not the only one who's saying that: the tech media picked up on that too. -
Since this thread is marked “in progress”, can we expect an update on this in the near future, pretty please?

- Low-level flying is a lot of fun in the F-15E, and you can do it forever given the ridiculous amount of fuel you can carry - It is also very respectable in BVR (I in fact completed the FC3 F-15C campaign with the F-15E since it's a purely BVR campaign and there's no need to dogfight). - The wide HUD is incredible! - It has a usable sunvisor so people with sensitive eyes won't get a headache and get nauseous when flying it. - The lack of datalink can also be an advantage: without all-seeing-eye you need to pay a lot more attention to building a picture in your head and watching your surroundings. This increased tension is an advantage in a PC simulator IMHO. - Older TGP that has quirks but is more interesting to use than the fantasy pod the F-16 currently uses.

DCS Questions and Answers - January 2025
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to DigitalEngine's topic in Community News
Yes, go back in time to August 2023: there’s a thread about it.
