To say nothing of the feeling of your head and butt trying to occupy the same space in the seat pan.

But Karon, why shouldn’t we expect late 60’s and early 70’s computer systems to work as perfectly as our 2024 cell phones? You act like a Phoenix doesn’t have the computing power to run pacman. Oh yea, it DOESN’T. An Arduino would run circles around it. Why should we expect it to work like janky early computers, it’s running on the fastest computer I could afford, so it should be that good /s

Jester Can't Hold Target Designation in LANTIRN
RustBelt replied to bonesvf103's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
No, you just can’t use the extra lazy function AND there’s an evident work around. Go practice your CCIP and CCRP with the TCS and manual bombing with the tables. I bet they’re rusty as hell. -
reported Mk82 Snakeeye deploy in Highdrag when in Nose Fuse
RustBelt replied to Stryker990's topic in Bugs and Problems
It may be an adverse separation issue nose armed with the fins in. The manual is specific about how it’s rigged, so for the F-5 it probably is the only way, dud or low drag. No slick snakeye. -
When will the CV59 have the function of a super aircraft carrier?
RustBelt replied to dandan's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Because the super carrier is ED. Why do the Hornet and Vipers position lights work while the tomcats are dim? Search the tomcat subforum. It was specifically addressed that there was lighting work that wasn’t going to be temporarily fixed due to “imminent” big changes in DCS (Vulkan). Easily 2-3 years ago back when Vulkan was planned for “end of the year”. -
When will the CV59 have the function of a super aircraft carrier?
RustBelt replied to dandan's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Because they’re still using the crappy cataracts view light source filter kludges from 2.5 to deal with lights at distances. Remember that whole mess? -
I use Magnetic Absolute encoders for HDG, CRS, OBS. (Basically compass stuff.) The incrementing ones are either too slow or skip too many spaces per increment. Absolutes pump out a 0v at 000, around to 5v at 359. So one full turn is 360 degrees, or you can gear it to 180 a full rotation. Probably math a magic it too if you spend a whole $4 more dollars to put an intermediate Pi Pico between the encoders and your MMJoy2 or DCSbios arduino. (They’re still stuck with Megas isn’t it?) Basically it’s a Hall effect sensor in a potentiometer shaped case with a transducer output. Pricier at $35/per but 100% how they work in the cockpit. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X42RB5D/?coliid=I4NMFOICK6APG&colid=2Z693F6I90C69&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_ys_dp_it Pot for fixed arc, Absolute Encoder for round and round forever. Interval encoders only for stepping interfaces like the NS-430 knobs. Don’t get me started for 3 and 5 turn Pots for stuff like the Altimeter Baro setting. I need professional help.

That’s because the Su has magic computers that keep you from ripping the wings off, while the Tomcat uses the Pilot’s skill to not rip the wings off. A significantly newer aircraft will in fact be better, that’s how arms races work.

When will the CV59 have the function of a super aircraft carrier?
RustBelt replied to dandan's topic in Heatblur Simulations
The lights/LoD are all still part of the “waiting for Vulkan” issue. They don’t want to put in work that’s supposed to be undone with the “soon” switch to Vulkan. And by this point it probably will be left until the A-6 or Navy Phantom at the earliest. -
Trim problem when axis swapped
RustBelt replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in Bugs and Problems
So you have Double inverted your pitch axis. Negative times a negative equals? Try NOT inverting the FFB on X (Pitch) just because the input is backwards doesn’t mean the FFB direction is. Also to eliminate other ambiguity. Verify The Up direction on your trim hat is bound to Nose (Pitch) trim DOWN. -
[NO BUG] When Phoenixes are placed on 1B and 8B
RustBelt replied to Silent Film's topic in Bugs and Problems
What about the 54C’s aren’t those internally cooled? -
Fired up the old Athlon XP with 98SE and seems like no dice. It will do on the fly deadzone, but it doesn’t change the setting in firmware. One other longshot is to actually change the rotational position (clock) of the motor gear to “fresh” teeth where the stick centers. Since the position feedback is in the gimbal not the motor, it doesn’t effect function, but may help reduce backlash. I’m not going to try it personally because by that point I should be working on my VP force build not digging into my old stick.

It’s probably a manifold cluster of things. It seems like every third party has different tricks they have to learn to overcome the DCS scenery system. Seems like they have to build what they want, then work backward to find all the inefficiencies and sneaky invisible performance eaters. I suspect there is little in the way of proofing tools provided for them to catch stuff before it’s out in the world.

ask for advice on activating the auto throttle
RustBelt replied to Michael-Fr's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Think of it more like a neck activated joystick for looking around. -
Certain conflicts are de-focused on for.......ЯeasoИs....See the empty peninsula in the caucuses for example.

F-14A use of manual override for forward sweep observations

Rivet counters aren’t really “customers” so much as a side effect. -
F-14A use of manual override for forward sweep observations

Yep, that’s them politely informing you they’re busy. -
Wondering if there be an f-14D in the near future.
RustBelt replied to jamse's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Maybe once Iran’s Tomcats get bombed into scrap more info might come out. -
ask for advice on activating the auto throttle
RustBelt replied to Michael-Fr's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It’s possible, but it’s not easy. Without head tracking you’ll want any controls used on landing mapped to keys or joystick buttons. I have head tracking and it still can get dicey trying to work throttle stick and a mouse with one pair of hands. -
keyboard shortcut for "Show/Hide HUD camera"
RustBelt replied to Michael-Fr's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
A check box in the menu would be even better, but that doesn’t always even reliably work with hide pilot body or hide stick so.- 1 reply

Stennis not Carl V. Guess who almost exclusively flys off the Forestall?
-
Also so people can make missions for others with stuff they don’t have. I don’t own the Hornet, but I can place them as client slots if I whip up a multi-squadron mission. I just can’t choose them to fly myself. Also I can be on the Carl Vinson Stennis, and have The GW also in country running all as AI. I just can’t spawn off it. But I can use it in mission. Best practice for shared missions is use either the Forestall Or Carl V. Stennis Unless you absolutely must have Supercarrier features. (You never do really from a mission standpoint) Then you don’t NEED the SC just to run the mission.

I honestly stopped noticing (or remembering when/if I notice). It’s cute, but utterly forgettable.

Carrier landing speed "You're a little slow"
RustBelt replied to RogerRamjet's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Many, many times. They’ll do it when they do it. And not a moment sooner. Same as it ever was.
