I think it's safe to say it's not yet finished. They've been implementing radar and weapon symbology changes as recently as a month or two ago.
-
Also worth mentioning that MANPADs only have an effective range that is well within IR seeker range as well. Why carry a bulky radar system (and it would certainly be very bulky) when you can just use passive IR detection? Radar doesn't really give many, if any, benefits at this range while it has tons of drawbacks for the infantry.

It’s realistic, I’ve seen the same things in real footage. Best to pull a constant G and stabilize the pipper on the target for a full second before firing.
-
I sincerely hope this does get looked at. My Harpoons miss often because of overflying the targets.

AI P-47s may have a different flight model and different speed capabilities from the player?

In the other sim I found it most useful when using the terrain following radar and low level autopilot modes, to interrupt it when it did something wacky like pitch up wildly to avoid weather.

Question on dogfight missile override switch
kengou replied to GR00VYJERRY's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
You may find more luck watching Falcon BMS tutorials. Same aircraft and avionics but it's been around much longer than the DCS Viper has been so there's much more content. There is no MFD button to exit the Dogfight or Missile override modes. You're meant to use the HOTAS button on the throttle to cancel the override mode you're in. Then you can select a different master mode. There are a few different keybinding options to account for different control setups. I believe the dgft/center button will toggle between on and off. While the keybinds for just dgft override will only switch it on, then you'd need another key bound to the center position to exit the mode. -
Autopilot disconnect.

At least in another Viper sim, the TPOD can hand it’s target over to the Maverick like in other planes such as the Hornet and Harrier, but also gives the Maverick an immediate lock (if within lock parameters). So you can find targets, lock them, and fire the Mavericks all with only the tpod as SOI. It’s very quick. You can also lock a target with the tpod, hand it off to the Maverick to get a lock, then cycle to the next Maverick and lock another target, and repeat, Until each Maverick has a lock, to the point that you can run in and ripple off 4 Mavericks at 4 targets simultaneously kind of like JDAMs.

Looking forward to CZ and Maverick handoff as well. Automatic Maverick handoff is such a great feature of the Viper and makes it very fun to employ.

Think you answered your own question there. Why would they go to the trouble of encrypting everything if they didn't care if people kept old versions with unencrypted files?

Please read the first page. But to reiterate, the Thrustmaster stick has a 4-way + push.
-
Great post, I hadn't thought about using the LST to slew an IR Maverick to a target. Neat!
-
Real stick has 3 way + push. FWD for AIM-7, Right for AIM-120, Aft for Gun, Down for AIM-9.
-
I have the same TM stick and it absolutely does move left. It’s a 4 way plus push.

Imo this is as big a deal as aircraft damage models and dogfight AI. Proper air to ground is virtually impossible to do realistically without splash damage, something that every other game on the planet seems to do without that much difficulty.
-
Typically they're always together after startup/shutdown of engines. Asymmetric thrust wouldn't be done on purpose. Only exception I can think of is the Hornet where pilots might make smaller corrections to thrust by walking the throttles forward/back an inch on one side, then an inch on another side, to get a finer control of thrust than moving them together, in cases like refueling or carrier landings. But both throttles would never be far apart from each other. And it's not for yaw purposes, but simply for fine speed/glide slope control.

Interesting, were radar-guided weapons and fast jets not something the Soviets were worried about? I doubt it came up in Afghanistan. EDIT: I misread this and assumed the Hind had no RWR at all. Seems that it does.

The QTY menu selects which stations drop when you press pickle. If you select both racks, both will drop. If you select one, that specific rack will drop (and if it's empty, nothing will drop). If you deselect all stations on the QTY menu, then one bomb will drop for each press of the pickle button.

Soviet/Russian Attack Helicopter tactics for the Hind?
kengou replied to Andrei Dragovic's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
How capable is the Hind of carrying a weapons load along with troops? -
Sounds like you need dead zones.

The responsiveness of the airplane to control inputs is going to vary based on everybody's home controller setup. Nobody can say if it's exactly right because we're not flying the simulator from inside a real Hornet cockpit. As for comparisons with the Mirage, the Hornet is WAY draggier, while the Mirage is a delta wing with elevons which gives it crazy pitch authority and roll speed. They're both fly-by-wire but they have vastly different aerodynamics and the flight systems are designed very differently.

I have different axis curves between different aircraft. The landing gear and flaps work differently on different aircraft. Wheel brakes work differently on different aircraft. I’m struggling to think of a common control binding that could actually be identical across all aircraft in the game.

When can we expect more info about A-10C v2?
kengou replied to amalahama's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
I'm a bit ignorant about MP, how would you use it? Isn't it just another radio for SRS to transmit over? -

kengou replied to amalahama's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
My guess is: We will see all the features in the leaked list but maybe not all at release. The A-10C II will appear in the newsletter this week with a general timeframe of early access release (within a couple months). New purchase pricing will be equivalent to all modern jets, i.e. $70 - $80 USD. Existing owner upgrade pricing will be much cheaper. I'm hoping for a ballpark of $20 USD but we'll see. If the features are as listed, I would purchase this just for APKWS and HMCS features. The 'satellite radio' seems entirely useless within the sim, though... not really sure what the point is.
