  1. That seems like such a waste of a HARM. AAA is much more easily killed by LGBs.
  2. The evidence seems compelling to me. The jet is capable, it just wouldn't be done for practical reasons (hunting SAMs without ECM/external fuel). The decision should be up to the mission commander (or the pilot in DCS's case).
  3. I’m glad they’re adding seeker bore sighting for realism, but I wouldn’t mind if this was a special option that we can enable or disable, sometimes I find it a bit tedious. Besides, do Mavericks lock onto anything but vehicles in DCS currently? Would make it hard to boresight.
  4. I keep being failed in this mission during the air combat portion. I launch on the attackers at around 20 miles in tws, then turn cold once the missiles are active (since I'm being spiked). Splash two bandits but it seems like as soon as I got to around waypoint 3 (happened a couple of times now) it tells me I've failed for not completing objectives. I'm guessing there's a trigger meant to take place on the return trip at waypoint 3? If that's the case, having the BVR combat take place so close to waypoint 3 is probably a mistake. My next attempt I'll try to not retreat quite so far, but sometimes in BVR combat it's the correct thing to do when getting spiked and launched on.
  5. Razbam's unprofessionalism and serious lack of communication in this matter and all other matters for literally years has lost them my future business. I have hope the Harrier will get to a good state, with ED's help. I don't think I regret my purchase of it at this point. I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it over the years, more than worth the money I spent. But I do not trust this team anymore to deliver on their promises. I've given them second and third chances but they don't deserve any more.
  6. This is a very concerning development. I had pledged to myself, and will continue to, that I wouldn’t buy any further RAZBAM products until the existing aircraft were complete. This move signals to me that they consider the Harrier to be complete now, and it absolutely is not. I’ll continue to hold off on purchases until their “product sustainment” leads to a completed Harrier where every important feature of the plane is implemented. That means mark points, that means a targeting pod and dmt that doesn’t glitch out and point somewhere random, that means a hud flir that works, that means all appropriate vrest and other mfd pages fully implemented. It might be a long while or never before I consider the F-15e or whatever comes next.
  7. Luckily for me the hardware change went very smoothly and I had no need to restore any mappings. Case closed.
  8. I believe this can’t be done right now but (someone correct me if I’m wrong) I think that the cursor should be able to interact with those buttons just like it does with range and bars on the top edge.
  9. There is a logic to the Hornet's avionics. It's just different logic to the Air Force. Anything air-to-air can be done without taking your hands off the stick and throttle. Air to air weapons, radar modes, radar ranges, it's all there, so you'll never have to go heads-down at a critical time. And there's several features missing that will improve this further once we get Az/El pages and other things. What requires heads-down is air to ground programming, which is expected to be completely set up by the time you are fencing in. You shouldn't need to go heads-down to set up a JDAM while you're dodging SAMs, because it should be done already. My personal approach is to never bind more to the HOTAS than is in the real jet. Because I want to simulate that jet, including its control layout as closely as I reasonably can. I want to experience and learn to work with its controls, both the benefits and deficiencies. If the pilot would need to take his hand off the throttle to push a few buttons at a critical time, so be it, I also want to experience what it's like to work this jet. I guess if I were to bind DDI buttons though, the top row on left DDI with weapon selection would be important. And perhaps the right side column of buttons on the MFCD so you get waypoint changes and target designation.
  10. True but very similar in practice.
  11. I believe if you're in CCRP mode, you'll get the pipper in the HUD which can be slewed around with HUD as SOI. When you place it over your intended target (whether you slewed it or just flew it there) and hold down the pickle button, it should immediately convert into CCRP and release when the cue reaches the FPM.
  12. Wonderful answer, thanks so much! I'll back all of this up immediately. Hopefully I can avoid the headaches of remapping every controller for every plane next time.
  13. You're going to find the Hornet's HOTAS functionality is much more limited than the Warthog's. Also, many pages are designed to be displayed on only one DDI, either left or right. There are some functions that display or change pages on different DDIs by pressing sensor select in the direction of that DDI, but those functions are not yet implemented. For example, swapping SA for HSI on the button DDI, or enabling az/el on the left DDI with radar on the right.
  14. I am preparing to replace my computer's motherboard in order to upgrade the CPU and RAM. I hope I won't need to reinstall Windows as a result, although anything is possible. Last time I reinstalled Windows, despite backing up all my control mappings, I still had to manually remap my controls for every aircraft because the controller IDs and order within DCS (and within Windows) got rearranged. Before I make another major change to my PC, I want to take as many precautions as possible to avoid having to remap everything again. It was a long and annoying process. What can I do to ensure my controller bindings will all work after a motherboard change or possibly (worst case) a Windows reinstall? Is there a good way to re-order or preserve my device IDs? Will that help? :joystick:
  15. No, it's a novel, a story, entirely fictional and not based on any true events. But the author was a real Hornet pilot and it's an excellent read, very authentic.
  16. The three way switch is: dogfight override, missile override, cancel override. So if you’re in dogfight mode, you can switch to missile override mode to get a amraams quickly. You can also hold the missile step button to switch weapons in any mode.
  17. I find no reason to be on stable. Stable has bugs. Beta has bugs. Serious, gamebreaking bugs are the only ones that don't make it to the stable build. And they've honestly been rare in the beta build. I've never had a time in DCS that I couldn't play due to a broken patch on the beta build. Once or twice in the last few years I've delayed updating because a new patch broke one feature in one plane or something, so I just played on the previous patch for a couple days until a hotfix came out. Not only does beta get new features sooner it also gets bugfixes sooner. Just install beta.
  18. I don’t think there’s any advantage to turning off ltws except maybe to avoid cluttering your screen with l&s information.
  19. Tested a bit yesterday and things seem to work well enough bombing things near a steerpoint. In point track it stabilized to the ground position I pointed to and remained there after maneuvers and masking. Cursor zero brings it back to the steerpoint. Snowplow mode seems to be nonfunctional though. It will snap to the right position roughly and let you slew around in front of you, but it doesn't seem to be updating the SPI position, and there is no box on the hud representing its position (possibly the DTOS function).
  20. Exactly, these modes are for preplanned strikes or navigation assistance, not for hunting moving targets on patrol.
  21. It should hold current altitude no matter what.
  22. No need to undesignate between steps. Just do this: Slew, designate (now your TPOD is controlling the Target Designation) JDAM should now display coordinates in TOO mode Step to next JDAM station (or change to TOO2) Slew to next target Step Slew Step Slew As soon as you step to the next station or switch to a different TOO mission profile, the current coordinates of the TPOD (and/or target designation) will load into that TOO profile. So don't ever step back to a station you've already designated or it will overwrite it. Undesignate if you're unsure, then step, then slew and designate again.
  23. Also check out sim vs game mode in the settings to be sure you didn't bind your controls to one while playing in the other.
  24. I bind mine to my throttle, not sure if that helps you though.
