I'd be surprised if we got fire bombs or mines at this point. Would require some major new technologies in DCS Core.
-
In a situation where you can’t quite be sure, you’ll have to VID. That’s realistic too.

I tried this one out again in the free trial, I was still on the fence about buying it. I decided against it. The flight model, while very different from the others in DCS, doesn't bother me quite as much, especially after Casmo and other pilots have said it feels plausible for a fly by wire helicopter with heavy stability augmentation. But I just couldn't find it fun to execute missions with it. Using the wire-guided missiles, for example, requires auto-hover because the TV tracking is seriously buggy when not in a perfect hover. But auto-hover is the most picky feature ever. Requires getting into a perfect hover in a very twitchy helicopter before initiating it, with no feedback that it's enabled until you test it by moving some control, which then knocks you out of the perfect hover to start all over again. So you spend a minute finagling the helicopter into auto-hover WHILE in plain view of the target you want to fire at (because you can't change altitude while in auto-hover for pop-ups). By that time, you're shot down. It just feels frustrating.

Afterburner detent special option - hold vs toggle

Thank you! I'll give it a try -
Flight Model Characteristics - Will I be disappointed?
kengou replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Once the Alien livery is created in DCS I doubt I'll use anything else. Best livery I've ever seen for any aircraft. -
Missile Step Button when held long will switch weapons in any mode.

Video: F-5E (2x AIM-9P) vs. JF-17 (2x SD-10 and 2x PL-5EII)
kengou replied to Doc3908's topic in DCS: F-5E Tiger II
Great flying, I’ve really got to get better at keeping my speed up the way you do. I always tend to get slow in the Tiger. -
Tms up will lock a target (soft lock, then hard lock on the second press). In TWS mode, tms up will bug target under cursor, tms right will step through system tracks. Targets must be filled with a brick to lock it, otherwise hollow targets on radar are datalink indications only.

The F-16 already has a special option for afterburner detent does it not? It looks identical to the Hornet's.

Flight Model Characteristics - Will I be disappointed?
kengou replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
The Hind is designed differently than the Mi-8 in some ways. It’s got wings and it’s got a slimmer profile. It’s going to be much much faster. It’s an attack helicopter after all, not a transport/utility helo. But in other ways, it won’t be as nimble as an Apache of Kiowa. It has a transport cabin and its heavy for an attack helo. It’s not that nimble to turn. It will be fast in straight lines but may have difficulty hovering or turning because of the wings. I think it’ll be unique enough from the Mi-8 in flight model. The Hip is good practice because of the avionics and cockpit layout, not so much because of the flight model. -
Autopilot is part of the UFC (up-front-controller) menu. The Autopilot UFC button has a keybind you can map. To enable barometric or radar altitude holds or heading hold modes, you would need to use the relevant function buttons, since those buttons are context sensitive.

Is it worth grabbing an Odyssey Plus headset only (lacking hand controllers) for cheap? I already have a nice trackir setup and I'm not dissatisfied with it. I've never tried VR except very brief demos of old systems and never in a flight sim. Is it that much better than trackir to be worth the purchase? I also have a GTX 1060 so I'm not expecting to be wowed by performance, either.

I was testing this last night and found the second missile has trouble moving to the SPI. First missile has successful handoff no problem and locks and fires. Second missile doesn't move to the location of the TGP and doesn't handoff with TMS up. On the TGP page, if I TMS down then TMS up on the new target, the Maverick will slew itself right over and attempt to lock.

If you’re far enough away, glance at the mfd for iff. If you’re too close for that, you should be visual anyway.
-
Correct (and the Harrier too but it can’t do air to air)
-
Based on google articles, AIFF is "Advanced IFF". Agree I hope an SME can clarify but IFF systems tend to be very classified. It may be something like the A-10 II's satellite radio feature. Some new in-cockpit models for switches, an extra item for the feature list for marketing purposes, not much more.
-
Googling AIFF it looks like this is a Mode 5 interrogator, vs the Mode 4 we have now in most aircraft. It was integrated in the Viper starting in around 1995. I'm not seeing very much that would be relevant to DCS aside from maybe this line: Source: https://www.telinstrument.com/avionics-news/industry-articles/101-iff-and-mode-5-past-present-and-future.html

Who will win the race between the Mi-24 and the OH-58?
kengou replied to Razorback's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I've been searching for the post that says this but can't find it. I don't blame you if you choose not to believe me. But I absolutely remember reading it from an ED representative recently. -
Viper prefers faster speeds. 380 - 390 knots may be the right speed for the Hornet but not for the Viper, since Viper has higher wing loading, less drag, etc.

Hind will also carry a TON of rockets, and will be one of the fastest Helos we've had in DCS. Looks like fun. -

The Kiowa sure looks great, no doubt, and Hellfires are going to be amazing. That said, a light scout helicopter designed to work in concert with other forces doesn't seem to fit that well with my singleplayer DCS experience. Really looks like it fits best in multiplayer, with multiple helicopters, and multicrew. The Hind on the other hand seems to fit well with various cold war gone hot scenarios and should be fun for single players, since the pilot does most of the work. Plus that wing and transport capability will make it pretty unique as attack helos go. -
I don't think it's a thing, based on other simulators. Honestly never missed it.
