You fly like a helicopter. Pitch forward to go forward, back to slow down. Throttle to control height/rate of descent. Alternatively you can nozzle back a little, like 75, and forward to 90 to slow down again. But I don’t know if this is best practice since you’re losing some vertical thrust
-
Pitch carots do appear in VSTOL master mode and the way to fly takeoffs is to place the witches hat on the pitch carrots and adjust nozzles and flaps continuously to keep the velocity vector on the witches hat. As speed picks up nozzle angle will reduce to zero and flaps will reduce to auto/cruise, and as speed picks up to 300 you can exit vstol mode into nav mode and begin climbing at 300.

I think we can all agree F-16 ought to have cursor zero function. I don't know why they shipped it with a TPOD but without cursor zero. But the fact remains that's how it is right now. I hope we get the function soon. I also agree a good workaround might have been to simply automatically "cursor zero" whenever going from AG to another master mode, or something like that, but that's not how they chose to implement it so we're stuck with this.

[CORRECT AS IS] MAN RNG knob (axis) implemented yet?
kengou replied to sirrah's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
MAN RNG is for TPOD zooming, not radar related AFAIK. Radar elevation knob is going to change radar elevation, while radar range is controlled via the TDC cursor moving to the top or bottom of the page (or by clicking the MFD range buttons). -
Certainly not. This isn't Ace Combat.

I greatly prefer the Air Force way of doing things. The RWR hits clutter up the SA and HUD displays and I find them much less readable than a large dedicated RWR right next to the HUD.

I don't believe the content of MFD screens are all classified - nearly all MFD pages for many many aircraft including Hornet, Harrier, and Viper are publicly available in NATOPS or equivalent documents. The Harrier's documents for example, which are unclassified, show pictures of most MFD pages in some form or another. Same with Hornet's. I would venture to guess that pilots who claim they can't show the screens in videos because of classification are referring more to specific content on those pages like GPS coordinates or weapon stores information or sensor ranges that may inadvertently pop up in front of the camera, and they don't want to risk that classified data being shown. But it's that data, not the layout or function of avionics, that is protected.

They do not have detectors. The AI just sees everything instantly.

Just flare preemptively when you know you’re within IR missile range until you can be sure the bandit isn’t at a good angle to fire anymore. That might mean dropping 20 flares in a row just “in case” but it’s better than dying.

Unfortunately the claim that the F-16 wouldn't affect the F/A-18 wasn't true, nor was the claim that they were two separate development teams. F-16 is certainly the purchase I regret the most at this point.

It's not about stability. It's about new features. Enough of the people who play multiplayer want to test out the shiny new toys as soon as they come out that the servers need to cater to that. And new weapons/systems/features/aircraft come out to open beta first.
-
Definitely not in DCS currently, and I know this feature is not in BMS. No idea about real life for the block and model being simulated.
-
Aside from visual/audio stuff with the aircraft and minor bugs I believe the Viggen is totally feature complete. I don't think there's anything more to add in terms of weapons features or avionics features.
-
My understanding is it's probably a couple of things. Ethical and political delicacies, alongside the technical/performance challenges, mean they just don't want to go there.

DCS World image quality - 2017 vs. 2020, which is better?
kengou replied to GeneralDynamics's topic in DCS 2.9
I prefer the 2020 image. Deserts and landscapes in bright sunshine are, well, bright. Not gray. -
I also felt kind of burned back when I bought this due to lack of campaign. If it cost $49.99 like Warbirds and Gen 1 jets I might be more understanding but it costs the same as modern jets (before prices went up on the newest releases). For how simple the aircraft actually is and how little content it has, it is not the same value as the Harrier or Mirage or Viggen for example.

The missile ought to go to the predicted intercept with the bandit’s last known vector And activate it’s radar at the appropriate time for pit bull. Obviously not so effective with a evasive bandit but may still pick up a bandit who hasn’t maneuvered too far off course.

Thrust to weight isn't everything. Hornet has much more drag than a Viper. It has less sweep to the wings, two tails, and the LEX.

Bricks are always onboard sensor contacts. HAFUs can be either onboard or offboard. Which it is depends on the symbology displayed. See https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/F/A-18C#HAFU Basically, the top half of the symbol represents onboard sensors. If the top half is missing, it is datalink-only and your radar cannot see it currently. And if the bottom half is missing, only your sensors see the target. The exception (weirdly, imo) is hostile tracks, which are a small empty diamond (full top and bottom half) when transmitted by datalink but you haven't picked it up yet. When your sensors pick up a confirmed hostile target, it has a number inside the HAFU indicating its priority. That's how you know for sure. So you see a HAFU but it isn't picked up by your radar. Now what? Go to your SA page and cursor over the contact to see its altitude. Then change antenna elevation on the radar to pick it up.

You won’t find anything under the Supercarrier section, or instant action. the Hornet will have missions under the “missions” section that say Supercarrier in the name, that’s the quick way to play around with it.

I have one I’m meaning to get rid of, shoot me a pm and I’ll just sell that to you.
-
Weakest part of your build that is causing your pausing and stuttering is definitely your hard drive. DCS requires an SSD.

The "autopilot" in the Huey is a simulation of the co-pilot taking the controls. He can be commanded to orbit or cruise straight and level. It's rudimentary but it's a simulation of something the real pilot would have access to.
-
It’s not too bad but don’t expect to be super accurate. Set sight to -80 mils, dive at 30ish degree angle with sight a little below the target and let the sight “walk up” to the target. Release multiple bombs and pull out before 1500 ft or so. Should get in the ballpark.
-
This game aims to faithfully simulate the real thing as closely as possible. If it didn’t have an autopilot then they shouldn’t simulate one.
