I'd say every 3 weeks is a bit more accurate. The current delay of several months (since late December) is because there's been a lot to get right on 256 & it's had a bunch of teething problems that ED are getting corrected. Once it's good to go, it's fair to assume we'll be back to the old schedule. Jasonbirder is being perhaps purposely misleading in his post asserting that stable is no longer being supported. This is par for the course when he was unhappy that individual content wasn't being updated individually, despite several people explaining why this couldn't& shouldn't happen. He has conflated this unusually long update cycle with 'stable not being supported' , which is completely fictitious as bignewy mentioned To the OP: whether stable or OB is best for you, if you play multiplayer, it sounds like OB is the way to go. If you can't wait to have the latest updates, even in a semi tested state, OB is for you. Laobi, when talking about early access hits the nail on the head at about 7:30 of the following video. The same exact logic for whether early access is right for you could be said for whether open beta is for you You can also enable open beta from steam, but I would highly suggest switching over to standalone- regardless of stable or OB. I don't believe you accumulate miles with steam purchases the way you do on ED's store, and with those you can garner a significant discount on future purchases Personally, I play standalone stable. I started on steam, I've tried open beta, but I prefer fewer yet more substantial &less buggy updates. I don't play multiplayer, and if I don't have the latest features enables now...they'll come in time. In the meantime, I have plenty of content to work thru . YMMV

I've noticed this with other aircraft, not just a-4. Never thought much about it tho
-
there is the possibility that it didnt sell well enough to warrant further development- programmer hours could be allocated to which modules are more widely adopted. kinda why i imagine ns430 is in vr for only two aircraft, and yak52 is in the state its in- low market penetration = low priority
-
Unless their plans changed, yea youre wrong http://www.aviodev.com/?page_id=74&lang=en But aviodev is meticulously working thru one mod before talking much about others.the opposite of razbam's approach (not intended to dump on raz or anything, just a different approach)

Patience is what its all about. Ive got two warbirds left to buy. Realistically, between owning all the dcs content& il2 content, i have more than i can ever hope to work my way thru. At some point, its just a matter of supporting devs. 90% of my flying at the moment is done in the ka50&mi8,but when sale time cones around ill chip in $20-30 for a plane i might not have any interest in. Sometimes, like with the yak52, im pleasantly surprised. Others go to the "ill get to this after ive worked thru the others " pile

+1000000000000000 Ive got just about every module, even ones that dont interest me& ive never paid full price for any of them.

Regarding the first half of your post, in a word: yes. Stable waits till ED feels the current batch of bugs are quashed and they're ready to take on the next round of bugs. You either wait, or you change over to OB. It's a binary choice, and that's not going to change. If it's documentation you're itching for, it's a PDF, someone with OB can send u a copy. I know the same has been done for the DCS manual. But frankly, this is picking and choosing the lowest level changes. It's been explained multiple times why it's done the way it's done, and the fact is it's not going to change. This is an unprecedented update cycle, so there's absolutely no reason ED should change how they push out updates on account that some of us have to wait during a particularly troublesome update. Like I mentioned earlier, we normally see updates every 3 weeks. 4 months is completely out of the norm. And as it's already been noted, many of these changes are version specific, often in reaction to changes brought about by a new dcs version

If I had to guess, I'd say you're close. I would assume that stable would be updated just prior to release of supercarrier to OB.

Body armor will do that to ya IRL , and considering the gazelles armor is pretty non-existent, it stands to reason crew would be armored up. That's just my assumption, at least- I have no reference saying one way or another if they wore it or not, but it looks that way and seems plausible

Not really a fair question. "Patience" is the watchword of Stable, and this period of "months and months and months" between updates is pretty unprecedented. Previously it was stable update about every 3 weeks average. And if for no other reason than proper version control, yes it is necessary. I do electronic maintenance on industrial machinery, and we have one supplier who tends to play fast&loose with version control when doing updates...well, that was until a near catastrophic failure, and we locked them out (one of their patches was made to an earlier version of the software -they were working with multiple versions in-house - which wiped out vital information from a previous patch made for a later version of the software) It may suck having to wait, but that's what we have to do. Heck, it seems the Jeff may be out of early access before us early adopters on stable get to see it, but it is what it is. It may suck for some of us not having hotfixes the way you mentioned, but from a big picture perspective it's better to have 2 versions out in the field rather than a whole chaotic mishmash of versions by allowing all 3rd parties to release updates to stable whenever they pleased

2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
ngreenaway replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
They could simply be showing off a new toy they got. Is there a newsletter this week? I hadn't noticed anything -
the pictures were done by someone with a tamiya model kit, but the verbiage in the story gives an interesting glimpse into f14 history

+1 I wish this was a macro'ed response amongst the Smiley's here, I could see it being used frequently on the dcs forum
-
Same here. Reading it on lunch break now

I have no idea what more you feel ED needs to explain, they already did when you elected to go OB: Here's what they said on the download screen "What is DCS World Open Beta? We operate two versions of DCS World, the Open Beta version and the Release version. Because DCS World is a "living" project that changes daily, it's possible for a project-wide bug to work itself in and make the game unplayable for all. To prevent this and add a level of protection, we adopted Open Beta and Release versions. Most every two weeks (sometimes more with hotfixes) we create a new Open Beta version that comprises the changes from the prior two weeks. Although this first goes through both internal and closed-external testing, it is possible for errors to slip through. In this case, the Open Beta is utilized to identify a "blocking" bug that prevents all customers from playing the game (not just customers of a single module). For those that take part in the Open Beta, we greatly appreciate it and thank you for your testing efforts. If a "blocking bug" is present in the Open Beta, we always have the Release version available. This is why the Release version is sometimes called the Stable version. As such, the Open Beta version is for us to "field-test" new changes and check for any DCS-wide "Blocking" crashes, and the Release version is the result of the previous Open Beta that does not suffer any "Blocks." As with Early Access, Open Beta is an option and may not be for everyone."

Pretty airplane, too many engines for dcs, Our maps too small A neat airplane doesn't always make a compelling sim.

When will 2.5.5. stable get the 2.5.6. update?
ngreenaway replied to wernst's topic in Installation Problems
If I had to guess, I'd say we're still perhaps two weeks from a stable update. I imagine next week will bring hopefully a final OB update to ensure its ready to go stable -
It's all bueno. Your English is better than my ____________ (fill in the blank with virtually any language other than English). I figured it was a typo, but as I had only woken up about 10 minutes prior, it struck me as funny.

Nice! I don't know where insects are considered currency, but I'm digging up an anthill and coming your way!
