How to do the Oilfield mission 2?
ngreenaway replied to keem85's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
to each their own. i fly the mi-8 from the left seat, the instrumentation is better. F10 isnt so much cheating as it is the equivalent of having a navigator communicate course corrections to you. like many other features, its a "dont like it?dont use it" sort of thing I mentioned in my review on steam of this campaign that one of its strengths is that it doesnt require mastery of all systems from the get-go, if you want to get used to vfr& dead reckoning with the compass, you can. if you want to spend a few missions fiddling around with the ark-9, you can. same with ark-ud. same with diss-15. you can mess with doppler during your slingload hookups, you can do slingload from the rear cabin. the campaign is a great lab where you can practice any of the competencies at the rate you want to and be able to focus on them & not worrying about getting shot in the process -
The tried and true Two Weeks But seriously, I'm curious what needs to be done still or what remaining conditions need to be met before release.
-
Give it a break, birder. I don't know how many times it's been explained that stable update isn't condition based, and they haven't known how long it would take to iron out all the wrinkles. It's easy to estimate how long it takes to code a module It's a different thing to estimate how long it takes to troubleshoot wide ranging and conflicting fault reports

DCS: Roadmap (unofficial - NO DISCUSSION HERE)

Raz has a pretty full plate and they seem to be continually adding projects. As they are still doing much to complete the m2000 as it is, I think it's unreasonable to believe that they should switch gears and upgrade an unfinished projects into a different variant. ED is doing that for a second time with BS3, but that's continued evolution of a very, very legacy product. Additionally, balance as it exists in other games doesn't exist in DCS, and thankfully not. That leads to aircraft which are accurate, but "competitiveness" isn't a consideration, nor should it be. The m2000 is a fun plane. Enjoy it for what it is.

ED & Red air: In all reality, our most likely chance of getting full-fi red air is thru a third party that doesn't have the same restrictions as ED. There are plenty of former client states that imported russian aircraft, and theres enough of them in private ownership that it shouldn't be impossible to come up with the info needed to put together a module. Considering the demand for such a thing it could present a lucrative opportunity for the right dev

Starting to? ED has been clear about that for quite some time

my take was that it all seemed very much a solution in search of a problem, but to each their own -
I agree with you there. The airframe has potential, but wont likely ever see the light of day

How to do the Oilfield mission 2?

like i said, try flying a compass heading& measure out the distance using the tool on the f10 map. when you get close, youll hear voice actor say "tower in sight, prepare for landing" i didnt play with doppler or radio navigation till i was pretty close to the end -
i have a whole bunch of images & info on the SU-25UTGs from two of Yefim Gordon's books on the su-25 im not sure if its shareable on forum to upload pics of pages out of a book, so i wont but suffice to say, it could be an interesting model to add. It could be a segment to an interesting campaign along the lines of the kursant campaign. Start out with basic flying & gunnery in the l-39, progress to the su-25utg for flights off the land based carrier mockup, then onto su-25utg flights to&from the Kuznetsov, finally progressing to su-33 as a fully qualified newly trained Russian naval aviator. the soviet navy had about 50 su-25s. 5 UTGs were retained by Ukraine during the breakup, yet at least 2-3 of those were returned to Russia, still wearing Ukrainian insignia

i dont think deka personally owns a jeff, yet we have it. what im saying is the lack of weapons isnt a valid consideration as to why a plane cant be brought into the sim doesnt matter how or why a model was made in dcs, the fact is we have unarmed aircraft. so what if this variant of the su-25 was a test bed, a trainer, or unarmed. its an existing airframe in the sim that wouldnt take much work to adapt it so that people who want to recreate those test flights have the ability to do so. dont like it? dont fly it, its that simple frankly, i dont care either way. i just dont see the objections to it being particularly valid or consistent with the planes we already have

i recently completed the campaign. the sub base is super close to where you take off from. bring up your f10 map, see the cluster of stuff a few kilometers from where youre at? thats the subbase, takes maybe 2 minutes top getting there make sure youre tuned into 126.000 mhz on the center console. i didnt use the doppler system for much of the campaign, just adjust your compass to whatever heading is in the briefing (the crew will mention it when its time to take off from sub base as well) and follow that till you see your destination. doppler system is good for tracking distance traveled along your azimuth, but you can plot your course on the f10 map -

apparently you've never experienced carburetor icing on a warm sunny day. I have, in an old Volkswagen, had to take a hammer and screwdriver to open the throat back up (manifold heat was clogged¬ working) you dont need to be colder than 8c in order to experience ice

Didn't stop us from getting yak 52

Which airframe? If you've enabled it in vr on the special tab, it will show up in the mi8 automatically. On the l-39, it'll show up if you have the gunsight dismounted. It would be nice if it could be used in vr in a few more airframes (I'd like to see it in the uh-1 and yak-52, I've seen a photo of one mounted in a mig21)

I think the only things less interesting would be a strategic bomber or strategic airlift, but to each their own If it ever happens, enjoy. -

I'm gonna add my dos centavos here and say I have no problem with the state things are in, and would have no problem with the current status quo being in place indefinitely. Endless early access? Frankly I don't care. I see it as the module being in a continual state of evolution. Do I need or want every system running as on the real life counterparts? Noap. Give me "good enough", and I'll be happy as more features continue to evolve. I know there's people in the MP arms race who can't wait to have the latest and greatest, but personally it wouldn't hurt my feelings if MP ceased to function. I'd still enjoy DCS just as much. I'm not going to armchair-CEO. I'm sure if ED needed an additional revenue stream, it would be in place. I'm not convinced than an influx of cash equals a faster development cycle, and even if it did........so what? -
