BETTER 3d in VR (greater depth) !!!
unlikely_spider replied to pastranario3's topic in Virtual Reality
I changed the five settings and just applied to the default global profile, but don't see any changes. On a Reverb G2. -
I'm with you. Even with airframes that I'm comfortable with, I like an intro phase to get to know the story, local environs, etc.

I agree, at least from a narrow gaming perspective. Too many games have arrows, minimaps, aim assist, and generally hand hold you throughout the whole thing. And if you want a flying experience that does that, there are plenty of other choices. Hopefully the success of Elden Ring shows that people are still hungry for difficult single player experiences. I think DCS is in the same vein. The reward from performing your first good carrier landing, AAR, or pinpoint guided bomb on a target from 20k feet, is much greater than it would be if everything in this sim were gamified and arcadey.

Hey, I like the storytelling and banter. It's one thing that gives dcs campaigns personality over other sims.

Non-centering Pedals?
unlikely_spider replied to dresoccer4's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm pretty sure that with the Crosswinds you can just take out the spring and put in a detent-less cam. -
I had requested advice for mission 5 after being shot down a couple of times. You can see my post I just did in that thread just in case I may add undisclosed spoilers to this thread.

Fyi I was able to get past the show of force and manpad by flying as low as possible, like you said, twisting and turning like a madman and releasing (probably) way more flares than needed. When I was safely out of range I climbed to approx angels 18 and hit them with the remaining gbu, which let me freely strafe the two trucks going towards the downed pilot. Before strafing the trucks, I did order the wingman to attack, but he missed them by a mile. I know that gps-guided bombs are not the correct application against moving targets - maybe that's why. But I had guns available for them myself fortunately.

I've had so many issues in the past with other land-based campaigns with other flight members running into me, not taxiing, not taking off, etc that I think this is a good workaround to avoid all that, and just meeting at WP1. It's reminiscent of the procedure for Case III missions from a carrier that I've seen in other campaigns, so the general idea is not totally unbelievable.

FPS Killer 😓
unlikely_spider replied to D-Brando's topic in F/A-18C Operation Cerberus North Campaign
Can confirm this matches my experience too. -
The mark of a good relationship - when you actively pretend that it's her when doing "single player"

Yes, I think that's normal. I believe you can change which eye in the F-18 special options menu.

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
unlikely_spider replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes, this is the correct advice. But also for those of us that have an AM4 CPU, we're awaiting sim-specific benchmarks to see if it's worth $450 to upgrade from our existing hardware! (A 5600x in my case) -
Congratulations, you've discovered one of the major shortcomings of the tech. "Hey, it's 5pm. Should I pour myself a cold one or should I strap this little monitor to my face and isolate myself from my family for the next 90 minutes?" But I'm sure ol' Zuckerberg is hard at work solving this issue as well.

Throttle for attitude, stick for airspeed.

Mission 4 - Where is Bravo 6!
unlikely_spider replied to zildac's topic in F/A-18C Operation Cerberus North Campaign
I thought that having to search for the frequency was pretty cool - I don't think I've seen that before. The little things that are in the missions to further familiarity with lesser-used cockpit functions are really nice. -
Great campaign so far. I have some questions about mission 5: When entering coordinates of the main target from the kneeboard, I used precise coords, but they were still off (I later realized that WP4 was right on it). But then later the coords relayed to me of the A-10 were off as well and I just found him via smoke. Do I need to change the format when entering them? What is the best way to avoid manpad missiles when performing a show of force at low altitude, which makes me a great target? At which altitude am I safe from them again? After the main target, I have one GBU left which I assume I can use to take out the troops before safely going guns low on the approaching trucks. I assume these are IR missiles since I didn't get a RWR warning? I did hear my wingman call out the missile. Are manpads always heat seeking? Thanks for this campaign. You've really gone above and beyond with the immersive elements, including all the comms and the included documentation. I know I'm going to have many hours of fun ahead.
-
They're just wearing camo and thus are really hard to see.
-
Did you select the cargo through the comms menu, and have auto hook active? I have auto hook and auto unhook bound to hotas buttons. Hit auto hook before picking up, then auto unhook before dropping off.

Aren't there a lot of impressions under the forum section for the campaign? It's a Reflected campaign so you don't have to worry about quality.

resolved DCS 2.7.11 - VR cursor persists too long

I think you're in for a disappointment... -
Likely you have to use the Skatezilla Updater Utility

I think we should pay for the new CAUCASUS????

From what I am reading, yes -
Just want to say thank you!
unlikely_spider replied to Pasopati's topic in F/A-18C Operation Cerberus North Campaign
Good sentiments. Which methods are people using to find the 331 and 302 corridors when visibility is low? (Especially since the map function doesn't seem to work on the HSI on the Hornet in Syria) I can use the TACAN and enter the appropriate course line so that I intercept the Falcon and Eagle points just fine, but if there's cloud between me and the ground it's kind of hard to find where the corridors are before that. I think in mission 3 I overflew one of the restricted areas and thus didn't receive a 100 score. If it's complete VFR conditions it's not an issue, obviously, but otherwise I may have to tolerate some negative comments from ATC or a less-than-perfect score at the end -
Sounds like a good way to create Nausea Simulator VR!
