Yep, SteamVR amd WMR betas.
-
I found how to disable it - in case anybody else wasn't aware: From within the SteamVR Settings, go to "Dashboard", and click the "VR Dashboard on System Button" toggle switch to "OFF". (And here I was thinking I had to use a VR controller for the task of closing the Dashboard each and every time I wanted to hop into DCS now...) ;)

I haven't flown DCS in a little while, only to find out that the updated SteamVR version now shows the Steam Overlay by default - and I don't know how to close it (or prevent it from loading by default). What I usually do to launch DCS is is 1) fire up WMR, 2) put on my Reverb, 3) use voice control and say "Go to Start", "Page Down", "Desktop" and then use the mouse to double-click on DCS, and then close the virtual desktop and DCS starts. However, now I get this huge Steam Overlay in the middle of my view as soon as I put on my headset, and it won't go away - even when DCS is already running. I don't know how to toggle it off. It uses some form of pointer that follows my head around, but it doesn't work with the mouse. Needless to say, I don't use my VR controllers at all when flying DCS, they're not even close by. All I got is my mouse and my HOTAS. Any advice? I am sure I am not the only one who ran into that as of late. :) PS: Highly preferred if someone could tell me how to prevent this Steam Overlay from launching ... I checked and I cannot find it in the settings. Thanks!

Sounds all good to me - pressing buttons and moving switches is done with the mouse, and taking advantage of the latest VR stuff means you get to enjoy the 3D environment in VR. ASM here means that rather than remembering keyboard shortcuts or mapping those to your HOTAS (which most of all of us have anyway), you get to click the same button/switch/dial as the real pilot would manipuate in the real cockpit. Nothing misleading here.

Thanks for the update!

That's been an issue with at the core of DCS for a long time. Lighting should improve with updated core elements of DCS eventually...

Exactly. I am sure that RAZBAM was equally frustrated to the point that they don't want to have anything to do with this forum. I hope that this normalizes to some extent now.

Shouldn't there be a bit more of "lag" due to inertia?
rrohde replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
What if the RL pilot counters inertia on purpose - as they usually do in aerobatics? -
Silly question from an uninitiated - why is this thread in the Heatblur forum? Have they confirmed working on one? Thanks.

Naja, aber wie ein Stalker in jeder Razbam Post ... ist das noetig?

Google translated "gruselig" wrong for you; replace "scary" with "creepy" and it makes more sense.

... und dummerweise verwendet die KI das vereinfachte Flugmodell, was wiederum dazu führt, das die KI nicht die gleichen Limits hat wie der Spieler. Das kann dann sehr schnell frustrierend werden.

I'd rather see more 4th gen stuff in DCS (personally I am quite tired of cold war stuff myself); if it comes down to a 3rd party developer to bring us some modern(ized) Fulcrum or Flanker derivative, I am all for it. If it helps to push development along for DCS, the respective export variants would do just fine.

Why is it So hard to land the MI 8
rrohde replied to tusler's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Isn't this tied to the engine RPM? -
@viper2097 - vielleicht mal was anderes spielen, etwas Abstand nehmen. Das ist ja echt gruselig was du in jeder Razbam Post machst.

A lot of folks are hoping for an Apache helicopter... besides that, there's a lot of speculation going around.

ED said "early February", so don't expect the OB update to hit - along with 2.5.6 - until Feb 14 if everything goes well. If it happens sooner, that's great. If not, that's okay as well.

Aircraft before the 1993 tech explosion for DCS
rrohde replied to Pikey's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I am on the other side of the spectrum. I'd much preferred it if ED would create modules of planes that are currently (or still) in service - so that ED could also benefit from military/government contracts to create desktop simulators for official use. We - the player base - would then in turn receive the "de-classified" module for peanuts (as we usually do). ED have proven themselves with full fidelity modules of modern aircraft ( F-16, F/A-18 ), and I would love to see this trend continue where possible. So for me personally, I love WWII warbirds, and then there's a large gap of disinterest, until we hit the 1980/1990 and beyond in military aviation. (mind you, though - I would still buy every module of any era just to support ED and their 3rd-party developers, but I would hardly ever use them myself) -
-
That's part of the "core" updates that ED is working on. Was clearly stated in their Jan 20 newsletter.
-
Same here. From ED, I expect a module that shows off their acquired skillset for developing something more along the lines of gen 4+ (at least one can dream). ;)
-
I believe that was a direct collaboration with Kamov back then (you could see Kamov's logo in the old Black Shark menu).

Thanks for this awesome video!
