  1. They all show up. But after messing around I noticed just something weird going on. When clicking those links, absolutely blank tabs open and nothing happens. But then, when clicking the address bar and hitting enter, the download dialogue pops up and I could get the files. Usually that happens without further ado...
  2. Just had a glance at the map, and came across this thread. Fun thing is that in DCS "Kobuleti" is actually Meria, and I remember seeing pictures of it with bomb craters, but those have been replaced. It's like this now: https://www.google.de/maps/@41.9293541,41.8638113,1818m/data=!3m1!1e3 Reason for checking simply was I couldn't find that airbase in the other sim to take off from... The moment you realize you're flying over a historic map almost on a daily basis in DCS
  3. Finally someone did a recording of that. I have that in the loadout screens as well, all modules, also affects the comms menus. And the worst thing, I can't get rid of that in the Rift, even when disabling ASW completely either via ODT or OTT. Proves again that the fps lock indeed is caused by ASW somehow being forced on. When using the Quest via VD, I don't see this at all, but my toaster doesn't handle the higher res of that in DCS very well which is why I'd still like to use the CV1 until I get a PC.
  4. I have yet to do this, just used the fuel slider and livery selector so far. I'll se how it behaves on my end tomorrow. The least I can say, the new look is 1000x better, as the old one was extremely hard to see in VR. Have you ever done a right click on a program sitting in the task bar under Windows 10? Takes ages to open that menu (well, actually it's something like 2s, but it feels like an eternity), was instant in all Win versions with those I operated on before (95B, 98, 98SE, ME, 2k, NT 4, XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, Server 2003, Server 2008). Shift+rmb which opens up the old menu is instant though just like in the old versions...
  5. Finally the RAM is being used... TBH this map is like 3 times the amount of one of the others. That's kinda expected... I did that already ages ago in MS Office. Every third word you write or number you enter, hit Ctrl+S. You will not regret it, at the latest when you ever try to use any professional Adobe software. Those literally love to crash up all day long.
  6. Just flew around Haifa in the Huey, was pretty much locked at 45, some spikes to 90 when facing the sea and still a bit of landscape and buildings within FOV. 3570k @4.4, 32GB, 1080, CV1, no PD/AA/SS, settings mid-highish. Basically, not worse than any of the other maps. And I do see like 30fps only at Senaki still. That airport is the Bermuda Triangle of FPS for sure. But that's exactly why I usually take my numbers from there since it'S rather demanding even without having units active. I had some stutters though, but they were rather short.
  7. He didn't do his Lester though...

    Fibre smile

Actually, what's fibreglass? *cries in Germany* (Danke, Helmut!) Well, actually we have at least FTTC in some regions (mainly big cities), and I could get 100MBit/s down because of that, but for most services the reality is completely different. Like YouTube... stutter free in 720p or higher without loading pauses would be a dream. One day... one day... Could be worse though, but I know more than enough people who're stuck at 16MBit/s or even less, and that's the vast majority. Like the ones that didn't have a VR HMD yet in the Steam statistics like half a year ago... Grats though
  9. Not exactly competition as you don't even have to pay for that one... and TBH, those that have been flying that one for 20+ years really must be bored of that certain airframe by now. But yet again, they keep on trolling on DCS content how much better their holy sim is. We're getting there. Slow and steady wins the race. You should update your facts. That percentage literally skyrocketed from March/April on. https://www.roadtovr.com/steam-survey-vr-headset-growth-april-2020-half-life-alyx/ And that is from May 2nd. Maybe someone should do some research on this just in the flight sim community. My wild guess is a quote of at least somewhere in the 10-20% range. There's one one place in DCS where you really should expect a massive crater. https://www.google.de/maps/@41.8398104,41.7988523,1820m/data=!3m1!1e3 I really wish ED adding a big one just there, at least 10 times as big as the Sedan one, just because literally everyone in DCS has thrown at least like half a million lb worth of bombs, rockets and missiles there in his sim life. Would make such a great aprils foal's... BTW: Admiral Ackbar!
  10. Neither of the DL links work, all dead...
  11. Well, in the video description of Monday late evening, probably just a few minutes before the news went up: But even then I guarantee, no matter how much it struggles, it will run better than the other sim, which is worse than the early 2.5.6 versions at least for me, literally a massive stutter-fest even on low settings - reminded me of trying to fly DCS 2.5 on a 3.5Gig video card... I think I get why they didn't include VR in the first place -------- Edit: ------------------------------------------------- Didn't want to kick off an OT discussion about other products here. Sorry for that. Just wanted to emphasize that even with lots of room for improvement, we really should appreciate how well DCS actually runs. Getting the "initial 2.5.6 OpenBeta" experience somewhere else on a released product is kinda... relieving Looking forward to flying in the Levant with something that does more than just a few canots
  12. I know this isn't the newsletter, but news though, and some very great indeed: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=283382 Thank you guys for making it possible to give us the map tomorrow already. Having the "September 30th" deadline from Growling Sidewinder's Nick Grey interview in mind, this comes very early, surprisingly. A very pleasant surprise. I'm definatly trying out the other sim today, but I'll sure fly over Israel/Syria/Lebanon/Turkey in DCS tomorrow and be amazed of the quality work that's been put in there. Just as a side note: Watched the just a few hours ago and was wondering how detailled it would be in the other sim. Well, bing maps doesn't have 3D photogrammetry for Haifa, and we can do our mil ops only in DCS... Keep on rocking!
  13. I see, someone probably said the B-Word When the team said they'd be due end of April, the bog roll apocalypse was rolling for almost 3 months already (though about half of that on measures), and the "full" Russian lockdown began early in April IIRC. I wouldn't put this alone as the reason, as there have been many like new devs getting into the stuff (and yes, that takes a lot of time, but eventually will pay up), the 256 performance apocalypse, the "we'll just fix issues first" decision and probably others as well. And TBH, after 4 months, another one doesn't really matter that much anymore. Take your time, I'm sure we'll be getting other interesting things to play with. And yes, I do want those Mavs on the Viper ASAP as well.
  14. Wars will never change. They're being run by jealous and zealous preschool-children who happen to be at adult age, they're always solely about money, economy and business and they'll either be won on the battlefield or in the court. Welcome to reality.
  15. To quote Wags, "they're evil". I'd like to have an AC-130U module though...
  16. No DCS video ever looked even close to what I get on my rig, especially regarding the ultra foggy haze - until I had Mustangs mod installed.
  17. As for the "licensing"... it wouldn't hurt if ED had the base, of course everything F-14 specific that is Jester would be of no use for others, but certainly there's a base to it that would be.
  18. If only... In DCS, radars detect even though buildings, or planes sitting inside a HAS. The moment you realize democracy isn't always the best thing... of course most people want the most modern stuff they ever could get while we want our olde cold war things with style!

    Skins wishlist

I always tend to say the more the merrier. Especially with liveries, since DCS still doesn't transfer them in network play like some other sims did almost 2 decades ago already. At least in MP, what use is in having a gazillion of awesome user made skins if only the ones who have them as well can see them?

    V or VP

Especially true if that was some "cheeky barstid" trying to aim a Stinger tube at you... every ms of reaction time here counts and can make a whole lotta difference, even if you don't hit him - he'll at least crap his pants. With having to align the whole 10-11 tons first, you might loose that duel quite easily before even getting to pull the trigger.
  21. IIRC the Ka-50 also has these engines... but of course a completely different rotor system. But: Even the totally different cockpit compartment layout surely would change how the thing sounds, at least from inside.
  22. The question simply was it they intend to add this to the Mi-8 as well. BTW I'm wondering what exactly causes this. Is it the rotor downwash blasting into the static pitot system? I can hardly imagine that it affects the dynamic pressure tube which is aligned purpendicular to the downwash. Then, wouldn't the altimeter also do crazy things as well as the VSI? Or is it turbulence caused by the pitot tube itself that leads to fluctuating suction on the dynamic pressure tube?
  23. Wrong. It's the CPU that is severely bottlenecking in DCS, literally everywhere. I rarely ever see more than 40% of GPU on my rig (3570k OCed to 4.4, 1080) even in DCS, expect for when sitting in the aircraft selection dialogue where it literally seems to melt, with the fans blowing at what sounds like 200% rpm. I've seen that in many games, so it's not just a DCS thing - for instance, I could raise the temp of my 3870 well over 130°C back in the day by simply sitting in the main menus of some games, it usually was at 40° on idle and at 60° under full load. Simply put, as long as DCS doesn't do multi core or even multi thread, it would need a 15GHz single core CPU at least to run decent in VR and MP with the SC that has some assets on it, if you don't wanna drop your details. TBH, I'd love to see how this performs on one of those OC world record rigs with liquid nitrogen poured onto them, overclocked to the moon. Fun thing about the shadows fps issue on the SC is that I absolutely had no problems with the first SC version at all while literally everyone was ranting about the low fps there, even with them set to high (terrain flat OFC), but then the first following update totally wrecked my performance and I haven't even touched the SC since then anymore except for some quick checks to see if it got any better. This really was one of the things I hoped to be addressed by those "we're going to do nothing but bug fixes for now" updates.
  24. I'm getting very vivid Vietnam Flashbacks to some undisclosed version around 1.2 just now. Those effects which had been added back then literally killed DCS for me in terms of render performance for a period of several years including two major hardware upgrades which didn't help at all and I don't want this to ever happen again.
  25. I guess they simply removed some older versions, I've tried patching back to pre-Tomcat 2-3 months for performance reasons after release and had to discover the same issue. The ones that are on Stable as well are up for longer.
