Charly_Owl Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) I must agree with the majority here: communication is lacking and it is starting to get on people's nerves. I have invested 300 bucks and I expect communication to be better than what we currently have. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but I feel improvements are in order if Ilya does not want it to backfire on release. Most people I know buy DCS products based on "oui-dire". "Is it good? Does it feel right? How realistic is that?" Most of the promotion work is done by ourselves (the community). I've convinced about 5-6 people I know to get into DCS products, and I think most of you guys do the same. If ED still wants this kind of promo work to be done, they just need to throw us a bone or something. If DCS WWII is to succeed, Ilya needs to stop putting us in the dark. Many of us (myself included) could make some serious promotion for the sim (youtube, facebook and other social media sites), but we need to have an idea of how the project is going. I don't care whether or not they are on schedule or not: I just want to know, even if the answer will not please me. We're grown men, and I'm sure we can handle it as such. Anyway, my questions: 1) Is there anything made to help improve framerate during combat in the P-51D? (I'm speaking about the stutters and lags during gun firing and low altitude flights) 2) Are there graphical improvements made for damaged components on DCS WWII aicraft? 3) What news on the SDK? 4) Is some testing being done for online missions? If not, is it planned at some point? Many of us firmly believe that DCS WWII "has" to have a solid multiplayer component in order to be successful. Thanks in advance! leafer Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Few people are having tunnel vision here. This wariness didn't just spring out because he missed a dateline or two. It's not even about his lack of communication, screenshots, updates etc. Unlike Luthier's old cult, I like to think the majority of people here are mature professionals with supermodel-like wives and children. The problem we have is we feel he doesn't care for someone who keeps hammering how much he loves aviation and simulation in those fund drive videos. He was constantly on the bullhorn at the start of the Kick campaign but once he got what he was after, the first goal, his effort staved off. Remember that? Towards the end of the drive when it was apparent the campaign wasn't gaining much interest, many of the backers were practically begging him to rewrite his rewards and to add Paypal in the hope of attracting more backers. Remember the apology he made for disappearing after the first goal was in the bag? Oh dear, I'm just terrible at marketing and I was even scolded by people at ED; he reappeared to reassured his backers. Then there is that dark time where his staff was ill and one fell in the ice or something, something so there's not much to show. :D I don't know... 1 ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Chuck -wags confirmed somewhere in the P51 section, that the p51 tracer problems are beeing worked on...but he also said, that the fix has to wait for edge to come, as they somehow cant fix it in the current engine. -graphical improvement on damagemodel is also beeing worked on, and definitely on the list of general DCS improvements...dont make me find a quote on this though...im sure ive read it somewhere, but i couldnt even tell right now, if it was wags or another dev...

Many of us firmly believe that DCS WWII "has" to have a solid multiplayer component in order to be successful. Chuck mhh, again, there are several hints around here in the forum, where the devs said, that improving multiplayer component, is on their radar.(like a dedi server, online stability,....) actually they are already trying to improve it,...i think especially with 127 there is an obvious improvement in online stability. now, thats an assumption on my part, but i think that once edge is implemented, they have more room to focus on this part of the game. besides, luthier also hinted, that they are trying to improve multiplayer.he stayed pretty vague about it though on purpose, and also stated, that they wont promise anything in this regard, but that the general plan is, to improve it, as he is aware that its an important thing to be successfull. having said that, i really appreciated luthiers inital communication...
Vlerkies Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) They owe me a P-51 key, based on the kickstarter funding. Now, maybe they sent it maybe they didnt, Maybe it went into spam, maybe it didnt. The fact is I don't have it. Now this in itself is not a huge issue as I expect ( as a level headed member of society) it should be easily resolved. Its merely a matter of principle. The real issue: There is absolutely a complete disregard for anyone that has an issue with this, or anything else for that matter, bugger all communication All correspondence is being met with a brick wall or just being completely ignored. In contrast I have had issues before with DCS products in the past with keys. I have corresponded with them and a few days later the issues are resolved. = happy customer. RRG, just ignore you completely, for MONTHS. Judging by their other promises, I expect this is their strategy, and it sucks. If I was Wags I would have a word with these clowns as the whole RRG thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and that will affect my decision making process with other DCS partners in future, and as such DCS itself. nick10 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I'm guessing this weeks update will include some excuse about how his lead programmer has won dancing with the stars but broke his leg while rehearsing and has been stuck in a hospital with no wi-fi access? 1
SlipBall Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Communication level is terrible and no one likes that but I'm confident the game will be released...I hope that its done well
Trooper117 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 There was no point in making any promises on communication... The only reason there isn't regular updates in my mind is because there is nothing to report, or they have run into problems and don't want it known. I followed the old IL2 team from the start. Couldn't wait for the 'Friday Update' each week, and the whole genre was buzzing and vibrant... then came CloD...

But hey you know best of course ;)

Vlerkies Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) In all fairness, ED may not be in a position, contractually, to publicly criticize the performance or lack of at this juncture. However, It's hard not to imagine them cringing as each week passes and their good name is tarnished further. I would be really surprised if some partner, using the dcs engine from ED, had free reign to do as they please and in the process potentially drag ED's name through the mud without consequences. Me, I'm not expecting any game or anything, just what was promised on Kickstarter and if there is a problem I expect it needs to be resolved cordially. I can only deduce that they are saying stuff you Vlerkies, we have your $200, we sent you the key and are washing their hands of it. That maybe so, but I have a problem with not having the key, access to it, or being able to recover it myself via some sort of online platform/logging a ticket, anywhere. If this is how they handle problems now, just frikkin wait till they release something that is a game/sim/flightmodel of sort, you will have no chance. klem Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I agree that communication could be more regular although there is the risk that with progress at this stage it will just give oxygen to the naysayers. For me one of the most dangerous aspects is the risk of this forum descending into the Banana forum mentality where speculation was piled on speculation and, among some posters, poison was piled upon poison. We all know what happened and I suspect the negative and at times vicious attitudes of some community members added some encouragement to closing that 'other' program down. It's too early to be so pessimistic, Luthier has explained the unexpected differences in how DCS go about, for instance, cockpit build and instrumentation. This isn't just some upgrade he's embarking upon. klem 56 RAF 'Firebirds' ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F mobo, i7 8086A @ 5.0 GHz with Corsair H115i watercooling, Gigabyte 2080Ti GAMING OC 11Gb GPU , 32Gb DDR4 RAM, 500Gb and 256Gb SSD SATA III 6Gb/s + 2TB , Pimax 8k Plus VR, TM Warthog Throttle, TM F18 Grip on Virpil WarBRD base, Windows 10 Home 64bit
9.JG27 DavidRed Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 yeah i agree, i dont want the banana forum atmosphere here at all...unfortunately, this thread has already attracted some of the usual suspects from over there... but the overwhelming majority here, acts rather mature, and so far, mainly reasonable critizism has happened. luckily the mods here do a great job, and im confident, that they will avoid a resemblance with the yellow chaos.
joey45 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Well, there's an update if you check your email..... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Krupi Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Yes, the banana forum was a horrifying experience and any positive criticism was duly was abused by certain people and then the certain speculating/negative members were given a demi God status leading to that "look how many times I got banned for telling the truth" point. I spent many many hours I really wish I hadn't trying to turn things around but of course really I just ended up making matters worse, it just became so incredibly hostile... No wonder Ilya barely talks in these forums I would be worried the trolls would start it all over again.
