I saw this a few days back and figured I would be a little more direct on the question. Has there been any work on an M1 Abrams for combined arms? I remember ED asking if anybody had reliable intel on the tank. I also remember them mentioning a DCS level armor sim. Any news on progress or if the project was a no go?

No official news about that project yet.

isn't it gonna be a separate module? it would be like adding full fidelity plane to flaming cliffs ;p

Hopefully not, as would kill idea of CA.

Fingures Crossed, it should be its own Module, BUT CA owners Prior of Beta-Release will get it for free.

:megalol:

Now that you mention it, since DCS World is free, it is really messed up that we have to buy most of the aircraft.

I to would like to see a high fidelity tank model in DCS world

I don't want to be a killjoy Guys but in order for players to get the most from This addition its vital the other vehicle's have been improved as well

In regards to armour strengths accurate modelling of the ammunitions ballistics properties etc. otherwise you will still have the scenario where a T-55. Can take Out a M1A2 at a unrealistic range in a unrealistic manner.

I like CA for what it is but its not a high fidelity tank sim in its current form.

They can get there, we know you are beating the eSims drum, but ED knows a thing or two about a thing or two ;)

I have no doubt that ED have the capability .

But do they have the will, or is it financially viable is a different mater.

I enjoy DCS as much as I do SB.

for the record the drum I am beating is for a high fidelity digital battlefield. And the only developer currently capable of achieving this is ED

With its excellent module third party concept.

In the same way not owning an aircraft under your control is killing CA.

If it is a seperate module you would still be able to command it via the f10 map , just not drive it directly.

I'd buy a tank module day 1

The idea in CA is that you can command units on map AND control them (drive them).

It would be like you could control any aircraft in DCS, but suddenly some aircrafts are dropped off and told you need to buy a module.

Sure if we could fly any aircraft now as game mode (view from behind) and in SFM level, requiring a key and module installation to get cockpit and AFM/PFM/EFM level.

Would you be happy? Some players doing crazy G maneuvers or acclerations while paid users couldn't?

Now if suddenly MAIN GROUND UNITS in CA turns paid modules, it takes one purpose to have CA away. Suddenly you don't have rights to control one main grounds units like you use to, for what you paid already in first place.

If something, it needs to be like in FC3, you get updates like F-15C got and SU-27 gets from SFM to PFM, but you don't need to pay full FC3 but just get the individual plane as own module.

That I could understand. If you want all controllable ground units and command ground units then get CA. If you want just drive one unit type, without commanding capabilities, get specific ground unit with low price. Or make specific country as full price module while CA has all countries.

I and my friends bought CA to vote the need for ground control. Support its development. And if now it would turn it is abandoned, not nice.

Maybe ED should abandon FC3 and request a full price for F-15C PFM version and coming SU-27 PFM version. Let the 6-DOF / 3D cockpit be available only for individual module owners, for full price. Let see how community would react to that...

I fail to see your point. I'm not sure I understand how CA would change so drastically with the addition of specific modules. From what I gather, they would function as any other vehicle would function but with hyper-realistic capabilities and cockpits. Without CA, you aren't able to give other line units, artillery, or CAS/CAP commands as a JTAC (since that's the point of the module). Without Abrams module, you have CA but without ability to drive hyper-realistic M1A2

I think ED's smart enough to know that they'll make a TON of money if they come out with realistic vehicle and Infantry models. Especially since SB seems to have no interest in going any farther, and Arma has pretty much died. There are FPS groups frothing at the mouths for a REALISTIC "Arma type" sim. But I don't expect anything until EDGE comes out.

What? lol

SB Pro is still in development and has a lively community. The team that designs it works on government military contracts so the sim is always being worked on.

Arma 3 is alive and kicking with a recent expansion released and another on the way.

ArmA 3 is the result of more than 10 years of development.

It is using an engine made specially for this purpose.

I don't know what you expect from DCS knowing it's a flight sim, using a engine made for this purpose and ED has no experience, no background, nothing, when it comes to FPS.

I'm more than certain, that this wouldn't happen. Most probably You will still be able to control the M1A1 using the old cockpit and model, while owning the standalone Abrams module will give You all the extra goodies :-)

So it would be like that FC3 owners gets forgotten and they would need to rebuy F-15 and Su-27 and any other aircraft from FC3 as standalone to get the PFM level modeling.

You couldn't fly the Su-27 before a standalone module (or FC) came out, so nothing changed for the end user.

You can drive the Abrams without the standalone module - it would be unlikely, that this would change with it's release.

ED have already hinted that if the F-15 became a full fat module, it would be an additional purchase.

So yeah, it would be just like that. How else would the module pay for itself?

Pretty much this.

Also, when you bought CA you bought a generic vehicle control interface with nothing more than a Wonder Woman hud view. There is a rather huge difference between that and what you bought with Flaming Cliffs.
