 Kudos to the Dev's for the work they're doing and to Matt for probably an event-filled Dec. 3 getting this info released.

The Newsletter has quite a bit of info in it regarding changes. Notwithstanding the angst for some who expected a release of both EDGE and the NTTR map at this time, my take is that: (not date specific and not having any knowledge of the business particulars of DCS), as EDGE and NTTR are mutually exclusive in development - that when a release candidate is deemed ready, EDGE will be released prior to NTTR in beta for a period of time (NTTR requiring a working EDGE).

This will enable any unforeseen bugs to be ironed out while the NTTR map is being refined. Having both released together would probably compound the bug reporting process. As a Director/Manager, I would prefer that EDGE bug testing be completed first and any changes made in it to be tested in the NTTR map to ensure nothing has broken. Once EDGE is deemed final then the NTTR map goes to beta when ready.

Rinse and repeat.

One step at a time in my perspective. These guys are working hard!!

So even though I'm looking forward to receiving EDGE and NTTR, I'm quite content to fly and evaluate the changes identified in the newsletter, even though I've evaluated them in the Beta, and continue to enjoy this great product as it moves forward.

Great news indeed, the number of modules I want to buy grows with each newsletter.

Like everyone I'm eagerly awaiting EDGE , the thing with the colors (which was mentioned in the forums before) got me thinking. I've been following the development of the new engine and while all the new additions like skeletal animations, improved resolution of the terrain, etc are amazing, what I'm most interested in is the new rendering pipeline.

I haven't seen a lot of info on this besides "new lighting system" or vague info like that (not complaining), so I'd like to know if anyone knows if EDGE is using PBS (Physically Based Shading), that could potentially explain the yellow tint thing, since PBS uses maps with no lighting information (albedo maps) and the old diffuse maps can look odd.

To be honest don't think that's the case, since it would require updating all the materials and textures, but one man can dream, PBS looks incredible on non-organic materials, DCS would benefit immensely from it. Has anyone more details?

Haha. ;) u know me too well Cato.

I just hope they finally improve:

1) explosions for ground units: Need debris...as pieces fly apart and debris litters the ground around the destroyed vehicle. Ideally some physical movement...havok physics... as the explosion rocks the vehicle in question.

2) weather FX: Spray off the runway or ground when taxiing in the rain or snow... Rooster tails off the wheels.

Oh, DCS, you are such a cruel lover. Long stretches of agony punctuated by short bouts of complete euphoria.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

I think they will be able to add a lot of new FX stuff eventually, although I would imagine a lot will come after release...

If Tonopah Air Force Base has included into NTTR, that can be a very interesting training area.

All this weapons range and red flag talk has me hoping that one day they will create a map of the CLAWR (Cold Lake Air Weapons Range). Long shot I know but it would add a little extra to this Canucks experience. :)

For sure. More than anything...I just want DCS 2.0. Don't even care about the new maps. Just want to play around with new graphics.

Looking forward to NTTR, anyone "freaking out" about the delay must not have been flying DCS for long, a lot of us have been waiting years, what's a few more months.

I'd love to see the Utah Test and Training Range here (to Include Hill AFB) someday possible added to NTTR map.

Since 2010.......

Exactly....I've been waiting for Nellis since first flying it in Beta 2, looking good so far. Can not wait to fly and operate out of an air force base I've been to more times than I can count!

I do hope the AI parked on the spots are placed there and not how they'll spawn, I would hope they would line up correctly on the taxi lines.

I'm going to be optimistic, these are WIP images after all :smilewink:
