upupandaway Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Well of course it would go both ways, people disappointed that the tools aren't out might look at this and say, yeah... that's really not for me. :) So perhaps that was the goal, to give people a better idea what it would take to create a map. Yeah, and that´s always interesting to see, at least to me. I would likely prefer this over my current job. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
upupandaway Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 ...and to create a collision model for each object seems to be very time consuming...:surrender: How they make that for the trees? One leaf at a time, I would certainly hope. Many flat boxes ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
USSInchon Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 One leaf at a time, I would certainly hope. Many flat boxes ;) Oh the CPU melting load that would cause. Light throughout the city would be dimming.
EagleEye Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 One leaf at a time, I would certainly hope. Many flat boxes ;) :D A cylindrical collision mesh for a tree would be ok for me. I wonder if a collision mesh could be made of any object type i.e. cylinders, tubes etc... Though collision for trees will probably be made complete separately. pered Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Well, if they apply to ground forces(Combined Arms), I guess they must define a rectangular box (trunk) and a square one for the leaves, that way tanks will be able to hide behind trees? Gotta catch them all bandits! :joystick:
Neon67 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 collision takes like 5mn to setup while the modeling-texturing take up hours (per model)
ED Team NineLine Posted May 20, 2015 ED Team Posted May 20, 2015 Maybe when we get closer I'll ask Wags if he can share some screenshots or more info on trees and what we might expect. leafer Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Me! Me! Me! :D But seriously - thanks for showing off some slightly "under-the-hood" stuff. I only wish I´d speak Russian. Are those really tutorials for future modders or professional 3rd parties? (I guess I kinda know the answer already) I noticed the Hakoya island on the Norwegian coast is being showcased in one of the videos - could there be a connection to the vague announcement by Cobra/Leatherneck of an "oceany" and "cold" map in production for DCSW2? Where is the "under-the-hood" stuff vid? ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Greekbull Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Hoping we see DCS 2 in the next month or so...almost to the halfway point of the year. I know it wasn't promised but hopefully something actually finishes on time this year. Be nice to have a new toy...and really nice to have a plane that's not a Trainer(another thing I'm hoping for) released lol I'm hoping something happens because I haven't started the game since I saw the latest videos. I was really enjoying learning about the A10C, but when it came to the missions the game was to laggy for me even on a good computer. Does anyone know if the new graphics engine will cut out a lot of the lagg on the campaign? I'm hoping to play the campaign with both good and smooth graphics. For me it just seem to slow at present, but the new videos look very fast and smooth.

joebloggs Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 There is no release date right now. I know it wasn't set in stone, but they were hoping to have it released before June. I remember reading about this somewhere. I take it we are not that close then if you were hoping to get some screens nearer the time then?

I take it we are not that close then if you were hoping to get some screens nearer the time then? Trees might be something they are still working on and tuning, if so, they wont share much on them as things change during development (ie like the grass we saw in early shots, and dont see it in newer shots). I know they are hard at work on everything, so me bugging them about screenshots of trees and collision boxes doesn't seem like a place I want to step right now, thats all I meant about waiting a little closer to release... purely self preservation in this case :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
joebloggs Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Thanks for clearing that up, but do you know the answer to my other question? Which was will the campaign be a lot smother on the current map once DCS 2 is available? Currently I get lagg on some missions due to extra units ect.

One of the benefits from EDGE is increased unit count. I would assume this should help out in this area. joey45 Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 There is no release date right now. Would rather have them say click here to download DCSW2 then have a date to wait for... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. NRG-Vampire Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 (edited) i just noticed now: is it a (newer) larger map ? with areas of utah, arizona, california ? seems it covers edwards afb, march afb, los angeles, san bernardino, palm springs on the lower left corner and the grand canyon on the right side (flagstaff on the lower right corner ?) http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2256929&postcount=1 Edited May 23, 2015 by NRG-Vampire
mwd2 Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 During the spring.... Some facts about the NTTR map: Airfields include Nellis AFB, Groom Lake AFB, Creech AFB, and Las Vegas McCarren. At a later point we hope to also add Tonopah AFB. The map is approximately 600 x 610 km. The airfield locations have the greatest detail (elevation mesh and textures of 2 meters per pixel), the center area of the map between the airfields (as indicted by the area covered by roads in the attached image) has the second highest detail (4-8 meters per pixel), and the area along the outside portions of the map have the least detail (16 to 64 meters per pixel). We will not see more AFBs! The expanded map surface just won´t have sharp EDGEs where you abruptly "fall off" the the map (similar to the area around Tblisi on the current map, for example). Perhaps this means that we will have elevation data for larger parts of the Grand Canyon to fly through, but it won´t be as pretty (initially). Who knows how EDGE will work with regard to the merging of adjoining, pre-existing map areas in the future... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
