Skate,

Would you be kind enough to address each question I have asked in my previous post as it would help me understand. I also do not understand "beta branch" nor conversion of the release (which release?) to "open beta" and if it was mentioned in the past I missed it.

You mention "Running the latest version ( what version of what and does it include my modules that I would have installed ?) would be the better option, or install open beta ( what is open beta ?) when 1.5 is released to___ have it install fresh..

Does this mean I should have the auto installer so 1.5 will install over 1.2.16????

Also I want to retain a copy of the latest stable update release on a separate partition.....does this mean I should have two versions of 1.2.16...one which will be changed by the auto updater changing it to 1.5? OR.....

Can I just install 1.5 by itself on its own partition and will my modules which will be installed on 1.2.16 also be recognized by 1.5??

Thanks, Laz :D

Hi, guys!

Question for you, I just got the DCS world open beta installed. What happened to the DCS world 1.5? Thanks!

Cheers,

Vincent

Everyone else has it.... Try running the updater manually.

Now that I have your attention, 1.5 is not released yet.

It's not due to be released until sometime in September. That info is in the very first post on this thread.

The DCS updater will update whatever version it is told to in the file

By default it updates the standard version to the latest stable release.

You could edit the file and update your 'release' version to the 'open beta' & then cange it all back again if you wanted the standard release as you wanted if you weren't worried about time and internet traffic.

Or you could have 2 distinct installs and run 2 copies of the updater, one keeping the 'release' version up to date, and the oher keeping the 'open beta' up to date (simplest if you have enough disk space & / or a life :-).

If you use the search function at the top of the page, you'll find detailed instructions on how to set yourself up.

The modules end up part of the install structure - if you have 2 installs you need to have the modules in each.

(branch is a reference to the structure of the version control structure at eagle - you don't need to worry about it as a term)

Cheers.

You just need to update your game. You don't need to do any thing. If your game is not updating then go to start menu there is manual update option just click that and it will automatically update your game to latest version. And by the way don't worry about 1.5 when it is released the game will tell you that new update is available.

What is beta. A beta may have bugs and may have missing some features. So beta mean it is still with some bugs. If you want to install beta 1.5 or current beta you can do with two ways. Either you can convert your current install to beta version or you can install separate beta version on same system, so it mean you have two installs one is original and another is beta install. I hope this will help

Better use of multiple GPUs (CPU multi-threading is not being pursued as it will provide little if any gain
OK so there is going to be support for Multiple Video cards. is there any word on the boost in performance over a single card?? I have a 980GTX and will be getting another video card in the future and run triplescreens in 3D Was hoping this engine utilizes more of the GPU especially the 2nd card??

@lazduc

we have two versions, public and open beta both can be found here.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/

all of your modules will work with them and update together, it is that simple. They are all downloaded and installed inside the sim via the module manager.

If you have the open beta installed when 1.5 is released all you will have to do is allow the update to happen.

As the devs still work on optimizing the engine, we don't know what performance improvement we'll see in september, let alone "in the future". Not even single card comparison data have been published yet, so I don't think You'll get an answer now.

Well I am Most Hopefull. I am very exidely looking forward to release just to see it for myself on my System ;)

EDIT: also I am worried what kind of vRam usage the new engine will consume??

Hey By the way SithSpawn do you play SWTOR?? or just a fan of the SW series??

Well if your GPU is running DCS 1.2 OK it should even gain a bit of performance in 1.5... All indications go in the direction that the move to DirectX 10/11 has improved FPS over 1.2

Considering what I saw in the videos and what rig Wags and others are using, I would consider to wait for 1.5 and see the result, before rushing to buy a new graphics card, when you can't know it will increase performance...

It's all in his signature, believe he has a 4770k with 8gb of ram and a GTX 980 Ti if my mind doesn't fail me.

There is nothing wrong with your rig that I can see, I am still squeezing life out of a 580 GTX ;)

Your words are very comforting, thanks :). The thing is that dx11 will put more load into the gpu, so the impact it will have is unknown as of now. So there is a little chance that the performance gain comes from the less cpu load but the gpu loses some.

I have upgraded my gtx780 to 980ti a week ago and got around 20-25% fps with 1.2 at 1440p.

the CPU is i7 3930K OK to 4.5GHz. So now i have a smoother gameplay even with higher AA. Note that GPU is affecting primary the graphic side of the sim, so you will not get fps boost on civil traffic for example

Currently on 1.2, while say on a server with heavy AI traffic (ground and air) and with anywhere from 5-15 people on, the fps is pretty low. Under or around 40fps @1080p with 970 SLI. With mirrors on it completely halves it, lol.

While Matt was playing singleplayer (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) in the streams with not much going on AI wise, the fps looked to be great. I just hope to see very much greater performance with online being that dedicated servers as well as the EDGE upgrade.

We will see soon enough, of course 1.5 will be beta and optimization will continue, the extra input from more people will be helpful.
