Tried but failed. Who thought cacti with collision model was a good thing:doh:;)

Strange thing, my aircraft wreckage dissapeared immediately

If you want to try it out the runway is near the Beatie NDB:)

Bit more North, just inland from Craster :)

Try the one at Groom lake, as well there should be a few more in the NTTR region that you can land at as well.

I was floored. After three days and multiple attempts at downloading, it installed an hour before bed.

I've been a flight simmer for a quarter-century now and have never seen anything as beautiful as this. Naturally I took the F15 for a tour of Las Vegas and was stunned at everything. This map is a work of art. The frame rates are exceptional. The sense of distance and perception of horizon is like nothing I've seen.

Talk about a new lease of life!

Having said that, I think it may well be a good idea to have a fictional airbase in the middle of some of that open desert as an option.

While this way will make the 'realism!' crowd very angry, there might be a compromise in here. What about making some kind of small placeable airfield that is placeable like FARPS in the mission editor?

Perfect for some kind of fictional setting and we won't hurt overall realism of the map. (Since realism / balancing etc. is in mission builders hand)

sorry for OT, I just wanted to float the idea, carry on^^

Hello everyone

First of all, hello Mizzy, it is nice to see you here again!

I have been away from Lockon/FC/DCS in the last couple of years (learning the 777, the 330 and 757 in X-Plane:))...

Like Captain Spears just put it, I have myself also been flying combat simulators since the first days of Falcon 4... Perhaps 20 years... I remember reading avidly the reports about the progress of Lockon on the forums, before it was released... There was a story (perhaps by BeechAVR???) about a lonely morning patrol... It made everyone of us dream... Then it was finally released (I was one of the first purchaser, and also my Nic Cole Lockon Manual of 2003 bears number 26 !!!)

then... the progress was regular, fantastic, well communicated by the devs and truly ground breaking! Lockon 2, Flaming cliffs, 1-2-3, the Shark, and most of all the A-10C with its most complex and realistic systems... But I must say, the only shadow in all this glory was the confinement to a single (beautiful) map...

Remember the Crimea Tour by Mark "Shepski" Shepheard and expanded by BritRadarDude? a Great mission just to discover the different corners of the map... The harbour at Sebastopol... the summit of Mount Elbrus... the hidden valley of Arkhyz, Lake Ritsa... All places where we all designed fantastic missions... it is all about imagination...

But now, for the first time in a decade, we are allowed to MOVE to a new area!! What a christmas present (of course, I bought the A-10C when it was Beta...) and I have never seen anything like this!

Like Captain Spears just said, 'The sense of distance and perception of horizon is like nothing I've seen. ' and I would add, the sense of speed! And, like Mizzy said at the beginning of this thread, it is even much better than the videos and pictures!!

Thanks!!!!

In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust...

In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D

Who's whining. I made what I think is a very valid criticism. I did say in my original post that it looks nice. I simply can see a very limited mission scope.

Coming out with accusations of whining seems like blatant fanboi tactics. Next it will be accusations of trolling. Just because I'm not running with the herd, falling over myself with fawning.

Seriously did no one at ED or in the beta test point out that some alternative airfields could be good for mission building?.

Maybe you are not the guy in question.

The scope of the map is for Training and Red Flag. Wags has said that maybe down the road they could add more airfields but its undetermined at this point. The map wasnt designed for side vs side missions besides Red Flag type scenarios. Its simple.

SOH will be following close behind, it will be more what you think this map should be.

Have you tried landing at any of the unprepared airfields yet? There is that ;)

Anyways, everyone needs to lighten up the attitudes, on both sides.

Devilman always comes up with interesting combat missions in MP, stay tuned.

What was that movie concerning Russian troops in the USA, "Red Dawn" ?

I'm clearly in a minority, but pretty underwhelmed by 2.0 and Nevada map. Its either Vegas, desert or incredibly low resolution texture areas without even roads. With 4 airfields, 2 of which in the same place. Not feeling much love for it.

And then there's 2.0: Maybe its the fact that we get an ' alpha' product. I'm struggling to see the great improvements made in the game. I think enabling sweetfx to the old build had just as significant improvement.

Guess i'll keep my warthog under dust sheets until its finished and try it again, all a bit meh.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion:doh: Personally I think its all rather amazing. I think JFX summs it up perfectly for the majority of folks who enjoyed/endured the limitations of the Caucasus map for the last decade and a half:)

Hope whatever you go play with gives you as much enjoyment as DCSW 2.0 will give me:thumbup:

Lost the torrent 3 times to crashes, moved to http - 100KB/s in Aus where I can get 6 MB/s on porn...you could post a few DVD's in the time it takes to download...progress is not always progress....consider selling it on a DCS SSD, you might be surprised...

already up.

while lack of appropriate spaced airports for jet to have the room breath, i have air started jets at 120km from bulls.

die hard is right my mission is up now. being a big fan of RED DAWN and devils woman being a fan of the book series tomorrow when the war began ( always a source of argument that red dawn is the original ) i have tried to make a mission along this theme.

the mission is named Operation_Desert_Dawn las vegas has woken up to armed forces in their back yards (and golf courses)

the object is simple. control vegas, secure your airfield that ensures that you can land and rearm safely. (in the middle of the map)

I hope to see you all there look for the MD-SIM.COM Server (USA EAST) for this mission

I feel your pain Mr. Burns! I think I had 3 failed DLs on just 2.0 and 6 (may have lost count) on NTTR. I started the process Monday night as soon as I got home from work (6:15 PM) and I finally got NTTR to get downloaded and installed properly this morning when I woke up (6:05 AM). To be fair it may have finished sometime in the night but when I went to bed at 11:30 it still lacked 5.5 GB. PAINFULLY SLOW and the 2nd worst download and install experience I've ever had.

Having said that, I'm happy it is done and my 5 minute flight this morning was enjoyable and had decent performance. I remapped my F-15 controls and did a Mach run down the strip just above the palm trees. No windows shattered, but what do you want, right? Then I dove between the Hoover Dam and the MO-PT Memorial Bridge at just about 0.95 Mach. I did it a second time to see what was dropping off the bridge (turned out to be car shadows "falling" below the bridge toward the river [wanted to point that out]).

The only other thing I noticed was that when I crash into the water (second dive to the river) the water crashes look very much improved compared to previous DCS versions.

I can't wait to get back on it tonight after the kids go to bed and see what else I can find!

I can actually relate to this. It's fantastic to fly over the traffic and the sprawl of buildings with a Huey but I think the amount of work that went into this could have been put to better use.

The opportunities here are very limited - it's a desert with a casino city, for crying out loud. And also, what possible military scenario can you imagine in Vegas - apart from Red Flag, obviously.

If this is just a showcase for engine capabilities, fine.

But if we need to wait for years (god forbid another decade) for another, REAL map, then it's a failure.

Why not work on scenery that would enable us to re-act a real-life (past or potential) conflict such as Vietnam or Iraq and would add some much needed flavor?

To be honest, some of the ED (and affiliates) decisions are beyond comprehension to me... like adding a bunch of trainer jets before implementing something like the much awaited Hornet? A Little Bird or Cobra for helis? Last time I checked it was still called Digital Combat Simulator.

It's like they didn't want to grow their user base by adding something widely recognizable that could appeal to the masses.

Because, all future maps depend on 2.0 engine.

Because, all future high-end DCS jets require baby steps to get there. Technology from multi-crew, faster than sound, ground radar developments in trainers etc. go towards a far more reliable final product (i.e. Hornet)

They ARE. Literally, right now. They are doing that.

I can't even.

Oh, btdubbs, NTTR is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

NTTR was created to fulfill features described during the A-10C beta.

For the A-10C it was/is the perfect map for training and Red Flag exercises... It will have a lot of life for current and future modules.

The years you have had to wait were mostly for the new engine to run the maps. In fact Strait of Hormuz is just around the corner.

The rest of your rant is off topic. If you dont like it, dont buy it. Its a simple equation. Other maps are coming.
