developing a exclusively unarmed trainer
The 312 is equipped with 4 hardpoints, and thus, is anything but "exclusively unarmed".

Still a trainer, whereas the Super Tucan is an awesome CAS plane with a turboprop engine more than twice as strong as the 312s.

Ahh I see thanks for clarifying. I misunderstood I was thinking this was a entirely unarmed trainer

Guys, there is a very clear and determined road map here, we know what we are doing and where exactly we want to get. Egar is fairly new into DCS development, and he will have a "production line" of his own in our DCS involvement. As for the Tucano, for some is "just a trainer" but for others it has been the main COIN/Attack aircraft at hand and many Tucanos have seen combat and even today, some are used against Al-Qaeda related groups by Mauritania. In 1995 they were used for night attacks by the Peruvian Airforce using NVG´s and Brazilian have used it against FARC guerrillas. In Colombia they were very active against FARC guerrillas as well, until that country purchased Super Tucanos, in Venezuela, they were used against FARC as well, and were also used in combat in 1992´s coup d´état(one being shot down by a F-16), while in Honduras they have their fair share of action shooting down drug carrying aircraft. In Angola, they were extremely active performing air strikes during that nation´s civil war.

The plane is a combat plane, while it was born as a high performance trainer, the very same capacity made it possible to evolve into a capable combat aircraft. 3 out of 13 operators have never used them in combat, that gives you an idea of the kind of multirole aircraft it is. Sure, it definitely is NOT an A-10 or a Su-25, but it´s a capable aircraft and you need to apply some tactics to use it in combat.

As for the Super Tucano, you can expect one after this one is released

The T-2 has nothing beyond carrier ops going for it. As an attack bird is even lacking in the weapons department since its loading capacity is quite limited. This is an aircraft solely designed for training pilots, whatever bombing capacity it has is also for training.

The Tucano, is primarily a trainer, but it was also designed to be used as a COIN aircraft with a respectable ordnance load. Greater than the T-2.

The Super Tucano is primarily a COIN, Air Recce and Air Observer aircraft that can be also used to train pilots. Different philosophies. It can carry anything that a F-18 or a Harrier can, except for radar guided weapons.

It can do ground based air intercepts thanks to the ability to carry a pair of Sidewinders or Israeli Pythons. I can carry a laser designator and guide GBUs or carry them as well. In other words it is a very powerful light attack aircraft. It lacks nothing in the avionics department with a full glass cockpit with 3 MFDs.

What about the old T-6 Texan II project?

Still a trainer

NO, it's _not_ "still a trainer". The plane has been deployed on combat missions all around the world, making it both a trainer and a COIN / light attack aircraft.

EDIT: sniped by Prowler111 there it seems ;)

It seems to me that RAZBAM has more or less decided that both will be developed eventually, which is fantastic news. I look forward to there being more varied options for ground attack.

I do wonder, however, if RAZBAM would consider making the EMB-312 Tucano a considerably cheaper or even freeware module, introducing an affordable mutli-seat training option for the multiplayer environment, whilst also providing the Super Tucano has a full priced module displaying a greater capacity and more in-depth systems. Whilst I appreciate that this sounds like giving products away or operating at a loss, I'm firmly of the belief, having flown the Mirage, that RAZBAM's quality would be demonstrated in the EMB-312 and actually improve sales for the Super...

Hmm, why would they give away an airplane for free? If we were talking about a FC3 level aircraft with SFM then maybe, but you have to appreciate how much work goes into a full DCS level module. And Razbam for sure isn't a multi million dollar company that can afford to pay their people for months without getting something in return. Sorry, but I don't see the big marketing benefit that would justify such a step.

Now don't get me wrong, I like free stuff as much as the next guy, but I think we have to stay realistic.

Awesome news!

I'll be throwing my money on both as soon as they're available (on Steam if possible).

Thanks for the info, Prowler!

I´m a firm believer our quality will be demonstrated in this module as well, Egar is a top notch 3d developer.

As for it being freeware..sorry, but no

From experience, large public companies will be more opposed than small ones to have one or more months without revenue!!! Shareholders expect returns, they're not there for charity

I think that's the main issue. A lot would actually really like the Super Tucano but the basic trainer model has far more limited appeal. Or is it the Super Tucano that is being made? If so, much of this thread is just a misunderstanding.

There is no misunderstanding, since the situation is relatively fluid right now. If we are to make a Super Tucano, a Tucano is a logical step along the way.

Folks, the only reason we are talking Tucano and not Super Tucano is time and resources. We are going to develop the Harrier after the M-2000C is finalized, something that will happen in the first half of this year.

So our main resources will be focused on the Harrier. We do not want to divert those resources from the Harrier into the Super Tucano.

Still nothing has been decided yet. We will very likely make a decision this week on which one will be done the Tucano or the Super Tucano.

For the record, everybody here likes the Super Tucano.

Makes sense & no big deal. The Tucano can be used for counter insurgency mission simulation, which is what I would want to use the Super Tucano for. I will still miss the word, "Super."

Is official? I mean will we get a Super Tucano after the Tucano is released?
