Snails161 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I bought a brand new all singing MSI system, 1070 graphics card, 16gb ram and a nice new oculus rift to throw myself into VR flying and initially it was great..... but now I seem to spend more time trying to balance everything to get a nice decent stable framework than I do flying! Don't get me wrong it's immersive until it starts juddering and slowing down. Anything other than a simple mission is like watching a slideshow...I hope I nice big VR fix is coming our way with 2.5 or I feel my days of VR flying are over:(

That is odd, I would think you should be able to run pretty smoothly - but I don't know the rest of your system specs either... You might also list your graphics settings - are you setting them in game or using Nvidia control panel? Drop all settings too a minimum. I mean ALL! Then test! After that you can crank up a little bit. The minimum settings are crucial!:D Running a SSD drive? euhm...dcs 2.0 alpha is more VR friendly then 1.5.6. diceman Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I just clicked the "VR" setting, and turned off "Field of View", put water to LOW and shadows to flat.....runs real nice and good frame rates just flying or in combat.
Snails161 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Thanks guys, I'll keep plodding on. It's too good to give up on. One last thing though what PD are most of you settling with?

I run at 1.5 PD, I have found it best for me - anything above I can see very little difference at a larger performance hit. Snails161 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Guys thanks for all the help, much appreciated, however....and this is the weirdest thing...in my last session using the f5e module, free flight as a benchmark I noticed large frame rate drops near the dam, all this was water on low along with most other things, but for some reason I thought I'd go the other way and stuck visibility to high...problem solved 45fpm steady. Not only that I found that I can run with detail and ground textures on high as well??? So In in a nutshell Detail high Ground high Water high Visibility ultra Shadows low Dirt off Flare on MSA x4 HDR on Cockpit 256( can't see a difference to 1024) Of 1.5 Antrascopic filter x16 V sink off Terrain shadows flat 45fps with asw on, the only drop being over Vegas( but still flyable)
freehand Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 The engine is a strange beast I have a very moderate system gtx 970 card and the more work I give it the better performance in return but not to much.

Turn off AA as at VR res with PD you won't really notice it. In normal VR titles the gpu is king. DCS, being an older engine only recently to be ported to DX11 and VR is way more cpu (clock) intensive. If you haven't, OC to at least 4.2 gigahertz if you can. That said, don't expect RoboRecall graphics quality out of this old beast. RUS38 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 (edited) How does one use the Oculus pointer to click on cockpit switches ? I map my mouse buttons to x55 throttle rocker switch(down - left click, up - right click) works pretty well, then point with my head where I need to click. Although I do keep mouse enabled cause I still use it to navigate the \ menu and I like how this way the pointer disappears when not in use. The only inconvenience is that I have to bring the pointer back to the center of view when I finish using the mouse. Edited March 20, 2017 by RUS38

ebenitez Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Hello everybody. I have recently got an Oculus rift CV1, and while is working perfectly with DCS World 1.5, I can't set VR in 2.0. As soon as I start 2.0, the Steam VR client opens an error message saying is unable to recognize any VR device and DCS World starts in normal mode (not VR) in my monitor. This is a very wierd behaviour as whenever I start 1.5, the VR mode is set automatically and it never calls for Steam VR client, always uses Oculus client. For some time until now I thought this issue would be another effect of my usual problems with Visual C++ runtime utilities, but after following the great guide for fixing 2.0 installs by Bignewy, I can fly again in Nevada, but not in VR. Could anybody help me to fix this, please? I'm dying for flying over Las Vegas's Casinos and streets. freehand Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I do not own the steam version of dcs but I know NTTR is not compatible with steam version.
Gruman Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Just make sure you are launching DCS 2.0 Open Alpha directly and not via Steam. SteamVR shouldnt even care about DCS. Make sure you disable any steam Services in the DCS 2.0 (Steam Overlay etc). There are some start parameters you can force VR mode. dcs.exe --force_enable_VR dcs.exe --force_disable_VR Intel I9 10900k @5.1GHz | MSI MEG Z490 Unify | Corsair Vengeance 64GB - 3600MHz | EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 VPC T-50 Base /w Viper & Hornet Grip | VPC Rotor TCS Pro w/ Hawk-60 Grip | TM TPR LG C2 42" | Reverb G2 | TIR 5 | PointCtrl | OpenKneeboard
ebenitez Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 One thing i forgot to mention in my last post is I don't have any steam version of DCS World, both 1.5 and alpha 2.0 are non steam versiones. ebenitez Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Thank you very much swissMAG, I modified dcs.exe and now it's working in VR.
