How do I get this ”ob” -version?

Vino,

we have little information what you already have or not.

In case you already have the 1.5.8 Release (stable) version you can revert back to Open Beta (OB) with the guide in the following link https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

The Version Number to concert to should be: 1.5.8.13504

After reverting back to 1.5.8. Open Beta you then may update to 2.5

My recommendation: if you are not familiar with CMD lines (DOS commands) WAIT and be patient though it´s not very hard to get used to it.

If you already have 1.5.8 Release Version yet you can wait a little bit then it will be updated to 2.5 Release Version. In this case there´s no need to revert back to 1.5.8. Open Beta before

If you do not have any 1.5.8 version you can get a download link for 2.5 Open Beta (new installer) here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/

The difference between Release Versions and Open Beta Versions is:

a) OpenBeta is always a fully functional test platform for any changes so ED can see if everything is working well

b)OpenBeta updates come out first and usually one (or two) weeks later it goes public for Release Version

c) advantage: you get all thats new FIRST

d) "disadvantage": you get all the bugs FIRST before they are solved (no major issue for me over the past years)

Hope this helps you to make a choice :smilewink:

where is 1.5.8 after update to 2.5.?

Sorry, my question has maybe been answered in the numerous posts here.

I’ve successfully updated 1.5.8 to 2.5.

For stage 1 it is said, that “1.5.8 release will remain at this stage so you can continue to play…”. But where is the "old" 1.5.8 now? I only can play 2.5. Where can find 1.5.8?

It's still there: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/stable/

Right, but in ED's defence, if I may, people who aren't serious about finding a download link aren't going to be serious enough to buy any paid modules or even learn the free stuff to substantial depth.
That may be true for some, but others will hit that leanring curve and learn as they go. They may "get the bug" and start to realise that they enjoy learning the sim. If they are defeated at the first hurdle they will never get to that point.

You know, some of us are busy people! If the value of something is yet to be proven, and there's an obstacle in the way, there are plenty of other things in life to do instead. A customer-oriented software developer looks at all possible barriers to usage and deals with them. Not everyone knows how good DCS is, and the value of investing time in it. For those people, they have to get into the product first and then they'll realise.

I've just fresh installed 2.5 OB, which seems to run nicely - and that is awesome.

Just a quick Q - I can't see the winter Cauc map. It was just a matter of selecting the weather, if i remember correctly, and that set a snowy map on the old 1.5. Now I only seem to have a summer map in 2.5 ...and that is sad because the snowy map on youtube looks great.

Maybe it's not released yet, or something?

Unless you're low on disk space, keep 2.2.

The 2.5 installer should ask you whether or not to delete 2.2 during the installation. But as long as 2.2 exists prior to installing 2.5, the installer can copy or move a whole bunch of files, which is a lot faster than downloading them all over the Internet.

No need to register anything. 2.5 will take over all modules you already have in 2.2.

You need to change date in briefing settings to be able to see another map types and change temperature below 8C.

Any help for updating a 1.5 or 2.2 install to the open beta would be appreciated. Instructions are lost in the mountain of posts. Old dos prompt update commands don't seem to work: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

You need to change Date of mission to real life month of season in the given maps area and adjust the temperature to suite season.

Here is a rough guide for west Caucasus map in valley areas below 2000m:

Winter = Dec to Feb with temps of (Nights = -7c to -10c), (Days= -2c to -5c)

Spring = Mid May to Mid June with temps of (Nights=?),(Days=?)

Summer = May to Sept with temps of (Nights = Cold),(Days = 16c to 20c)

Autumn = Mid Sept to Mid Oct with temps of (Nights=?),(Days=?)

Happy to be corrected if anyone has more accurate season data, just gleaned what I could from google about the real life area, haven't tested as yet.

Regards, Ian.

Efficiency of New 2.5 Open Beta-Graphical Settings.

Currently I have 2.2 Open Alpha and will not be doing the big update until 2.5 Final happens.

Would like some feedback if possible regarding how efficient the new version is in terms of game and Nvidia graphic settings. Does it allow one to increase ones settings or is it even more resource hungry and therefore one would need to decrease graphical settings.

Am wanting feedback from anyone going from 2.2 to 2.5 and their thoughts re my question. I only play in single player mode.

Hello everyone. How can I "tell" DCS 2.5 that I have 2.2 on my disk, so new version won't need to download Nevada and Normandy from scratch over Internet? It's over 32GB of data, and with my current connection it'll take more than 2 days :D I've always had a copy of DCS installations, so I wouldn't have to download it every time I reinstall Windows, but somehow this time they don't seem to "see" each other.
