Any chance at all that we may see an FA-18E/F Super Hornet update or a completely new mod? I mean... They did that with the A-10A/C, and now we've went from an F-15C to an F-15E Strike Eagle. So it's only fair that us US Navy veterans get to see a Superbug someday soon.

F-15C was a Low Fidelity Aircraft,
F-15E was a 3rd Party High Fidelity Aircraft,

Not the same situation as A-10C Suite 3/5 to A-10C Suite 5/7ish, which were developed by ED for Professional Contracts w/ Permission to sell Entertainment Versions.

I am not sure of the feasibility of doing a Super Hornet. But I do remember reading that Matt Wagner had been trying to do the Legacy Hornet for years. It finally all came to fruition when ED got a license and access to enough data to make a full fidelity module possible.  I mention this because in a lot of cases it just isn't possible until all of the stars line up.

Trust me, if anyone wanted to see the super hornet it'd be Wags..
he was Part of the Jane's F/A-18 team waaaaaaaay back in the day.

I hope the Super hornet comes to DCS but I kinda agree unless we can get a block II it’s very difficult to justify.

maybe if it was ten years ago before the legacy bug was in DCS it would have been perfect.

maybe if DCS gets a Dynamic campaign like another well known sim the super might make sense.

Maybe someone will start the process the declassify some of the needed systems and get really lucky.

for now know it just doesn’t seem feasible. I think AESA will always be kinda a non starter but hopefully eventually systems needed for an early block II get declassified.

Block II Pre AESA and Some of the other defensive system upgrades, Pre HOL and Pre- ACS, is essentially Block I, w/ a few changes to the A18 heat sinks and vent system.

You aren't gonna get anything in the block II+ generation as they transitioned to HOL OFP from SCS OFP, and I doubt Boeing would let the encryption for the HOL OFP to go public.

Well for one thing, I didn't "demand" anything. For another thing, the Super Hornet is more than "slightly different" than the legacy Hornet. And for one more thing, we are in fact, getting a Phantom.

Unclassified briefing on APG-79. I’m actually kinda impressed by the content. Perhaps if combined with commercial AESA algorithms a simulation is possible? It certainly makes the Super Hornet more attractive.

Aint gonna happen.

I'm sure this has been asked for in the past and I wish for a 2 seat'r FA-18 Superhornet, High Fidelty version in the same way as the F-14 and the F-15E.

Thank you

With the last squads flying these aircraft officially set to retire soon, perhaps the information needed will also be declassified for an early model Super Hornet. I know a lot of people will have something negative or even derogatory to say regarding it, but I know a LOT of people would be excited to fly one, simply because of how popular they are. ED, PLEASE consider it.

P.S: I know there are threads regarding this already, but I'm not a necromancer, so I made this one.

A LOT of people would NOT be excited if they knew what an early Super Hornet really was and ED modeled one 😄 It's not what people usually have in mind asking for F/A-18E/F.

Regardless, AESA radar tech may be classified for a long time. As a rough quote I saw in a different post say “this aircraft is going to keep being requested until it’s eventually developed”. I think MOST people want a Super Hornet period….  Including me. I’m assuming Draconus is referring to the late BLOCK I AESA Super Hornet. Unfortunately, the reality is we will most likely have to get a Super Hornet from a 3rd party developer as it may not be lucrative for ED to essentially spend resources on developing a early Block I Super Hornet thats incredibly similar to the Lot 20 Legacy Hornet we have now. However, there is hope because ED may approach an early Block I Super Hornet as an upgrade for the Legacy Hornet in the same way they approached the A-10C II versus the legacy A-10C

Just having the Super Hornet, even if it's very similar to the Legacy Hornet would excite a lot of people, there'd be familiarity with systems, along with the added advantages of the Super Hornet airframe. It's a win-win.

Would they be happy with losing half A2G weapons?

Not to mention that with out weapons like 120D or even 120 C7. Your not gonna notice much difference in anything related to air to air combat.

You plane will be bigger and you'll have a GIB. But in DCS you're not gonna notice much difference.

Not quite true, the Superbug has beefier engines and would fly quite differently from the old bug. So, at least in a dogfight, you'll notice the difference, and having more gas and more speed is handy in BVR, too. In fact, you'd get considerably more range, plus there's the buddy store for AAR, which would be of interest to some people.

I would love to have the early Superbug. Avionics slightly more spiffy than our C model, but better engines, more gas and the buddy store. Even if it doesn't get some older AG weapons, it can still carry plenty, and it can fight better when fully loaded for AA. I say it's a good trade.

More powerful engine, but also far heavier. It has lower thrust to weight ratio then the regular hornet and lower top speed.

So you'll get an even slower plane. Sure got more fuel, but that's about it.
