Hey there!

Maybe I missed something elsewhere, but I see Wags hasn't published any new update since last week. Given today should be an OB patch day, are we going to get the JDAMs as initially planned, something else, or nothing at all?

Anyone knows anything?

Posted

Don't know if you picked it up, but Wags announced that Hornet updates will now be a monthly thing. The JDAMS had some issues, so they are still under wraps. When this montly cycle will start I do not know:)

Posted

Yeah, I saw that, thank you!

I was asking because, in the Hornet mini-update of March 26th, Wags said they were planning JDAM release for today's patch, but I haven't heard anything since then.

Also, don't know if they meant that the OB patches will be montly now, or just that there will only be Hornet updates every second OB patch...

In his last post Wags said, that JDAMs are preplanned for 10.04 (today). But we still have nothing....

Wags explained it in the Mini Updates:

Hey everyone,

After talking with the team today, I’m afraid that we’ll have to push the JDAM back a bit for several reasons:

  • Still some issues to resolve in the flight dynamics and auto-pilot when the bomb is released near or at maximum range.
  • We need more time to test.
  • We need to ensure that this new code will not break any 3rd party aircraft.

We will though still have an Open Beta tomorrow that will include LTWS and other elements.

While we are all disappointed that we can release the JDAM tomorrow, there is just too high a chance of it causing significant DCS-wide problems. If all looks good, we plan to release the JDAM in an Open Bea on 10 April 2019.

Hornet Updates, as Wags said in the Mini Updates:

In a related matter, we will be moving Hornet updates to a monthly event, rather than generally every two weeks. We simply need more time for proper testing to avoid bugs, break other products, and avoid the need for hot fixes. While waiting is always hard to do, this will ultimately provide a more stable and solid product.

We should be getting the JDAMs today... I hope. Or at the very least some fixes on reported issues with IFF, NCTR and JHMCS.

There's no doubt in my mind that the F-16 will progress much faster than the F-18 because much of the hornet development was to create a structure that can be used by both. Plus, they know the F-16 EA will provide a major cash influx, because lets be honest, 99% of us are gonna buy it... and no one will tolerate a 1 year delay between purchase and when you can drop a guided munition.

Yes, you are right...but now we need to tolerate the same for the Hornet. Almost one year, and we still don't have any full operational guided weapons (except IR Mavs). And we don't have TGP also, which is the main platform for using any kind of guided weapons....

Seems we won't have a JDAMs today. I hope it won't be the same with F-16CJ too, and it progress will be much faster.

I am amazed that we get these updates as regularly as we do. The quality of this sim is amazing.

I have never seen a simulation company as professional as this one. And they respond to us on the forum while sometimes taking heat. I would rather have something that works than something that's rushed.

patience grasshopper.

Also in this "cheaper, better, faster" society, you can only have two of those. Not all three.

I think that the problem with impatience is with the stable vs beta:

- in stable, of course, stability is priority

- but in beta, who cares if JDAM flight profile isn't optimal near maximum range, it is beta version and can have some bugs, and can be merged to stable when it is ready

the "bad" part has the stalled of the Hornet mini updates :(

Yeah mini-updates have been lackluster for a month. I'm guessing devs have been doing some other stuff on DCS.

Depending how ED are implementing their release schedules and planning, a release once a month doesn't have to slow down development. It can even speed up the progress if done right.

A welcome change if you ask me compared to what it used to be.

its a reasonable worry. ED has only so many employees and resources, they have to be assigned to tasks somehow.

No, it's not really that reasonable, the Hornet is a priority right now, only devs that are free of tasks on the Hornet are working on the Viper. Hornet activity is still just as heavy as ever, not sure why the worry now.

I agree with HereThen, slowing down the rate of updates could actually get more systems to us faster if ED manages their time right. People are always complaining about features not making it in updates or bugs introduced form rushed updates so I look at this as ED actively trying to rectify those issues. If it doesn't work it doesn't work, worse that can happen is more of the same in my opinion.

Yeah mini-updates have been lackluster for a month. I'm guessing devs have been doing some other stuff on DCS.

Or are working on stuff that is quite complex and needs a lot more time than some new weapons do (e.g. TGP or A-G radar).
