Yeah same thing I am seeing, the firmware update with the latest update on the PTC appears to have fixed the white static flashes. I have not tried it in flight sims yet, should be able to this afternoon but it is sounding promising.

 

Static flashes are fixed for me as well.

But according to Oculus static flashes were not even fixed in this update. Placebo?

UPDATE 7/25/19: Hi everyone - I have some good news to share! We're pushing out a PTC update for 1.39 today that includes an expected fix for the static flashing behavior on Rift S. In order to receive and test this update, please opt into the public test channel by going to Settings > Beta and ticking the box for Public Test Channel within the Oculus desktop software (if you are not already opted in). You should receive the new PTC build update shortly after you have opted in. Once downloaded, please give it a test and let us know how it goes! Assuming everything looks good on the PTC, we'll get this update pushed out everyone on the live channel as soon as possible.

 

As with any update, it's important to report any issues you encounter by utilizing the Help Center > Provide Feedback tool. Thanks again for your patience while we debugged this behavior and worked on a software resolution. We hope you enjoy this update!

Yes I can confirm for me with the new firmware in the PTC update my white static flashes are now gone.

Kudos to Oculus, my Rift S is now golden!

Very glad I hung in there with it since getting it on release day - May 24th.

Here I still have those static flashes, even after the last update. Mine is (1.39.0.268010) but I ´m not sure this is the last update...

After updating yesterday from 1.39 to 1.38.1??? (that's what Oculus said in the update Log) i don't have any static white flashes anymore. My Oculus-App-Version 1.39.0.272909, my Rift S Firmware version is 1.8.1

It's just a mirror of what you see in VR on your monitor so performance cost is minimal. The GPU is rendering the game for VR and then porting it over to your monitor.

 

There is some performance to be gained in certain games like DCS that allow you to custom set the resolution for the mirrored display. Lowering this resolution doesn't change the resolution inside VR, but what's displayed on your mirrored monitor is much smaller (because it's displaying at a new, smaller resolution), but it's usually not worth the effort as gains are typically small. YMMV of course.

Hey all.

 

I was wondering if anybody is experiencing challenges with the rift sensors being recognized? I seem to have issues with the USB ports. It asks me to switch USB ports and only gives me a black screen, or 3 loading dots in the headset.

I haven't really had those issues myself but the Rift-S seems to want a 3.1 or at the very least a USB 3 port connection. You also want to try and make sure that its not sharing the USB controller with other power hungry devices. It's not always obvious but a single USB controller usually handles multiple USB ports. Most motherboards usually have at least two separate controllers on them. Check you Device Manager and you will see.

 

You didn't really say but what is your motherboard and what USB port are you connecting to? Inside of Oculus Home, does it show that you have a USB 3 or 3.1 or 2 connection?

I use the regular (or stable, I don´t know what´s the name of the No Beta version) :) .

Arg now getting black screen, has been working perfectly until yesterday !! :( :( firmware 1.8.1 app version Oculus app version 1.39.0.272909 (1.39.0.272909) have done the reinstall etc no luck. have had no issues previously

Will be getting my Rift S tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone have a system like mine? How's it running DCS World with:

 

i7 4790K

EVGA RTX 2070

16 GB Ram

 

I'm hopeful it will be sufficient with this system. I mostly play single player.

I downloaded an IPD app on my phone and it told me my IPD is 61 or 61.5mm, will I have any problems with the default 64mm IPD on the Oculus S?

 

Nope, my IPD is 60 and the Rift S works great for me. The sweet spot is pretty big on the S also.

 

Also you don't have to use the 'default' - just set your IPD in the Headset settings in the Oculus App. I believe it positions the two images on the 1 screen appropriately.

Just got my Rift S today after selling my Rift CV1. Really pleased with the way I can see all the dials, numbers and HUD so clearly. It's a massive leap from what I had with my old Rift.

 

I wasn't expecting it be this good but man oh man I am one happy simmer!

That was my experience as well, along with very reasonable performance.

 

I dropped about 5fps I don't have a great rig. That's a trade off I am quite happy with. I have a wireless headset that I used with the old Rift but I am more than happy with the sound with the Rift S. I had heard it wasn't great but I like it.

 

BTW my wireless headphones fit with the headset no problem at all. Logitech G533.

same here.

 

randomly goes “blank” about 30% of the time.

 

a reboot of the whole machine fixes it.
