You forget any information ED gives out is somehow almost always used against them to whine about something, everything and nothing at the same time.... LOL

Thats just how we, DCS fans, are ;)

My point exactly :lol::lol:  .

Work has started, but not all finalized yet when stuff is a little farther out, they like to hold the info back till it gets a little closer. If we told you everything being worked on, your heads would all explode. wink.gif
Even though we all are somewhat used to it, sometimes constant whining gets so hideous that the exploding heads idea might be a welcome option  .

I wonder who is faster at creating maps, ED or a third party. So far we have seen Syria progress as well as Falklands. I would suspect that if ED is not willing to even discuss that map location-wise, then this free map is really at documentation gathering stage rather than advanced work in progress. I can only imagine what it takes to create a believable representation of any terrain in DCS, and it takes manpower and resources.

I am even tempted to wonder which one will see Early Access first amongst the tree of them (Syria, Falklands, ED Free).

You can't judge based on that, 3rd Parties may very well be talking about their things sooner than ED would be inclined to.

True and valid

Yes, NineLine, that is true, also there are priorities and resources assigned for a given project so I totally get that.

As per the first news we had on the free map, ED should be getting us more information later this year, it might as well be the information that the map is completed and released.

I think, but not 100% sure, that the plan is for the new WWII map to come out before the free map. But I could be mistaken.

Either way, if it's good, I will buy and fly modern jets there.

I believe Third parties have more people working on them because they have less stuff on their plates. Actually Its grate that ED is actually doing maps, I believe they sure have enough with running and upgrading the core engine and its own modules...

I won't be so sure about that, Ugra is actually working on IL-2 Great Battles products too.

Irrelevant since the map division does only that task.

You mean it takes ED map Division over three years to put together a MAP? so far we have Caucasus (ported from LOMAC), The Gulf and I am not entirely sure if Nevada is ED or a third party....in over 10 years of DCS development....

Not at all, it's mostly a brand new map over new technology, if we follow what devs said.

Interesting

Yes, the tools and tech are being created on the fly, map creation is getting faster all the time.

Hi NineLine,

Does it also mean that visual fidelity of the maps can be pushed further as your tools evolve?

Hawaii-Map-8-Major-Islands.jpg

I could be wrong(usually am:)) but I would think The Hawaiian Islands would be easier to do then Nevada or Persian Gulf? The Land mass of the Islands themselves is comparatively small with 80% of the map being Beautiful Ocean for Carrier Ops in 1941 with a F4U or 2019 in a Hornet?:)

I Know :) Wishful Thinking :)

While it wouldn't really fit with a modern theatre of war, I wouldn't mind a Hawaii map. What was that F18 sim called, with a map of Hawaii? Back in the late 90's, early 2000's I think. I actually thought the Flight Model in it was pretty decent. Can't remember if it was a full sim, or just a tech-demo of sort. I don't recall there ever being weapons.........

It's probably not gonna be this...

But can you imagine a 1990-1991 Kuwait? It's not a big country ;)

Dad worked there for a bit after the (first) war at Doha West
