So Heatblur (Tomcat/Viggen) will be completely sitting out of the free trial and not just the 50% off discount?

Bummer, feel like I should have gotten the standalone version from the beginning, but I have hundreds of dollars into the steam version now. Seems like a big hassle to install two versions of the same thing. It’s too bad ED isn’t allowed to sell steam codes to their own products.

Rule of thumb - if you can buy a game directly from its developer do so and do not buy from steam/Epic/other. These platforms (steam in particular) grab a sizable chunk of the sale, instead of going 100% to the people who made the game. Cut out the middleman.

... well, he could have said it!

You can link your steam account onto your ED account, that way you can install the ED version of DCS and still use your Steam purchased dlc.

Would be nice a HeatBlur free-trial-authorization for the Tomcat and for the Viggen as well.

Agreed. Even if it was just a 1 Week trial instead of a month.

Looking forward to trying the F-5 and Mig-21.

I downloaded the Gazelle and the Mi -8 having trouble mapping the collective. I didn't realize how tiny the Gazelle was, or that it uses a simplified flight model.

After starting the DCS World again the collective started working somewhat, after inverting the input it works as it should.

The Gazelle seems to be in permanent Auto Pilot, flipping the Auto Pilot switch on the dash doesn't change anything. Maybe it has to be set before start up or something. IDK Other than that, there's a big delay in collective input, rotor RPM takes about 10 seconds to catch up to the actual input; is this turbine lag?

@BIGNEWY has just posted that the master server is at 100% and i suspect that this and the trial downloads are not entirely unrelated. :)

I started download at midnight, all went well until it got to the last 10% of the download where it started downloading in Kb instead of Mb.

Steam only gets it for two weeks and i believe it doesnt start right away.

Where can we find information on that?

I see there is a free trial period, but as a Steam user, I have no idea how to access any of it. The icons on the home page in the sim offer a chance to "buy" the modules, but I see nothing about the free trial.

Is there a link somewhere?

As I have previously stated few my opinions about ED making EA modules like F-16C already -50% when it was -20% for preorders, that this "free weekend" and now in special time a free month is way to offer it for testing. Yet I still hold my opinion that ED should have sticked to their common sales, where we wouldn't see higher than pre-order cuts before module gets out of early access and has been sometime already in normal price.

In same breath I welcome ED to make more often these free weekends, maybe on the special sales or times when module gets out of beta phase.

And I still hope that ED would make L-39C and Yak-52 front seat free for anyone to offer by those who owns the module, so they can take their friends up in the air for flight lessons and sightseeing. Especially when one can own two computers, one VR set and could put two computers so one can sit in front and enjoy while other computer is used to fly the craft with display and controls. This would open trainers to be used more for promotions by those who already owns them.

and so on help people decide how to enter to DCS World.

My wishes would as well be, that if ED does these free weekend etc in future, that it is announced well in advance so one can recommend friends to download DCS in time so when module gets free unlock, it is already downloaded and installed in advance.

I have been critical of ED in the past for their slow development of products and perpetual EA of some modules. I said I would never buy another module in EA. But...………….in light of this one month free thing which supports their customer base in COVID times, I'm buying not one but two modules. Modules I really am not all that crazy for but I'll support ED. Good job ED.

PS. Keep developing your EA modules please!

Yep. Me too.

Actually got back in to Falcon 4 as I missed the campaign so much.

However.................... I've just taken a spin in a "little gazelle" and loved it! Brought back childhood memories from growing up next to RNAS Culdrose which flew quite a few of those buggers!

Now for the Harrier and Huey!!!

A totally top notch gesture. Going to get sales but yeah, TOP NOTCH.

I got the email saying "EVERYTHING except campaigns" was free for a month.

My squad and I applauded DCS, its a bold and awesome move during this time. The 2 day trial was honestly a joke, it takes some of us that long just to learn the basics and sometimes just starting the ships up.

That said all of us, very excited, only to find out its not "everything", I mean why is heatblur or whoever made the jf17 saying no to this?

Doesn't DCS have the final say?

needless to say, its kinda BS!

In view of last months response, we are pleased to announce our upcoming Free For All event, starting April 19th, where you are welcome to try any and all our products (except campaigns) for free and without limitation for one month
