"We are happy to announce that the Tornado campaign to come with the initial release will be created by none other than Baltic Dragon & Reflected Simulations. They will work together on the project to provide you with the best possible campaign to start your virtual Tornado journey"

This is what AviaStorm, developer of the legendary Tornado, announced on Christmas Eve - and both @Reflected and myself are honoured to be part of the bird's long awaited coming to DCS World by Eagle Dynamics.

@baltic_dragon You might want to post your announcements using non-formatted text. For us "dark theme" forum users it now displays black text over almost-black background, making the post a bit difficult to read ;). Cheers!

Ah!? There is text?

I was thinking "how cool it looks with just the picture and no text!"

Will change my  setup to read it....

Saludos.

Hi, good information.
But, if Reflected and Baltic_Dragon are doing a campaign, that also means the Tornado has to be mastered properly from day one.

How can you start learning the Tornado right now?

🤔🍻

Full-fidelity simulations, 1993 style.

Alternatively, this is a great book to set the scene: Tornado Gr1: An Operational History: Amazon.co.uk: Michael John W. Napier: 9781473873025: Books

There is a 'dash-1' available online, but it is so heavily redacted as to be almost completely useless.

The game will definitely help me. 👍😅

Was it really 30 years ago that we thought this was a sim? Damn!

Too bad about the book, my English is far from sufficient to understand it.

Great to hear this coming, I had some Sim time in the RAF Honington sim, was totally lost for most of it, the pilot spoke at 90 words per minute, but it was great fun.

Didn' t see the Tornado in the 2023 release on UTUBE  an hour or so ago, but still will be wallet ready

I remember watching Tornado's take off from Bahrain Airport when I was there in 90 and 91. I also remember hearing a Viper pilot after hostilities had begun talking about how the Brit's would come fast and low when bombing a runway and pull up in the vertical when coming off target which made them a great target for air defense. The pilot said they were crazy with a capital c.

Ask Jesus for Forgiveness before you takeoff :pilotfly:!

A weired combination of Viggen and F-18. But I'm afraid there is no real way to learn the Tornado right now.

@baltic_dragon @Reflected This is going to be EPIC! :worthy:

The Tornado is being developed by as many people as the Tornado Development Team contains. It progresses rapidly with the speed of the Tornado development progress. It will be released at the Tornado release date.

I'd go so far and say that in general older birds are a better preparation for the Tonka
I also update my statement and say a mix of Viggen and Mirage 2000C is a better prep, system-wise. Still different tough.

The Viggen part is really how you also operate the Tornado.
There are some nice parallels with GMR (ground mapping radar) radar controls, like linear and logarithmic modes, the wave modulation, etc.
The functions are surprisingly equal.
Also the whole idea behind INS updates are similar enough, and of course the concept of operation & mission.

Flying-wise the FCS should be closest to the M2000 I'd say, but never flew one of those IRL myself.
Also keep in mind, aerodynamically they are pretty different.
Maybe @Bremspropeller can evaluate the aerodynamic differences between the M2000 and PA200.
But you will also find a close enough AG-radar and INS (which also likes NAV fixes) in the M2000, that being some sort of prep for the Tonka.

With both, Viggen and M2000 being European concepts, you will later find some things in the Tonka we just do it that way on this side of the pond.
In general these older birds and also F1EE/M prepare you for older tech that is still trying to be sophisticated.
You could try and use the A-4E terrain avoidance radar mode, that is also close to the TOR's TFR scope.

Many many thanks also from myside to @Reflected and @baltic_dragon for your "yes".
Initially I brought the idea to ask you guys for a campaign to @OPEC and thus I am very happy you want to do it!

That's the best book I've ever read about modern combat, I provided comms for his squadron, probably saluted him many times but never met. But a great read
