@Gomez Adams I understand your frustration about the lack of information on the phantom. I am in agreement with you. In the meantime, all we can do is what. The recent screenshot is a bread crumb of information that suggests something will happen in the future.

The Problem is "How far in the Future?" 😉

I would be almost satisfied if we could get a approximately Date....

Something like "definitely this Year" or "somewhere in the next three Months"

Well that's about word for word what Cobra said in September on the Discord.  It's been almost a month since then though so something very well could have changed.

I am not sure NineLine monitors all the forums, but I can taste the excitement.   Less creamer in the coffee gents..

I think the summary is "soon" and closer to "very soon".

I understand the frustration with this more than most DCS modules, given that HB had been hopeful late last year that they would be able to enter EA in Q4, and here we are in Q4 a year later.

However, @Cobra847 might not want to be more specific than he has been for the same reason: the unique factors affecting this release have rendered it impossible to accurately estimate how long anything will take. We may have to settle for 'on or before December 31', and I think we should be prepared in case they can't make that window, because no one knows what this year's winter will bring. As keen as we are to get the product in our hands, I'm sure Heatblur are just as keen to start recouping their expenditure, so I'm sure they'll make it available ASAP, whenever that might be.

I work in a software company where half of devs is from Poland and other half is from Ukraine and delays caused by war are much smaller than what HB states. Obviously our dev department is likely 10 times bigger than HB but still its hard for me to believe they overshot their estimates by 50% (2 years vs 3 years of development), especially if you consider the fact that they dont seem to hire too many ppl from UA (at least according to their LinkedIn).

Add all this to the fact that HB was very bad at keeping their announced release dates even before the war and you have a reason why people are frustrated with them. If they were Razbam, people would be already sharpening their pitchforks.

I judge ED and all 3rd party developers by the Mag3 standard and HB is far superior in all aspects. They communicate better, they are more present on the forums and social media. Still seems to keep their time tables better. So I have very few complaints about HB.

Devs will share information when they are ready to, that is the simple truth of it, appreciate it may not be the way some of you would do it, or want it, but that is the way it is. Someone will always be upset no matter what a dev does.

Heatblur are busy developing, you know its coming, any pre-order has to go through media planning and preparation, it all takes a lot of time, be supportive if you can.

thank you

No big fan of the Tomcat, but I bought it because HB made it so gorgeous. No big fan of the Viggen but I bought it because HB made it so gorgeous. No big fan of the Phantom but I'll probably buy it because... you guessed it, HB is going to make it freakin' gorgeous.

I read somewhere that 100% of their art team was down for a significant period of time

So maybe it's better to leave the pre-order alone and release the module directly. If the release is really imminent they can concentrate better on the final stages of development and nothing changes for us. Not even for them I think, because upon release many will be ready to buy this exciting module, supporting their expenses and their investment.

Having worked in software development, I’ll just say here and now that HB is right to not release a date. DCS modules are very complex, and much like their real world counterparts delays are inevitable. Keep in mind the F-4 Module is not just a standalone product- it’s also tied to HB overhauling and upgrading their entire code base for every existing product. Given that scope it’s foolish to pin hopes on this module coming out at ANY date. It may be ready next week, or next October, or even 2026. When the F-4E is ready I’ll be waiting.

Having audited software development plans, you should stride to do more, and be better, all in less time than you originally asked for, all with a tenth of the budget you asked for, all with a quarter of the staff you asked for. You should also stop complaining.

I'll know it's close when Kirk66 comes back on the board and starts posting again.  He's probably busy doing weapons testing and polishing the seat pad, mum's the word.

When @Cobra847 gave an ETA of this year I believe he was speaking in good faith, and I think he was speaking in good faith last year when he said late in the year that there was still a chance of making it during '22.

However, what this means is that any attempt at prediction is probably meaningless now, he's given us his best guess twice and it hasn't been terribly close to the mark (unless they do unveil this in the next two months). I know it would be nice to see Heatblur comment on this themselves, but I think we can safely say that at present no accurate estimate can be made, so we just have to wait for the first looks at the office to get the hype train rolling.

Here's hoping Cobra comes out, calls me a ph*ckhead and announces the start of presale.
