  • DCS: Afghanistan (total) Area: 1449216 sq km

  • DCS: Southwest High Detail Area: 471381 sq km
    12 Unique highly detailed airfields
  • DCS: East High Detail Area: 320529 sq km
    12 Unique highly detailed airfields
  • DCS: North High Detail Area: 443199 sq km
    8 Unique highly detailed airfields

If i buy each region seperatly, i get 32 (Southwest 12 + East 12 + North 8 ) HD airfields?

If i buy the total map in once, i get only 28 HD airfields?

Or i'm wrong?

IIRC there is some overlap between the different regions, so there are likely airports that included in more than one region, so they'd be double or triple counted in the region counts.  If you buy the full map you'll get everything.

If you buy all the regions separately you get exactly the same product as if you buy the complete map, just at a higher price.

Thank you for explanation.

I'm new to the DCS ecosystem so pardon the noob question. As I understand it at the moment this is in the pre-order phase (you buy it an don't get anything tangible yet) and is not available on Steam. When it enters early access those who pre-ordered get to download/use the map. Is this the point it also becomes available on Steam or does that happen later?

Unrelated but are any new assets going to be released along with the map (there is currently a cow asset, maybe a goat?)

Steam DCS is updated the same day.

Honestly, I've been following this topic since day 1 and I keep finding comments about how over complicated the buying thing is. I bought the whole map when it was announced because it's obviously the cheapest option for those who want the full map in high fidelity.

The thing that I don't get is where exactly does people find the complicated part to understand about it. It looks pretty simple to me and I don't see any reason to blame ED for this behaviour, as it is a common practise in every industry, this has already been said in this thread. As a player, you only need to answer yourself two questions: do you want the full map? do you have spare money to buy it?

If those questions got an affirmative answer, then go for the full map. If you want it full and don't have the money, then you´ve got two options, either buy it piece by piece and finally spend more money or wait and save up like 20 bucks per month (counting since when the map pre purchase was announced) and get the full map.

If you are just interested in a particular area, then wait and get just that area. Tell me, where is the difficult part to understand? And also, who is not able to save 20 bucks each month? I mean, this is not directed to anyone and not intended to be offensive, but if someone is in such a tight economical situation, maybe that person shouldn't be thinking in getting into this hobby at this particular time in his/her life, as this is an expensive hobby. Plus if you are just joining, it would be better to just use the two week trials and the free resources like Caucasus in order to get into the game and then decide wether to invest in this or not.

Lol, I got into DCS for the F-15C, it was 5$ on sale and I had low end PC. I assure you I had no idea what I was into.

I am definitely going to buy the whole map, I was just wondering how the pre-order, early access and Steam all come together because I've never bought a module before. It's that I want it on Steam as opposed to the standalone.

My understanding is that Steam changed their pre-order rules to make it very difficult for developers to do pre-orders, so for the last few years pre-orders haven't been available on steam. Modules usually have a pretty good discount in pre-order and about 5% less of a discount in early access. Early access usually lasts for a few years, until the module is done or close to it.

If you make purchases on Steam and then want to use the standalone version you can create an account on Eagle Dynamics site and then bind your Steam account to your standalone account. Once that happens you can't use the modules on steam anymore but have access to them all on standalone. Some people prefer Steam so they can have all of there games in one place and I think downloads might be a little faster. With standalone you can pre-order modules at a greater discount, try most modules for free for 2 weeks, sales usually last longer and can be more frequent, and Valve doesn't take a cut so more money goes directly to the developer. I'm sure I missed out on some of the arguments for both Steam and standalone but that should give you an idea.

Its a game and is a long long way from simulating a proper simulator, so its even further from having any hope of simulating real life.

Can you define "proper simulator"? I never thought of the "procedural training simulator of the A-10C HOTAS" build to specs for the ANG as a "Game"... really confused, now.

Also, I am sure there are very different "real simulators" in use by the military, for different purposes in training, with very different focus and none of them comes close to "real life", but does its specific task, pretty well.

I Googled "free flight simulator", and here I am eight years later with every module, except for a few of the latest campaigns, and lots, lots of extra peripherals. It's been a fun ride, and it's not even close to be over yet!

On EA release, there is only one default „summer“ season.

Will there be known FOBs/outposts already placed or is that on mission makers to try and make them?

Look at the map from OP - there are already placed some FOBs, ex. Bastion or TB Dwyer:

Has there been a statement of how large the projected map is going to be filesize wise? Kola is a skip on my end because the storage space required is far too rich, and download speeds on my end are not something I can deal with come any updates.

I have growing interest in this map, but if it's slated to be anywhere near or over 80GB, I frankly am going to have to pass, but... I'd like to know an answer, and I haven't seen it anywhere as of yet.

Of course, I realize as it's expanded, I expect the size to increase, this is a given. I just want to know where it will be come initial release date.

Is there an answer @BIGNEWY ?
