My big question is if it's already up for sale, than where are the reviews and videos of the terrain?  Release the hounds already, there's not much to base a decision on.

Cant wait to fly over FOB Salerno and flip it off virtually lol.   I am looking forward to this map I always wondered what it looked like to the Pilots overhead.   Good work on this one so much history there.

Any indication of potential file size anywhere for the complete map once released? It's getting difficult to fit DCS on my 1TB Nvme and I'm not gonna buy a new one for a while.

I'm planning to buy Afghan and CH47F on steam and I'm wondering if steam will have a discount like they did when F4E went on sale 

because it seems like DCS products can't seem to get steam Pre-purchase anymore

Thank you for your purchase consideration, however we are unable to bring the pre-order to steam. Discount will be 20% for Early Access when it goes live, currently planned for the 3rd July.

Is there a visual comparison between the high resolution areas and the lower ones?

@BIGNEWY I searched, but couldn't find the answer.

Are there any differences, besides cosmetic, between airfields in owned and not owned regions?

I mean, if I don't own a region, will I be able to use its airfields just as usual in-game and in ME, or they will have limited functionality?

@NineLine can I suggest you label which map is which.  It's great you kept both for comparison, but it's not obvious which is the new (top one) and which was the original (bottom one) without doing a Google search to find a copy of the old.  I'm sure the real keeners can tell, but I didn't have it memorized

Still really keen to have an idea of file size for the entire map. 
 

Have had to avoid other maps due file size as I just don’t have the space on my SSD and I don’t intend to buy a 2TB one just for DCS. 
 

Would like to preorder the entire map but if it’s going to be much bigger than 150gb it’s gonna be a struggle.

2TB? I bough in May 4TB disc … only for DCS.

Kola, Afghanistan, Iraq, new modules etc will take many Gb fast and soon. Fortunately, drives have become quite cheap (compared 2-3 years ago) now and even 4TB NVMe drives can be purchased at a pretty good price.

A 2TB nvme where I live is nearly $400 local currency. It’s a no go from my end. I’ve got a half full 1tb nvme solely for DCS. Got most modules and Persia, Syria, Nevada, Normandy 2.0 and Marianas as added maps.

On that note tho, if I were to run out of space and end up getting a bigger nvme, what's the easiest way of transferring DCS to it without having to redownload it all? Is it as simple as just dragging the several hundred gigs over to the new one?

@drPhibes is correct. You need to update your shortcuts (and the registry, if you have some 3rd party apps that use it), and do a full repair for good measure. To be honest, you should get Skatezilla's excellent GUI Updater/Launcher app, and use that one to start, update and repair DCS. And you can forget about the shortcuts.
I believe @Rudel_chw as an extensive writeup regarding moving DCS.

If I only own 1 part, will I still see and be able to use airfields on parts I do not own? (ADDED)
Yes! Once the entire map is complete and if you only own 1 section, you will see the entire map, and the airfields in those unpurchased sections will be there and usable in the sim, including the ME. You will still see trees and buildings in these areas as well but in low-detail LODs.

At the bottom of the 1st post I have marked new and old maps, hope that helps.

Does the new map mean the high detailed areas are being extended or is it just simplifying the map to avoid confusion of what each part includes?
