Todays patch is coming in at 33 gigabytes for me for updating my dedicated server, seems rather large, game install was much smaller though

Until August 20th with the terrible stutering. And without any promise that they will fix it, with each patch it gets worse

Thanks for reporting. Considering that this is a crash fix for issues I'm not currently experiencing, I'll postpone the update until the next patch.

Maybe ask to Nvidia/AMD/M$ if their updates caused performance issues? Here with W10pro 19045.3086 and NV 551.86 I've not had any performance decrease, stutters or CTD's since last year.

Hi, you're lucky, because most users are having problems.

And even the DCS team is working on it. Greetings

Im sypathetic to the users that are experiencing issues, but using the word "most" is not fair. Those threads consist of a handful of total dcs players. All the players i know, including myself have been playing for years and have not experienced any of these performance issues.

I believe if "most" were having these described issues, this forum would meltdown.  Just look at the outcry when part of the Sinai map was deleted, and rightfully so. The thread has been since deleted, but the replies were enormous. No doubt a number of people are having issues and ED is not perfect, but making a generalization like that is a bit careless imo.

DCS preformance (especially in VR) goes up and down all the time. So it's kinda rutine. Quite different from a portion of map just deleted with no warning.

My preformance has also taken a dive the last few patches. But it's just what it is.

To be transparent, i play in 2D with no mods minus reshade, so those are definitely variables that can result in a different experience. I can definitely understand the frustrations the vr guys feel. Seems that group spends more time tweaking settings then playing.

Hi, high end machines tend to cope better even when there is an fps issue, so some are lucky and have not seen the performance hit that others have.

We are currently investigating a few leads regarding the FPS hit and are working on optimisation in parallel, hopefully we will make improvements for the next patch, it is a high priority task currently.

Well it seems that DCS is working on the performance problem.

In my experience, part of the performance problem is from the absurdly huge 4k textures on some modules eating up more VRAM than they should. Reducing them to 2k via paint.net and repacking them into DCS has solved some of my issues, but not all of them.

I totally agree with that.
In multiplayer games, we are mainly confronted with performance losses when our machines (90% helos) start from the same base.
The liveries of some aircraft are far too heavy (CH-47, etc.).
Massun's static objects, which have been added recently, are practically unusable because they affect the game's fluidity so much.
We don't use them anymore...which is a shame, because they finally gave us what we needed to have a more realistic airport environment in DCS.

Oh absolutely: since we got the MT client, VRAM demands have gone through the roof. It’s not just the texture size of some modules: while that’s clearly part of it, DCS handles textures differently these days.

Hopefully Vulkan will offer improvements in that regard…

In VR, the CH-47F cockpit textures sometimes take a full minute to load. No joke. You'll drop into the plane, sit there before clicking "fly", and watch while the textures crawl in. It is crazy. How someone equates that to a portion of the Sinai map being deleted is a mystery to me.

Just to put it into a different context, I'm a long-time, avid user, and I had no idea there was a Sinai "outcry" over the deletion, but was well-aware of the outcry over the performance issues. Hey, to each their own.
