Micr0 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Just a question to know whether to expect any Supercarrier updates. Seems as though the devs have moved on from updates on the boat. 3
Silver_Dragon Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Last update was the flight directors (December 2024) and the Air Boss (July 2024) , but missing the barrier, Briefing room and others. That take time and resources to develop complex features, to release on future updates. Micr0 Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 I worded my question poorly. First, I find the carrier to be a blast. I spend 99% of my time flying around the boat reliving my glory days. It's great. In the past, the devs have made announcements with regard to the things that are being worked on. I haven't seen any such announcements so I was just wondering if they are considering the carrier "done". I was hoping a few things would be modified, such as being able to interact with the Air Boss station in VR, and controllable lighting. 2
Nealius Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) Lots of issues still remain unfixed as well, and recently the IFLOLS calibration was broken. Two Hornets cannot be connected to Cats 1 and 2 simultanously, significantly slowing down launch operations. Deck crew have stopped moving with urgency and slowly walk, significantly slowing down launch operations. AI launching on the bow cats get stuck on the cat if other aircraft come in for recovery, breaking cyclic ops. IFLOLS is consistently about two balls lower than actual glideslope. Others are having issues where the IFLOLS isn't usable at all due to excessive light bloom. Edited May 4 by Nealius 3 1

Just to clarify: is the Hornets on Cat 1 and 2 a "new deck crew" thing, because we took off tonight with "old" deck crew and no problems with it. And you've been around long enough to know that without a track file this isn't going to get looked at anyway.
Nealius Posted May 4 Posted May 4 It was with the taxi directors, yes. And I've been here long enough to know that even if we do provide track files things won't get looked at, usually because they're "too long" or involve "scripts" which somehow invalidates the whole bug report. But then when you provide a no-script short track it sits with 0 downloads for months, completely ignored. 2
Dragon1-1 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Even taxi directors are far from finished. Leaving aside the obviously placeholder (and annoying) magic teleport, they're very limited. 5
ruxtmp Posted May 15 Posted May 15 This module has been slow in updates since roll out, Im sure everyone that was going to buy it has and sales are not supporting quicker development. I was excited about the taxi directors and patiently waited but overall I am disappointed in the final result mostly due to the need to have unrealistic static object setups on the deck for the taxi to work or look ok. I wish there was something like the old MSFS tool AFCAD that allowed users to create the taxi path of ai aircraft, with the tool you could have realistic airport gates and taxi routes versus the sims default simple airport implementation. 1
sLYFa Posted May 16 Posted May 16 There is no tool but the taxi routes are very much editable by modifying the RunwaysandRoutes.lua in the core mods/tech/USS Nimitz/scripts folder. It's a painful hit and miss process though but you can get some decent routes. Breaks IC though and can cause all kinds of issues with AI if they are not carefully sequenced for launch. i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
ruxtmp Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Thanks that is good to know but considering how much effort it takes just to create a mission so the AI do something useful as you would want them to I dont think I will try to customize the lua especially since it is hit or miss. Maybe A modder will create a tool that will make it easier.

markturner1960 Posted May 28 Posted May 28 The most frustrating thing is that any threads like this get simply ignored by ED, so all we have is speculation. A practice that is repeated across the board. Compare this with say the detailed and immediate feedback you get from independent devs like Heatblur…….. 1 System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.

It doesn't take Vulkan to make taxi directors wait for a salute before turning the plane around, doesn't it? That alone would greatly improve the singleplayer user experience with taxi directors. 2
draconus Posted May 28 Posted May 28 I thought waiting for Vulkan myth was already debunked as this was about MT instead. 2 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

No I think the next big feature requires some Vulkan work, but as I said I have to confirm. Fixes and changes to the current stuff should still be on going. I heard the next update will finally feature the EA-6 Prowler as AI unit to populate carrier decks.
Raisuli Posted May 29 Posted May 29 The deck crew used to have a little motivation, even without Vulcan. Makes me feel a lot less bad about throttling up on turns, though. Blow a few over the side and maybe the rest of them will start to move a little quicker. 1
Hotdognz Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Its interesting how Vulcan slows this stuff down as its a graphics API, hasn't Vulcan been in the works for 6 years by ED ??, curios when it was first mentioned it was being added.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted May 29 ED Team Posted May 29 The work does not require vulkan, Multithreading was the main requirement. The work is just complex and takes time, we are bringing completely new features to DCS with the supercarrier and that has some challenges. 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Hotdognz Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Oh I thought in a previous post by ED some years back said that items for the SC required Vulkan to be implemented, I must have been mistaken. I understand its complicated, looking forward to the next SC features some stage in the future, the deck crew add quite a bit of immersion to it when they work ok.
