Anyone working on the F-16?

Looking through the announced 3rd party modules, one thing struck me: There are no F-16!

I just recently started modern flight sims but I've always had a love affair with the F-16 and i would absolutely love to have it in DCS.

Did any of the 3rd party devs or ED them selves say anything about it being in their plans, eventually?

^ The problem seems to be finding an original Falcon 4.0 copy.

I think there are better places to pursue this line of discussion. ;)

ED did work on an F-16 module some years ago ( http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=503375&postcount=343 ), I don't know what happened to that.

Currently confirmed to be on the horizon from ED (at study sim level) are F-15C, F/A-18C and Su-27SM (FW-190 D9 could be mentioned in this context too, I guess).

That said, there has been mention (can't remember where and in what context) that there are certain aircraft that are reserved for possible future development, as in 3rd party developers won't get contracts for those because ED want the option of developing them inhouse. In that light, the lack of third party projects for some aircraft like MiG-29 and especially F-16 is quite interesting!

I wouldn't hold my breath for it, though. Firstly this is just (hopeful) speculation, secondly between work on the announced high fidelity models, supporting and updating the current roster, working with 3rd party devs, making a new graphics engine and accompanying new map and releasing a SDK for 3rd party maps I would say ED have their work cut out for them for the next 5 years or more smile.gif

From the newsletter it seems that the f-15C is going to probably be the next DCS Aircraft, which interestingly is the aircraft that came last in the Wishlist vote.

I didn't get that it would specifically be the next. I am pre-dating the news letter, but it was stated the next DCS Aircraft would be a multi-role aircraft. F-18C is my vote.

What specifically makes you think F-15C is the NEXT DCS aircraft?

I don't believe it would be. Next to nothing is known about how those radars operate, what modes they use, and how all of this is represented to the pilot.

Weird?? In Next DCS (East) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List, they proposed some cold war aircraft such as the MiG-23 and MiG-25. However, non of the cold war aircrafts are proposed here.

So just a thought, I don't even anyone feels the same way, but does anyone also thinks that it would be nice to have a flight sim that allow us to have MiG-19, MiG-21, MiG-23 and MiG-25 VS F-4, F-5 and F-8?? Because in that age, skill weight much more than missiles. We could do a lots of high G maneuvers and dog fights with both missile and radar.

I guess it is because this list (western) was created before the Mig-21bis from Bezcl was announced.

I agree, it would be nice to have an F4-Phantom, F-5 or a SEPECAT Jaguar or maybe a Tornado (*hint*) to go against the Mig-21. I know it (Mig-21bis) is still in use, but an upgraded F-15, F-18 or even the Typhoon will be a more than serious threat and thus unbalance the scenarios I fear.

Missiles require a lot of skill as well. The fundamentals of combat with missiles are the same as funs only, but you now have additional considerations.

Not really, modern planes do more high G maneuvers than older planes usually, owing to greater thrust-to-weight rations, stronger airframes and better g-warning systems :)

Come one mate, you know what I mean :smilewink:

Those fighters I listed are the ones got into a lot of classic old fashion turn and burn dog fights (except for MiG-25), with missiles I may add.:)

I have been play some of the "Wings Over Europe", it is fun. Except their sim is so bad and so unrealistic. Since the DCS started to open its door for WW2 planes and Cold War planes, I thought maybe good to put the idea here for the ED to consider.:smartass: If they do, WOE serious probably will lose all of their customers. lol

I agree. The most interesting fights are up close and personal. It came down to getting the most out of mismatched imperfect machines and high piloting skills were required. Those airplanes didn't fly themselves, despite the fact that the jet engine eliminated certain challenges formerly present. Even Korean War era jets like the MiG15 and F86 would be very interesting if they were modeled realistically, although I don't know how to simulate the advantages of an airplane with hydraulic flight controls versus one that didn't have them without force feedback.

That said, I want the F15C and Su27 as much as I do the F86 and Mig15. Just give us everything ;)

Mig 19, Mig 21, Mig 23: Ehm are you serious. ED can you explain to me why you are implementing older planes instead of the modern ones? We have to look to the future, not the past.

First (my opinion): it would be really neat to fly a Apache Longbow or Super Cobra or Rafale or Eurofighter, but definetly not a Mig 19.

Second: You've already released some really cool modern fighters, and now you are focussing on older planes, this will NEVER combine in DCS world. Put the focus on modern OR older planes, buth not both of them.

Third: If you are reading other forums, a lot of people are questioning which way ED is going right now. Some even say ED has completely lost track.

Now ED is making fine planes, but I'm starting to believe you can achieve more fans with modern planes.

and even more whit modern AND old planes.

Keep in mind its not just older planes ED is modeling, in fact they are not.

3rd parties are like Beczl.

And most planes in the pipeline can be considered modern.

SU-27SM, F-15E being two excellent examples.

So really, what's the problem that a 3rd party developer is making an 3 or older gen aircraft because they like the aircraft or think the can make money out of it?

What harm will it do us? If you don't like it simply don't put em in your missions, its that easy really.

First : agreed :)

Second : No, older planes can fit in the game.

Third : Who cares?
